      Dreaming of your Induction

I am trying to figure out if I keep dreaming that I am performing my induction techniques.

So let me explain... I lay down and perform WILD, FILD, or whatever technique to maintain consciousness as I fall asleep. I typically find myself in a state of awareness where I feel vibrations but I have lost sense of where I am so to speak. Often I will feel vibrations and can somehow see although my eyes are closed but I am in a totally different room. I even had chained lucids this morning but could swear each time one ended and another began I would get vibrations although I was in a different room each time. Not sure how I knew it was a different room. Hard to explain with the exception of cases where I could see the room.

When I get to the phase where I start to visualize dream images (before I step into the dream) it's like I am in a vacuum and I am not that aware of my room at all so not sure if I have maintained consciousness seamlessly or if I am dreaming that I am doing the induction. Has anyone experienced this?

On a positive note, I read a chaining technique where each time a dream ends tell yourself "I am still lucid. A new dream will form soon". It worked extremely well last night. Each time vibrations would start and then a new dream would appear.

That's a really interesting idea! I wonder about that myself. Maybe when I think I'm forming a dream sometimes, I might already be in a dream. I've definitely experienced doing WILD within a dream and the dream formation was basically the same. Is that what you're saying? I'm not sure if I misunderstood you.

That chaining technique advice sounds awesome, I'll try it tonight. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, you are correct. I think I might already be dreaming when I am doing the induction. Let me know how the dream chaining works for you!

Ok so you are saying that you think you are actually slipping into dream during induction and not even realizing it? That is definitely possible, and has happened to me. I kept repeating my mantra until I realized I definitely didn't start them in a park with a large fountain in front of me... took me a while to realize too! Just make sure to take better stock of your sensations and it shouldn't happen often. If you do find yourself doing it a lot however, it is an excellent position to be in to slide comfortably into a lucid. Perhaps work into you mantra something like"...[mantra]... Now am I dreaming?... [mantra]... Now am I dreaming? [Mantra..." etc. This way you will actually pause for a bit to naturally take stock of your current situation.

I am not sure that I am spawning them from a WILD per se. I think I am just so intently focused on my WILD practice that I am just having ordinary dreams about doing a WILD that occur at various times through my REM periods (i.e.: not necessarily spawned from an awake state). It's happened to me several times and I start to get confused about what was a WILD and what was a dream of doing a WILD. The end result (a lucid dream) is still the same, but it makes it hard for me to gauge my progress and take note of what is working for me and what isn't. I am still refining my anchor. I have tried counting, mantras, FLID, and a number of other things and nothing has been super consistent for me. I think it is more a matter of practice and tweaking my WBTB process more so than the anchor i am choosing. I will give your mantra a try and see how it pans out.

I often wonder if the specific mantra matters. I tend to think it does as Stephen Laberge seemed to think so (he said the when and what are important) and having a background in hypnosis it definitely matters. Which brings me to wonder the line between post hypnotic suggestion and simply invoking your prospective memory in regards to using a mantra... You will naturally be in a hypnotic state when lingering between sleep and awake and it seems as an ideal time for hypnotic suggestions in my opinion.
