      Update on Tibetan Dream yoga.

Okay, so a few months ago I posted on here that I would be starting lucid dreaming with tibetan dream yoga and keep you all informed on my progress with it.

Well, I have good news. After a while it became a natural part of my mind to remember that life was a dream and at this point I was having on average three lucid dreams naturally a week! (I haven't updated my counter in my signature)

Anyways, I kept up the practice for about a month then got distracted with fitness, employment and my band. But I just wanted to let you all know that it works AMAZINGLY well. I am starting up again tonight. I just can't let life distract me from it.

I wanted to find a book about this topic but there are lots of them out there.

Would you mind producing the exact name of the book or an Amazon link please? I am very interested in reading this book!

hey that's great! tibetan dream yoga is the core of my dreaming practice - i've been studying tibetan buddhism for a few years so it was only natural that i began applying it specifically to LDs.

i'm still training myself to wake up at three times during the early morning and moving between four points of focus/chakras. the teachings say, for example, to merge with the white tiglé in your third eye chakra, but i've had trouble with this. i just can't really stay with the image and it's normally too weak to stay with me as i fall asleep... can you elaborate a bit on what you do - any advice on the specifics of the practice?

The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche is pretty much the authority for me on the subject. it's a very good book and provides a good explanation of the Tibetan outlook on dreams in relation to karma, the uses of lucidity etc. they've been doing this stuff for millennia and the western world just looks retarded in comparison.

I agree about the Western views on the subject. And thanks for the title. Added to my booklist!

I don't even purposely wake myself up in the mornings. I just naturally wake up about 2 hours from the time my alarm clock is set to go off, then I lay completely still and don't move a MUSCLE. I focus on my third eye and create the thoughts and feelings I have while lucid in a dream and the next thing I know I am in the dream fully conscious.

That is my night time practice. My day time practice: I create a map of the world around me and remain conscious of where I am at all times, noticing when things change and such. At the same time, I keep the presence of mind that all of my surroundings are of the essence of dreams. I realize that real life is just a continuous dream and I interact with my surroundings in a manner that I would if I was lucid dreaming - confidently, curiously and analytically.

When you wake up, you don't even stay awake for an hour? Is this part of the Tibetan method?

No, I don't do WBTB. If you don't move a muscle when you wake up, you can alert your mind enough to stay awake while you keep your body on the verge of sleep so it's an instant WILD or MILD with no effort.

i like this. i think i'll start maintaining a map of the world around me like you described - this is the kind of thing i'd like to do in my dreams, so i think i should do it during the day as well.

I'm always on and off with Dream Yoga. When I am actively practicing, I also get several lucid dreams a week. It does take a small amount of attention during the day, which sometimes makes it inconvenient. If I have to keep a lot of other stuff on my mind (like learning a lot of new information, or heavy problem solving), I can't really do it.

And I agree that Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche's book is the best introduction out there.

It does take a lot of focus to remind yourself that you really are dreaming, but it pays off when you go to bed. Anyways, I am just way too busy with stuff that it's hard to just zone out and think like that. Either I am driving in insane traffic, taking notes rapidly in class, lifting weights or sprinting (takes mind over matter a lot) or playing a band practice or an actual performance.

Reminding myself to gain awareness is easy, but lately it has been difficult to maintain this awareness when I am always doing activities that require such devotion of attention.

currently reading through that book, halfway through- so far a lot of "introductory" information but nothing excessively practical just yet, still a good read. Let's see how the second half of the book will fair.

i thought it was awesome maybe because i've studied tibetan culture, but yeah, some people think it's odd or whatever. after you get to the practice itself you might be more interested - the chapter entitled "lucidity" is kinda cool, like the uses of LDs and such.

I did a google search for "dream yoga forum" and found zero forums or even forum subsections on the matter. Would be cool to talk to a dream yoga master

found this series of videos on tibetan dream yoga:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZUXS...eature=related

atm had time to watch the 1st one and the guy explains stuff pretty well. Seems that the main technique of dream yoga is a special type of WILD. Since tibetans pretty much invented the culture of lucid dreaming I'll pay close attention.
