Testing FILD and SSILD for 30 days

My goal here is to test the FILD and SSILD induction techniques for 30 days and see how many lucids they lead to. Normally I would just do this alone, but a BIG problem for me is awaking during the night for trying a technique, then being too lazy and falling back asleep. So, I am starting this thread to make myself accountable. Also, to hopefully spread the word about FILD and SSILD and show how successful (or not) they are for me.

Please, others join me and comment here also!

My exact technique will vary from night to night, but to start off I will SSILD before sleeping at all, then awaken about 4.5 hours in for FILD. If it doesn't work, then I will DJ, SSILD, then sleep again. I will then repeat this at the 6 hour mark, then DJ again upon waking up for the day.

I will also notate my sleep debt as it was before that night, as this effects REM rebound, etc.

      So, here we go!

I think SSILD will be the most effective of the two.

Lol, last night I was too lazy and didn't do the techniques except for SSILD at the beginning of the night.

They say SSILD at the beginning of the night is a waste of time, but I find it increases recall/awareness in the first few hours of sleep.

I still got lucid anyway after I slept in past 8 hours though, so that's cool.

Oh well, tonight will be the night. It takes so little time to do, I have no excuse not to do it instead of just falling back asleep.

I belive SSILD Method up to certain degree is similar to WILD
That's why they people say it's waste of time to try at start of the night
Probably best time for SSILD would be wbtb with waking up during active rem cycle

      Like this:
      - Sleep For 7 Hours
      - You Wake Up In Middle Of Rem Cycle
      - You Apply SSILD

After few hours of sleeping your rem cycles are longer
It might be the case that effect of SSILD Practice slowly faints as your mind stays in dreamless nrem sleep
So getting to the REM Dream should be most important i belive

You know, I might try and do some SSILD each time when I go to bed maybe it helps with DR and or lucid frequency.

Been a couple years since I've attempted to LD, but when I used to the FILD technique was always my most successful technique as a beginner. As somebody who also struggled to wake up in the middle of the night to do wbtb, I would wake up unintentionally sometimes, and just try to FILD because it was simple and easy, and I had some decent success with it.

Doing SSILD before bed may be more helpful than it seems. Of course in the first few hours of sleep, you're probably not going to get a lucid dream. However, the SSILD cycles will still raise your awareness for those first few hours. Now, each time you wake up during the night (whether naturally or with the help of an alarm), do more SSILD cycles. Do SSILD cycles during each awakening to keep raising your awareness throughout the night.

      Example:

11:00PM - SSILD cycles, go to sleep
3:00AM - Wake up, go to the bathroom, drink water, SSILD cycles
4:30AM - Wake up, maybe go to the bathroom again, drink water, SSILD cycles
      6:00AM - Same

Right before you go to bed each time, you're raising your awareness so when you return to bed at 4:30 and 6:00, there will be a high chance of getting a DILD due to all the awareness training during the night.

Fild works, but it's so hard not to fall asleep in those 30 seconds...

I'm trying SSILD, but I am having problems focusing. When I do first part of cycle (visuals), my mind starts to wander and I don't even make it to the middle of FIRST cycle and I already lose focus.

I tried ssild... Now im up since 6:00 with insomnia. I think it work better with ten second cycles, maybe more for vision.

I never thought of doing SSILD repeatedly. Maybe that's why, despite huge success for a week and then nothing for 6 months doing SSILD occurred, but it does raise my awareness during dreams greatly.

I'm a very kinesthetic person, so I cannot focus on anything with also using my body in some form. So maybe FILD will be more helpful for those of us who cannot focus out intention and imagination for extended periods of time.

I'll do these two techniques with you and post results. Hopefully that'll help too.

Count me in. My plan is to do ssild with fild because ssild will help me fall asleep in 30 seconds. I came close to a Fild once, but ended up failing. I did have 2 successes with ssild, so this should be interesting.

Yeh I'll chip into this since I got the whole SSILD thing and I want to expand my experience with other techniques.
I'll try SSILD and FILD tonight

Pretty sure I nearly got lucid in a dream... Just didn't quite get there. Tried FILD with SSILD but wasn't too sure on what I was doing with the FILD, just felt uncomfortable. Should I do them simultaneously?

      Day 2

Unsuccessful, and I had terrible dream recall.
I tried doing SSILD and FILD simultaneously, intending to finish the SSILD cycles and maintain the FILD thing during and after.
I agree with LDleader, it might be because of my inability to fall asleep fast though, I think WILD-type techniques are a loss on me because of this. I'll stick with it to the end though, I want to see if I can do it

Sorry goldy101, I tend to have the opposite happen to me
But from the past 15 days or so from trying SSILD, I learned that if you want to wake yourself up a bit to do the technique, then do the following things:
-Get up and walk about, go toilet or get a drink or water, maybe wash your face.
-Do this for about 10 minutes and then go back to bed
-Try not to turn any lights on

Once you've woken up a bit more, you can start attempting FILD/SSILD or something else again.

That's about all I can think of atm, hope this helps
