Polyphasic sleep cycles (uberman sleep cycle)

Ok someone here on dreamviews mentioned polyphasic sleep cycle and i did about 4 hours of quick Google research on it and i think it would be a good idea to try it out

Check it out tell me what you think. I am wondering if we can get a group of us on dream views to try this out and record the findings if you want to help me in this experiment that would be great and we can start to think up a schedule

Also, it says that dreams are more intense and possibility of lucidity went UP!!!

      Alright GIVE ME FEEDBACK!

I looked into it a few months back, but could not find any way to work it into my schedule.

I hope maybe you can attract enough people to set up and run an experiment in the lab!

I would take part in your experiment if I thought it pertained to me...but I can typically get into an REM state at any time at any hour of the day and have LDs, how or why? I have no idea? I think its a state of mind?

First thing you need to do is join the research team: http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8700

Then follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the lab sticky.

Let me know if you have any questions. Hopefully you can get your experiment started soon.

Is there a way to sleep polyphasically if there's a 7-hour block every weekday where you can't sleep? I've read a few people's blogs who were all trying it with a core block of sleep and 1/2 hour naps throughout the day, but I think their biggest gap was five hours. Anyone have any ideas?

sounds very promising, and a very interesting project!

This would be a great experiment for the lab, if you could get enough people who are willing to do this, but i think most would not be able to due to various reasons.
I would have loved to try this out, but since im a high school student which depends on me being fully awake in a 6-hour block of time its impossible
plus id have my parents down my throat if i got up and wandered round the house at 3am.
but all in all, brilliant project and i would be very interested to see the results!

im sure it would be a good sleep cycle for college students

Not if you're one of those high school students who falls asleep for that 6 hour block of time.

Maths Teacher: Ben! What's x2*3 to the power of 4?
      Ben: Mmm. sausages.
      Maths Teacher: What?
      Ben jerks awake.
      Ben: Er...er.................
Maths Teacher: You weren't listening were you.
      Ben: Nope.
      Maths Teacher: Oh. Okay then.

Haha, too bad that won't work for me, my classes have about 10 kids in them on average... I tried to fall asleep in lunch today after reading this post and researching polyphasic sleeping last night, but it didn't work, girls kept touching my hair (guys, never grow your hair long and expect to be left alone ). I'll have to wait until summer.... But think of how many more opportunities to try WILD and VILD and all those good things if you sleep every 3.5 hours! And it's a constant WB2B!

I think this would make a good summer / winter break project as a lot of ppl are in school right now. Just think on it.

Well when i tried it (altough it was a sad attempt) I sleep during lunch, I would jsut go to the nurses office and tell her what I was doing and go to sleep and then she would wake me up when lunch was over. As you know christmas vacation is coming up!!! I am going to make a topic for the polyphasic sleep cycle experiment (P.S.C.E) sign up. sooooo if you think you could really commit to this and want to try it you can sign up there. Hopefully it will be up in a couple days.

I like the idea.. I might experiment with it when the summer rolls around again (unless I have a job during that time). It doesn't fit in with school though.. since I'd have to go with 6 hours of no sleep.

I'll try it as soon as sweeps are over (I work in television).

      Prolly around th'end of th'month.

      I'll definetly join.

I can manage to get 20 to 30 minutes sleeps at my work 2 times and the weekend is coming up so I should be getting better in the middle of next week (so I hope at least). If not it doesn't matter much at all. I'll be working here for about a half year and maybe I won't get the chance to do something like this again ^^.

      OK, I'll do this!
It just sounds great AND I can manage to bring such a schedule in line with my work for at least the next 6 months or so I guess.
      I'll start right today!
I've got one question though, were shall I make one post that gets edited by me were I write down my data (since we are doing science here) ?
Should we start a thread for those data or has someone an other idea? For now I will write everything down on paper but some place in the labs-forum would be better I guess.

This is, of course not good for you. But since that is obvious I won't dwell on it. Instead I propose a new plan - why not stay awake for 20 mins every four hours. mmmmm 22 hours sleep

This thread needs a voice of reason or a motherly figure to tell you not to be so silly .

Theres no evidence that it isn't good for you after your used to it.... So don't say that. The only bad thing about it is if your body is trying to heal.. which it does during N-REM (This sleep cycle supresses n-rem). If your healthy and over 18, You'll be fine, you can always dump it if it doesn't work for you.... wouldn't hurt to try.

      hmmm worries

i have some worries and just some statements on this topic.

You do most of your growing when you're sleeping. If you shorten this period, you would most likely see a huge decrease in your growth.

This reminds me of the sleeping habits of a cat or a wolf. They sleep for about thirty minutes and stay awake for awhile. I also read about this Biologist that studied wild wolves and converted to their sleeping habits so he could observe them better. He said that he felt better on that schedule then he did when he was on a normal humans schedule.

With the work hours and demands of modern life, this may not be the most practical system of sleep. If you work in an office cubical and get a lunch break and that's it, i wouldnt recomend this to you. BUT!!! if you work at home, or get several opertunities to take a break durring the day, i couldn't see why you wouldnt be able to pull it off.

again i stress, if you're not done doing you're physical growing, i wouldn't try this "Uberman" sleep schedule untill you are done growing.

I'm on the third day now and for some strange reason I only feel a little tiered. My legs are getting tiny cramps once in a while but I'm not sure if it is closely related.
The first 5 times I just stood up after lying awake. After that I always dreamed... or maybe felt in some kind of uncontrolled thinking right after lying down.
As soon as I feel unhealty I will ofcourse stop this messing with my brain and body but tiil now it goes very fine. I'm asking myself how tomorrow will be. I'm working in an office but I'm free to choose when I make my rests as long as I'm 8 hours working a day. Falling asleep on a table is a speciality of mine that once was a burden at school-times but is now getting handy ^^.

I guess it's too fast for making conclusions but tiil now I really feel great.

      Such an optimist

      hmm, try your gran then

Anyway, I found there's loads of good stuff about polyphasic sleep cycles out there - its not just the uberman sleep cycle there's others and a lot of good websites about. It would be good if we could find one that was well suited to lucid dreaming and perhaps not as extreme as ubermans. I for one cannot use ubermans because I have a skin condition and need my regen sleep. I might consider a cycle with the major part in the night - perhaps 3 cycles (around 4.5 hours) then nothing till much later in the day to produce rem sleep deprivation. The nap later in the day would then be my lucid dreaming nap

It's Day 6 in the morning... soon my world will be finished *smirk*

For some reason I always fall asleep around 0400 to 0700 for about one and a half or two hours in the morning and don't wake up on my alarm... the strange thing is that sometimes the alarm seemed to had rang for 5 minutes and stoped and on other days I seemed to have switched it off (that is quite a complex task even awake) but can't remember it. I want to remember my dreams and not forget what I'm diong when I'm awake!
If I really switched it off... ?
Except of that I'm doing fine with sleeping 5 times for 20min and one time for about 1hour and 30min. Thats a total of 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Now I'll start fighting that 1hour 30min block with all it takes to reduce it to 20min GAMBATTE!.

Hmm, let's see... I need a plank, a bowling bowling ball, several matches, toilet-paper, a hammer, 4 nails, 2 meter of cord and a fire drencher.
      ...
YES ! , that should work...
behold my waking-machine. I need a patent on that. Lets call it the wack-slap-wake-something... or sumethin... *vacantly mubling*
