      Noise Negates WILD Right?

I couldn't find any threads on this:
Is it possible to do WILD with loud noises in the background? I woke up one morning and feeling like I could do a WILD, I tried to settle myself but I just never reached the point where I enter a dream. I tried many methods, such as pretending I am falling from the sky (this one brought me the closest), but it was like there was something constantly pulling me back to reality. I believe this was the fact that someone was mowing their lawn nearby and it is a very obnoxious noise. Do I need a generally noise-free environment to WILD?

      In a word: yup.

Noise, especially obnoxious noise like lawnmowers, is an enemy of sleep (as is light), so it is best to attempt a WILD in a quiet place where invasive noises can't disrupt your sleep, or your focus.

Not all noise is bad, though. My house sits near a main road and I regularly face lots of lots of disruptive noises. But I've found that I can negate it with white noise. A fan usually does the trick, but I have a white noise machine for those especially noisy mornings. So if you cannot avoid the noise outside, consider setting up some sot of white noise to counter it.

I hear noise-cancelling headphones are really good but they are way too expensive, or at least the ones I have heard of.

^^ They are... plus they must be on your head during the WILD, which might be as annoying as the noise they're cancelling.

Mine is a freestanding machine that I bought at Brookstone fittingly called "Tranquil Moments;" I think they still sell it. Sadly, it's not cheap either, but well worth the investment. If funds are scarce, you could try a little experimentation with things around the house, like a fan or a radio tuned to static, until you find just the thing that makes a steady noise that peacefully drowns out the invasive noises you do not want to hear.

Whenever I can't sleep because of annoying noises, I put my earphones in and listen to white noise on my phone. There are many free white noise mp3s you can download. Try it if you want, does wonders for me, not only does it block unwanted noise but white noise itself is very soothing, especially on med-low volume. Oh, and sleep masks are a must for bright sunny WILD mornings, helps a ton.
