Question Any Tips For Getting into the Habit of Lucid Dream-Related Actions?

So, I've been trying to lucid dream for a solid month now. I sort of succeeded once, but I still have crappy dream recall. This may be because, even though I am absolutely motivated to become a consistent lucid dreamer, I still haven't gotten to the point where reality checks, self awareness, and dream journaling are habitual. Especially for reality checks and self awareness, I would like some help turning these things into habits, so that they are more natural, and therefore more likely to happen in my dreams.
That certainly is a nice red button you have there.

      Okay...

      Reality checks:
Practice, practice and practice. Aim to do them once every 2 hours, ( a digital watch?). When you do, pretend that it is a dream, and that it works. This will make the reality check more likely to work when you are dreaming.

      Self awareness:
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but this article may help you http://www.world-of-lucid-dreaming.c...awareness.html

      Dream journal:
Put it somewhere close to you, such as on a bedside table. If you have a smart-phone, you can get it to alert you saying "DREAM JOURNAL NOW".

Most of all, believe you can do it.

Something that has helped me tremendously with my dream recall is a consistent and healthy sleep schedule. A good sleep schedule, meaning falling asleep and waking up at the same times as well as getting an adequate amount of sleep, will help get your REM cycle into sync and thus help you with dream recall and frequency.

An added benefit, however, is that such a task is quite the undertaking and will require a lot of work on your part. You'll have to plan and schedule your day in advance so as to get to sleep at your designated time, and also exert a considerable amount of willpower in order to fall asleep at an early time. By devoting so much energy to trying to get your sleep schedule consistent and healthy, you'll be inadvertently thinking and focusing about dreaming and lucid dreaming almost all day.

I've had a lot of success with this simply because my motives are to achieve higher rates of LD's. If you strive with the same intentions, you'll not only be getting an added health benefit, but a whole lot more focus towards lucid dreaming. Hope this helps

The more consistent you are are... the more consistent you are.

Other than that. Here is a thread about what new people should be looking out for.

      Meditation.

Practical Reasons: Because you relax the body and mind and step out of your auto-pilot mode and become conscious of your surrounding (Lucid in real life).

Scientific Reasons: Because you train the prefrontal cortex, the part of of your brain that governs well-being, self-reflection and self-awareness.

Spiritual Reasons: You gradually free your trapped consciousness from the mental chatter of the ego.

Theory: The problem is not that you haven't looked at your hands to realize that you are lucid. The problem is that you aren't aware enough to reflect over what's happening or to be able to think critically. If you saw a pink unicorn hold a speech now you would think "Oh that's not something you see everyday this is probably a dream.". It's the same with dream recall, the problem is not that you have a bad memory, the problem is that you aren't very aware while it is happening. For instance, we all claim to be very aware of our physical life, well try to remember what you ate for dinner 2 days ago. If you have been fully in that moment you probably have a higher chance of remembering compared to if you were thinking other things while eating it, it's the same for dreams.

So the very foundation is awareness itself.

Meditation is a non-action practice that slowly teaches you what it truly means to be aware, because it can't be understood by the thinking mind, it can only be understood in stillness and silence.

This will change your lucidity process completely, because by building the brain like a muscle you no longer have to do anything to become lucid.

      You ARE lucid.
Another way to learn how to live a self-aware life is to go and live with cats, they know how it's done.

      Peace!
