      Dream Theory

Are dreams the supposed superposition all things are configured in just before being observed and collapsing, resulting in the final outcome? Are dreams the lost remnants of what could have been, but are not? I'm beginning to think so, it explains a lot of things. It's a theory that ties together the idea of quantum entanglement, the holographic universe, the big bang theory, Schrodinger's cat, and pretty much everything else. What are everybody else's thoughts? Feel free to share and explore ideas in this thread. I am not concerned with your ability to prove or disprove any given notion, such ideas don't really have a place here. I am more interested in hearing your thoughts on what can't be but should, so please, do share.

I'd also like to establish a few ground rules, if you will, to spur free thought and and good judgement. Please, do not insult each other in this thread. I want things to be extremely open, so any ideas that you have, again, share them if you would. By the same token, anybody else, feel free to shoot as many holes as you can in these ideas, for science, and personal growth! I want to learn something, and that can't happen if I am unwilling to admit that I may be wrong or don't understand something. That being said, please help other's to understand things as well. Not all of us are as intelligent as each other, nobody here reads minds. We all want to understand things and to learn, so let's help each other to do so.

I'll start. I think I am wrong, and this is why.

I think dreams are a function of reconciling memories, converting them to the long term. It is how we learn and solve problems, it is the peak of creativity. Out of nothing, in the void, we create landscapes, noises, thoughts, fractals, scenarios, games, and lives. I think the more you associate with an idea, the more likely it is to show up in your dreams. You see a couch, and think red soft pillow tv love hate sex comfortable memories time green black blue whatever. The more this association pops up, the more likely it will pop up again in a dream. It's the ultimate tool for solving problems, two totally random sparks touch each other and set off an enormous chain reaction, it's amazing.

I completely agree with you on this one. I have "witnessed" a glimpse of the subconscious mind of a friend. What I saw was those sparks that you mentioned that cause an enourmous chain reaction. But what I saw were not random sparks. They were memories of the events that happened throughout the day. At first those memories just looped around in a circle. Then they started to intertwine with one another, thus creating new thoughts, ideas, sentences etc.
I think the sleeping mind does exactly that, it tries to connect old ideas, memories into new combinations of thought.

More about dreams, I think dreams try to simulate reality.
The universe that is around us exists, with or without us (or maybe the idea of biocentrism may be true, who knows...) and technicaly we experience it because our brain interperts the external stimuli from it and tries to recreate the universe to us so we can see it in it's full glory.
Dreams may be a "practice" of the brain to simulate the entire universe without any external stimuli. An atempt to recreate everything that exists on it's own. Perhaps it wants to become "God"?

The brain is quite an amazing thing-a-majig.
