      How Does Music Effect LD

Today is my first day on this site and like my 3rd or 4th post. My question is: I really love music and it plays a big part of my life. I often make my own videos to songs I like to entertain myself. If you enter REM sleep with, let's say Outkast playing. How does that affect your LDing. Does it help or hurt. I've never purposely had an LD but I have experienced some of the things I've read so far. Tonight I'll make a conscious effort to do it. Should I leave the music out of it or does it help?

this is a HUGE question, that has no huge impacting answer, and i have asked it too, myself

i think that if you are listining to music during REM sleep, and you have a dream, and if you are lucid, and hear the music, it might help you ATTAIN that lucidity, or cause you to realize you are dreaming, or just a simple RT.

      i personally recomend incubus.

I'll try tonight to record my dreams without music. If there is any degree of success, I guess I'll ease music into the equation and see what happens. Maybe I'll even get a Incubus CD and see what happens.

ususally, well this is what "THEY" believe, that most dreams dont happen until after 5-6 hours of sleep...
so wake up then and put on some music and see what happens...in fact i will try that tonight, if i can be bothered!

What? You don't like Outkast (The Love Below) or is introducing music into this bad, with me being a novice and all?

I dunno about posers...but this goth chick tries to avoid anything that has to do with rap or hip hop. ::shudders:: of course, this is all personal.

Music is very powerful -especially when it comes to the power of suggestion and subconscious "reception." It depends on how lucid you are while hearing the music and how your brain interprets the moods/emotions being conveyed by it. All music has some sort of "emotional sound" or mood within/connected it. I'm not familiar with Outkast, but if their music tends to be angry or sad, your dreams may inevitably have such elements -then there's the lyrics as well (I think the "sound" has more impact than the lyrics, but it really depends on the emphasis among other things... some rap has a more lyrical emphasis and some has a more musical/instrumental emphasis. If there are single words or phrases that are emphasized, your brain is probably more likely to pick up on these while your sleeping, rather than a drawn out story line. I've noticed that when entering lucidity directly while falling asleep, my auditory senses tend to shut down -I can hear the music fade and sometimes completely stop -to some degree, you may not hear the music at all unless you're in a particular stage of sleep where your hearing "opens up" again or if you can sleep with loud music playing...

For me personally, I can't sleep with music on. Or rarely, I should say. I'm a musician and my ears soak up music like a sponge. Can't really have it in the background. If it's on, I'm focusing on it. But you should definately play around with it - see what happens and let us know.

Anything ambient I find potentially good for sleep. Low volume and droning. Surely not Incubus or Emperor!

Really depends on the mood I'm in. I mentioned Outkast, because one of the discs on Speaker Boxxx/The Love Below has a really mellow mood to it and that's what I'm on right now. But for whatever reason, I'm REALLY feeling Linkin Park. I love their sound especially on songs like The End, Crawling In My Skin and Numb.
I tried for the first time to recall my dreams last night, to no avail. I'm not discouraged at all, it being my first time trying and all. I woke up once in the night and actually remembered to say to myself "I'm dreaming, this is a dream" over and over. Thing is I don't remember falling asleep again or if I was actually up to begin with. I see this is going to take some practice and that's cool. Somone posted a link with a book I should get to read more in depth with this. Can't recall the name. I think it's Laberge? At any rate, I'll go back to that thread and get the correct title.
Paper Doll, as open minded as you have to be to get into LD, I'm surprised you put limitations on music. I still luv though.

The best music before LDing is opera, or celtic music which calms you.
Rock or metal absolutely stinks before you go to bed i think, its to loud and agressive if you ask me. R&B is possible.

Very mellow R&B. I've never bought an opera cd and I'm not sure what Celtic would be. Is that similar to Enigma? I have my days when all I want to hear is alternative or classical. Then I have my Pink Floyd and hard Hip Hop days. Today I'm in a mellow mood. Gotta do The Love Below cd.

actually, I'm a little more open than you may think...I just have a lot more exploring to do..when I had kazaa I had downloaded some gregorian chants and some celtic music, along with some trance and techno. so don't think I ONLY listen to metal. also, alot of the metal I like (mostly black) it's not just blaring quitars and screaming / growling vocals, it also has alot of symphony orcestra...and Ihsahn from Emperor has some beautiful vocals.

      j/k I wouldn't do that

I've never heard of Emperor, but I'll check for it since it's been mentioned a few times in this thread.
Don't get me wrong, Doll. I wasn't typecasting you, just recommending some hip hop that's not all about b*tches Ho*s and busting caps at n*ggaz, LOL. Hip hop is bigger than the stuff we're forced to listen to on the radio.
