Odd finding?? Everyone using Awoken app, please chime in :)

I was searching the dream journals recorded in my copy of the Awoken app for any occurrence of the word "eyes" and noticed something peculiar that may have something to do with helping to attain lucidity. 76% of the of the entries that contained the word "eyes" were also nights in which I became lucid at some point during the night. This is compared to lucidity occurring one or more times in about 37% of all of my entries recorded in the app.

Why would the occurrence of the word "eyes" in a DJ entry seemingly double the likelihood that I am lucid during the same sleeping period in which I mentioned "eyes" in a lucid or non-lucid dream journal entry?

I know this sounds out there, but there may be a more straightforward scientific explanation. One that comes to mind is that when you check the box in the app saying that you became lucid during that date it puts an eye icon next to the DJ entry, perhaps helping to create some kind of correlation trigger in your subconscious between noticing eyes and becoming lucid (even if in a different dream scene). Another explanation could be something to do with noticing eyes in dreams being more likely to occur when your awareness is higher, though the eyes are most often mentioned in the text of a non lucid dream journal entry during the same sleep period in which I became lucid in a later dream. That seems to be the most commonly occurring example for me.

*Can anyone else who regularly uses the app please check their "Oneironaut Achievements" for number of LD's versus number of journal entries (both on same achievements page) and also search for "eyes" at the top of the DJ entries list and report back either the numbers or the percentages? (whichever you prefer)

I first decided to search for "eyes" in my DJ entries after I read lucid dreaming author Daniel Love's post here on DV referencing something he noticed about eyes in this post: #9

If you haven't heard yet, he also has a Lucid Dreaming Kickstarter campaign: http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...de-cosmos.html

This is funny, I have had mixed experience with eyes.

When I first started LDing, I was quite afraid of it. Didn't like the idea a of anything could happen. I did a bunch of research on it before trying, but with most of my friends and family thinking it was evil, it was hard to shake the worried feeling. Certain things in a dream seemed like the creamier thing ever. Mirrors, looking into the eyes of the dcs, being alone, etc. Afraid to be with dcs and afraid to be away from them. Lol.

So... moving onward to the first LD that I got by effort, 45 days after deciding to try it.

I am riding on a train (inception ) My wife is bringing me to her grandad. He is a bulky (not fat, just sturdy) old man, and he is reluctantly saying that he will help me become a pastor. Funny enough, this was right before I decided to become a missionary. I was sitting with him and talking and I don't remember what we talked about. There was one main thing I remember, his grey - green eyes. Not only was this an interesting color, but it is also the color of my son's eyes, who I had not yet met. After getting off the train I walked with my wife and talked for a bit about the future. Everything went black, and then I ended up in a movie theater, watching batman (dark knight was big at this point) during the movie I became lucid)

^Yeah, I've had some interesting eye experiences too. I love the bright shiny eyes I see sometimes but it can be a little unsettling at other times to see black eyes or weird eyes. I like to kiss with my eyes open in dreams and sometimes get some weird eye reactions but tend to shift my gaze elsewhere or will them back to normal.

      Hello Sensei,
I was curious about why your family thinks LDing is evil? Have you researched the scriptures for passages that mention dreaming and dangers? What have you found that put your own fears to rest? Thank you in advance. Much Love.

      @Fogelbise
That makes sense on a lot of levels that you would keep your eyes open.

Paraphrasing, I would say that it gets lumped together with sorcery and mediums, just like it does here at times. I studied it for 3 months before starting to LD, looking to see what all of the people were saying. Most were just like "Bible says not to do sorcery!" which is kind of just... dumb when you look at what the author was saying to the recipient. I am actually a missionary, so I wasn't really worried too much if my parents were against it, but more of if the Bible was against it. After researching, it just doesn't come up, and the only logical conclusion in my mind is that LDing is just a dream that you realize that you are dreaming, so if lucid dreams are evil, then so are dreams, and there are tons of dreams mentioned in the Bible (some even that the person seems to know that they are dreaming) always in either a good or neutral way. I have a lot more to say on the matter, but I am gonna just end it here, since that is probably the "best argument" for it.

After deciding that I wasn't against it, it was more of a matter of convincing myself that nothing was there to fear. I don't really fear much anyways, and I just went through my ways to fight fear, the one that worked the most was to focus on what you are doing and not worry about the future that you are preparing for, and then when the scary part happens, focus on the past or even further future. This takes a little mind power, but helps a lot. I can usually use logic or averting my mind to almost erase fear.
Of course, since then, I can use LDing to fight fear, and so I have gotten much quicker and more concise about stopping fear in waking and in dreams.

I just downloaded and began using the Awoken app last week. Friday night I had my first ever LD. So the totem sound system they use definitely worked for me at least once. It's been 3 days now with no lucid dreams. But I am still hopeful for more. It's too soon for me to notice an "eye" theme. But we will see.

P.S. How old does a thread have to be before it is considered necro-posting to add a reply?

I think 2 years. If the OP is active and most participants then that is also fine to post.

I recommend checking out this thread:

since you are new to LDing.

Congratulations GoCatDave! Here's to many more LD's (which will probably be from a variety of induction methods). WBTB is a huge help.

@Sensei, I read back through your initial post here and noticed that back then I didn't respond directly to your eyes dream somehow - I must have been rushing. That sounded really interesting, especially your wife's grandfather/your son's eyes!..Is that the case IWL?

I actually didn't ever check until today. I just asked my wife about her grandfathers. Both passed before I met her and I have never seen a picture. I just asked her to describe her granfathers and she said that one is short with brown eyes and the other is about my height and more solid, with eyes grey/green eyes like our son (her words, not mine). So pretty crazy coincidence if that is what it is!
