      Been doing reality checks...

...but so far have had no success. I have noticed an increase in the number of RCs I've been doing though. It's sooo frustrating.

Last night, one of my DCs told me that the word 'Tundra' meant a 'totally female point of view', hehe. I should have realised I was dreaming, yes? Noooo. I pulled out a map of the world and showed him what the Tundra really is. Doh.

Hey, do you think the DC was testing me???

Loads of people report the same thing (RCs not working). It could be of course that you just haven't done enough yet to make it a habit that carries over to sleep. But it may never do. For example - I never eat in my dreams, or go to the toilet, or brush my teeth, or put on clothes, put on my glasses, turn on the telly, etc, etc,.

I have done RCs plenty of times to check my suspicions that I'm dreaming - but only after something else has made me realise the unreality of the dreamscene - many other people say the same. If it weren't for others swearing by the method I would say it was a myth/ red herring.

I have a theory that if RCs do work they probably work better (like many things) if they are tailored to your learning / perceiving mode. (see the first link in my sig) E.g. if you are primarily visual then counting your fingers, looking at a clock, or trying to read might be better than trying to breath through your nose (which would suit kinesthetic poeple better).

RE your DC testing you - hmm... they do do that! Last night I was dreaming of being chased by a giant around a museum - I was flying to escape and wasn't in danger, which is a shame because its often fear that triggers lucidity for me. But, whatever, I still didn't question the unreality. I think its because I've been flying in dreams for 30+ years... There's a thread about this (i.e. not spotting obvious dreamsigns) somewhere.

Thanks, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one! I guess we all have to find what works for us. As you say, your dream last night makes a point - no matter how obvious something might seem, if it's something we do in deams anyway then it probably won't trigger lucidity. I need to think of something I'm likely to take notice of....

Thanks, for the ideas and for pointing me to your links!

alot of wierd stuff goes on in dreams. that usually doesnt trigger lucidity or suscipsion to do RCs.
what does do that is usually the habit of doing RCs, and thinking 'am i dreaming' occasionaly.
its a pretty random method - you can have a lucid dream for a week and then not have a ld for a month. just keep doing it frenquantly for higher success rate

Wow, that's a very tundra way of putting it.

(I couldn't resist. xD Seriously though, it takes a while before you start doing RCs in your dreams. Try doing more than one RC as a habit in real life, as in increased chance of RCing in your dreams. Most of my lucids have not been obtained through my usual finger-through-hand RC, but by looking at digital clocks, text, pushing my hand through glass...)
