      Value of Being Here Now

Most of us have heard the phrase Be here Now, it is a saying that highlights the importance of being aware of the present moment rather than pondering on future or past events.

I have trouble seeing the value of the here and now. Isnt our ability to prepare for the future and reflect on the past beneficial to us?

For anyone who is into this idea I would love to know more about what value there is in being Here Now

As a side note, a catchy tune called Be Here Now ^__^

I don't think you can receive an answer that will satisfy your curiosity on this matter.

Being here and now looks absurd to us, we tend to think that to be here and now is to be careless to our future.

The importance of being aware of yourself is only important to satisfy your own ego. It is not something you can strive to achieve. It is quite the opposite, you let yourself go, you let your ego go. Here and now as a part of a bigger world, as a part of a bigger family.

The value of being here and now is being here and now.

So is it Be Here Now vs. Ego Trip? Or are they the same? Is one truly better? What did the ego do wrong that it must be abandoned? When we are fully here now, will it then be time to abandon the here now in order to be in full ego? Ying yang?

I know this is a ton of questions so feel free to just answer to what you most resonate with

One comes after another, in my understanding, you cannot be here and now if you are attached to your ego. If I understood you right on 'ego trip', you can say that ego trip is on the way to here and now.

Honestly my struggle is that it sounds like a boring achievement to be here now. I always imagine Buddah with his peaceful smile to be actually so boring compared to a riveting adventurous journey with the ego with its highs and lows, the ego seems to be the action packed thrill ride route that stories and movies are made of. Here now seems like the meditative fasting on a mountain top for 40 years that would bore me to enlightenment

Under "here and now" I understand to be able to enjoy the present moment.

Not to worry about past mistakes or worry about what will future bring and how you will accomplish something. Just to be happy about what you have now. It may not be much, but there is a way to find joy in small things.

If you are interested in lucid dreaming, then learning to live in the Here & Now, even if only for a moment now and then, can be very helpful to you come dreamtime.

Why? Because a dream is a near-perfect Here & Now event, in that a dream (especially a NLD) has no past or future; only the current moment. If you are practiced in experiencing the present during waking life, you might find it easier to relate to your dreams and to navigate them.

Also, living in the Here & Now isn't as bad as it sounds, and abandoning ego is not boring at all.

It is not about what ego did wrong or did not do wrong. Right now every your question and concern is in its roots attached to you, to your ego, and its not the reason to say that ego is bad. But living with that anchor attached to you all the time makes you live in a tunnel vision style. By letting it go you will experience life in a different way.

So now when you will be here and now, you will not have to abandon it in order to enjoy ego. Instead you will enjoy ego as a toy, a toy that you know is a toy and you can get rid of it any time you want.

Anyway, I think we are all here talking of a different thing. I was baptized when I was small, but it wasn't my choice and I do not pay much attention to that. I am not following any religion and did not know anything about Buddhism on my way there and I am not following Buddhism now when I know some of ideas that I have match what Buddhism is about. So I don't want to judge what is Buddha doing and whether he is bored or not.

Coming back to roots of this question, you are looking at the ultimate destination. Ego or no ego, here and now or not.. As soon as you will arrive there you will loose all interest and think what is next. Because it is not about the final destination, all the fun is on your way there and I think the journey is worth it. See how ironical it is, you were thinking of what is there and why ego is bad and now you know why.. You are looking at the final destination and missing everything that is on the way there. If it was so, the ultimate achievement in this life would be death and everyone would die as soon as they could.

So when you're out on an action-packed thrill ride, are you thinking about balancing your checkbook?

Being "here and now", means for me to be aware in the present,
and since the present is all there ever is...
I think you are missing out , this doesn't mean you shouldn't plan for your future, but what means the brightest future when
you never really experience it because all you ever do is again thinking about it.

      So many great responses!

What I am mostly hearing is to enjoy what is before you rather than let it slip away by daydreaming of being elsewhere.

Still I see value in looking into the future and reflecting on the past. I don't believe there are many times that I am so wrapped up in my head that I don't enjoy the present moment for what it is but I can see how that could be a misfortune of the #EgoLyfe

ALSO Flowofmysoul I love that idea of releasing the ego and being able to see it as a toy to be used at will rather than a tool I am enslaved to.

And I believe that is the ying yang that I can come to accept. To be ego when I choose to and also here now when I choose to. After all, this stream of experiences is truly an adventure we can spice up and decorate as we please.

      Edit:
I was just thinking, making a distinction between here now and there or then is a dualistic view. It is possible that all we can ever do is be here now, so that even in our imaginings, that is the current here now we experience. What we imagine as "the real world" and what we imagine is "in our thoughts" are made up of the same fiber, so the true here now is whatever is in most focus.
