      Any reason to choose just one of DILD & WILD?

      The practices involved with DILD & WILD don't seem to be mutually exclusive. So, is there any reason to choose one over the other?

      For instance, the daytime could be a time to work on practicing MILD exercises and getting in the habit of doing reality checks. If one resolves to write down one's dreams every time one wakes up in the night, then it's pretty straightforward to to a short WBTB routine (e.g. go to the bathroom after jotting down dreams) and then attempt to induce a WILD while going back to sleep.

      This seems to me like it'd make the efforts for lucidity be a 24/7 practice since you can always do an RC and you can always attempt to WILD while falling asleep.

      So, is there any reason not to do this?

      That's actually what I used to do, except I tried WILDing before bed instead of WBTB, which is very hard to do. I've only gotten close to WILDing.

      These days, I sort of try to WILD before bed, but not very hard. I still do regular reality checks throughout the day though. I've only had some success with DILD's (4 so far, after trying for about 3 months or so). I've had a super-strange WILD experience, but I didn't go into a Lucid dream, instead I went into something much weirder.

      I don't see why you wouldn't try both simultaneously. It makes sense to try.

      Good luck.
      To do list:
      Have an LD(without waking up immediately) [x]; LD for more than 30 seconds[x]; LD for more than 2 minutes[x]
      WILD [ ]; DILD [7(ish)]; Fly [x];
      Practice a skill so that I will be better at it in real life [ ];
      Create world peace using a harmonica [ ];
      Solve a real life problem [ ]; Turn the world into a nudist colony [ ]

      Some people say that the wild method is better because you can have it at will and the experience of going to sleep awake and the sensations you feel is exclusive to the WILD method.
      Other people would say that the DILD method is better because it happens randomly and is more rewarding.
      Personally i like the WILD method..

      Well, the thing is... if you have a successful WILD, then there's no need to DILD because you';re already lucid. That, and as somebody already mentioned, WILD doesn't really work when you first go to sleep... it's more for a WBTB. So, when you first go to bed, try for a DILD or MILD, then when you wake up try for either a DEILD or a WILD. For me it's like this... when I wake up I try for a DEILD, but if I cant get right back to sleep then I get up, write what I can remember in my DJ, and then do a WBTB and try for a WILD.

      Haven't been successful yet in actually inducing an LD, only had 2 random ones so far. But I finally trained myself to not move when I wake up and lay perfectly still... it feels like DEILD is looming on my horizon...

      The only reasons why I would say it's better to choose one is if the person can only do one type of induction technique, or if they have a really high lucid rate with a particular technique. I've been LDing for nearly 3 years, and I'm still close to a 50/50 WILD/DILD ratio.

      My success rate isn't really high with either method, so I work on both. Sometimes I'll have a lot of DILDs, and sometimes I'll have a lot of WILDs. I'll switch the main focus depending on whats working from time to time. One day I hope to master one of them so I don't have to focus on it as much.

      No, of course it's not necessary! But a lot of people find that they can do one or the other much more easily. Personally, I rarely DILD, but WILD has come fairly naturally! Others fall asleep when they WILD. Personally, I'm a fan of M-WILD, which is where you stay awake while WILD-ing by concentrating on a mneumonic (such as "I will lucid dream") that can induce DILDs if the WILD fails!

      Do them all... it can only increase your chances. I still do reality checks every day even though I rarely induce lucids this way. Every little bit helps though. Once you perfect MILD/WILD you will be able to do it whenever you want. The only difference is whether or not you retrain conscious through the falling asleep process. There is no reason to do WILD without MILD in my opinion. If you are going to focus on something to stay conscious, it might as well be a hypnotic suggestion to induce lucids. BTW< I'm not sure why people call mnemonics DILD, these are MILDs. DILD starts from a non-lucid dream by doing a reality check, dream sign, result of HILD, etc. It's all semantics, but that's my understanding anyway.

      Actually consistency will raise your chances...

      Practice one or the other A LOT and the other one a bit. Consistency is a key.
      Working on: Daily awareness.
      Lucid Task: Reverse the flow of a waterfall and ride up it.

      Thank you both for your replies, but I disagree with Tushix.
      Try doing consistently hand RCs every day and see where that gets you--your hand will start to look perfectly real in dreams!
      I think it's good to shake it up a little to keep your mind on dreaming and remain engaged.
