Will a false awakening boost your chances of having a lucid dream?

I have thought that I would like a discussion about. A reason that I think that I personally cannot initiate a lucid dream by recognizing it is because when I go to sleep I basically zone out. So nothing matters. My dream recall is bad anyway so that doesn't help. My mind doesn't want to do anything because I'm trying to sleep; is what it feels like. What I'm basically saying is that after I go to sleep the first time I actually take not of what's going on is when I get up, in my room. This makes sense to me because when I get up that is when I do a reality check etc. It's difficult to explain but I'm thinking that if I can somehow trigger a false awakening or make it more likely to happen, I am much more likely to realize if something's up (If I do encounter a false awakening). It is like the ultimate reality check (for me personally).

How would I go about making a false awakening more likely? Is it the same chances and situation as a DILD? Or is there something more?

I remember I had False Awakenings a lot a couple years ago, and I believe what I did in order to trigger them was that I always tried to turn on my bed lamp every time I woke up, as a reality check.
This became such a habit that I eventually started dreaming about doing it, and whenever it didn't work or felt weird I would become very cautious, and almost instantly realize that I was actually dreaming.

So I would say that False Awakenings will probably become more likely if you make it a routine to do some kind of check every single time you wake up.
      It's worth a try.

You could try http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...eam-ssild.html. This technique is known to give people many false awakenings so that may be something you could do. <:

Most induction techniques that require you to be awake, such as WILD, will give you false awakenings.

As mentioned by Laurelindo, you should do a RC every time you get out of bed - it'll help put the right mindset to catch a FA.

AstralMango also hit a good point - SSILD tends to cause a lot of FAs. Just remember to do a RC after getting out of bed, and you'll catch them.

I would like to add another perspective here.

False awakenings are very common for me. I never do reality checks when I wake up, but I still tend to become lucid during false awakenings. I do not know why this is, but my awareness seems to be increased when I think that I am waking up and getting out of bed. I tend to notice weird dream things that don't make sense during a FA; my mind is more rational for some reason. That's what makes me, personally, lucid during false awakenings, not RCs ^^

But I agree that RCs when you wake up are a really good idea.

I don't think there is a need to trigger FAs. Besides, FAs are normal non-lucid dreams. I'm not sure if they can be triggered.

If you don't have awareness, and you don't practice RCs and mantras, then even if you had FA, you would most likely not notice it. You would just take it as a normal dream.

What can help you noticing them is RCing every time you get up from your bed. For whatever reason. Then, when in a dream, and you are getting up from your bed, yu will RC by habit and realize you are dreaming.

And ofc, daytime awareness, RCs and mantras will work the same for other non-lucid dreams as well. Happy dreams

I actually had a typical False Awakening this morning, where I did not realize it was a dream.
I have vivid memories of getting some breakfast and fumbling around with some mysterious bottles on the table, only to suddenly lie in bed again.
And I know I didn't get up for real, because I always remember when I do no matter how tired I am and there were several objects that I didn't recognize in the dream.

Usually I always realize when I have False Awakenings, but they tend to start out with me in bed moving in slow-motion.

Sometimes FAs make me lucid, but other times I may have literally hundreds of FAs without ever suspecting it is a FA... every single time I wake up in another dream, I assume that it's WL and go about my business... only to be pissed off when I find out it was just another FA. When this happens, it's almost as if I'm being willfully thick. I ask myself, once awake, "Why the hell, in the hundreds of FAs, didn't I do a RC???"
