The reason not everyone realizes that they Astral Project every night is the same reason some people don't Lucid Dream (or remember) Lucid Dreaming every night. One we haven't trained our minds to do so. Two some people may not be able to handle the experience. When you Astral Project you are seeing the physical plane as well as the astral plane. For example when I project I see every object in my room exactly as it is, but every item has an aura about it. I also can see entities who reside or who are visiting the astral plane. It's like having an all encompassing sense of sight, sound and feeling. If that makes sense...
Many people don't realize that there are also several other planes of existence past the astral plane. You have the Physcial Plane, next is the Astral or Emotional Plane, next is the Mental Plane, next the Buddhic Plane, next the Atmic Plane, next the Monadic Plane, and lastly the Logoic Plane. Which plane you reside on, and which corresponding body you reside in after death depends on your spiritual level of growth. Most people when they die, move on to exist in the astral body, and reside in the Upper and Lower Astral Planes. More advanced souls may travel in their mental bodies when they die, and reside on the Mental Plane. Of course they can also visit the Astral Plane. This can get very complicated expecially when trying to explain the attributes of each plane, so for now I'll leave it at this.
To answer your other question, you can induce an Astral Projection from a Lucid Dream if you can mimic in your dream, the actual movements of your Astral Body. When both movements coincide you may have a conscious projection. For example flying, and falling are the most common dreams signifying astral projection. If you can lucid dream, and then begin to fly, and if your astral body is at that moment producing the same movement. POP!! But just because you can fly in a lucid dream doesn't mean your astrally projecting.
Another technique I know of is when your lucid dreaming, to put yourself in an enclosed tank, and picture it filling with water. Imagine a tiny hole at the top of the tank. As the water begins to rise, imagine yourself squeezing through that hole. POP!! You've exteriorized!!
It always sounds easier I know...But if your good at Lucid Dreaming this would probably be easier and more effective withpractice than trying to induce a projection in the hypnagogic state.
