I am standing in an elevator and notice that it is not behaving correctly. I push a couple of buttons and they do not light up and the control panels has too many buttons on it. It feels like the elevator has stopped completely but the door will not open. I look at my reflection in the chrome border around the door and see that my face is very distorted. I reach up to do a nose pinch and end up pushing my finger right through my nose. I quickly become lucid and float off the elevator floor, then I push myself through the mirror-like chrome around the door.

After passing through the elevator wall, I appear into a large fancy hotel hallway. The carpet is the usual trippy hotel carpet, being mainly reds and purples in color. The walls are covered in flowery wallpaper with a contracting color scheme of yellows and greens. The ceiling has fancy copper tiles on it and large ----- I struggle for a moment to remember the ToTM's and remember something about phasing into a DC. I fly down the hallway, looking at each room in an attempt to find someone. I am scanning each door for an infrared heat signature and find a room with someone in it. I can see a reddish-orange outline of a person standing in the middle of the room.

I push myself through the door and fly up to the DC. He stands there rather still, giving me a nervous look, almost knowing that something weird is about to happen. I fly around him a couple more times, then try to push myself inside of him. I get my arms in, then he pulls away from me a bit. I back up a little, then hit him full force, but I end up passing all the way through and coming out the other side. I turn around and more carefully align myself with him and manage to stay inside for a bit longer. It feels kinda warm and squishy while inside - very weird and mildly uncomfortable. I can see that I am standing inside something as there is a slightly opaque layer in front of me. It takes quite a bit of effort to keep myself inside the DC. It's kind of like balancing on top of a ball as even the slightest movement causes me to fall outward. I step out of him and look to see that he has quite a terrified look on his face. I giggle, then fly off and go back out through the door without opening it. I appear in a brightly lit room and before I even have a chance to stabilize, I suddenly wake up.

I am in a hotel room and decide to change rooms. I quickly pack up all my bags and leave the hotel room on the first floor and get into the elevator. I fight the door a bit to stay open while I load about 6 or 7 bags into the elevator. Once inside, I see that there are 4 buttons on the control panel. Suddenly, I feel the elevator moving, so I push the “3” button. The elevator stops and I see a “3” on the wall when the door opens.

(Note: This was a notable event, as the elevator actually went to where it was meant to.)

I get off on the floor and drag all my bags with me. I can see my room across the hall and I walk in. The room is pretty shitty. It looks like it has been a smoking room that hasn't been cleaned in like 50 years. The walls are covered in smoke stains and there is black soot growing from all the outlets and switches. I say, “Fuck this, I ain't staying in this room.”

I turn around and walk back out toward the elevator. I see three other rooms which have their door wide open. In one room, there is a guy laying in his bed watching TV. In another, there are a few people sitting on the couch. I get to the elevator and push the button. After a moment, an elevator down the hall dings and the door opens. I try to drag all my bags to the door, but it closes just as I get there. I drag my bags close to the door and push the button again.

The elevator door opens again and I look inside and say, “What the fuck.” Just inside the door is a set of 4 steps that lead into the elevator. I wedge one bag in the door to keep it open, then I carry my bags down the steps and set them on the floor. I pick up my last bag and notice that there are no buttons at all on the elevator panel. I stand there for a second and the elevator starts moving. When it moves, only the middle part of the floor moves. The sides are open like an old industrial elevator. The walls don't move with the floor. It moves for a bit, then it stops and I suddenly wake up.

I am walking into an apartment building, carrying a plate of food from a buffet. The exterior walls have a lot of windows and the floor is made of industrial steel grating. Once I reach the elevator, I sit the plate down on the window ledge and press the elevator button. The elevator comes down and opens, and I get in. I get off at the third floor and walk to the end of the hallway. The hallway is outdoors between two sets of apartment buildings. The floor is also made of steel grating, so I can see people walking a couple of floors below me.

I approach the last door on the left and find that there is a combination lock on the door. I struggle for a moment to remember the combination, then open the door. Inside, there are several suit cases and piles of clothing laying around. I make my way back to the kitchen area and the door will only open halfway because there is a box of junk in the way. I sit my food on the counter and start to move some of the clothes and junk out of my way.

In the common area, there is a fireplace and a large empty space next to the sofa. Deciding that this would be a good spot to pile everything that's scattered afar, I go back to the entry hallway to pick up the luggage and bags of clothes. When I get there, they are all gone. I look around for a moment, then consider the idea of doing an RC. I raise my arms to look at my hands and suddenly wake up.
    4. Shopping Mall / Security Checkpoint / Military Surplus

I am walking with a couple of friends through a huge, multilevel shopping mall, looking for May's Surplus, a military surplus store. The mall has large spiral staircases throughout the main area, as well as elevators. The center of the common area is open so you can see the floors above and below. The mall is laid out with a main hub area and several wings that branch off from the corners of the hub.

We stop and look at the mall directory and map for a bit. This is no help at all, as the store names don't match what's really there, as well as the shape of the floor layout is wrong. I find May's on the map, but it says it's right behind us. When we turn around, there's a Harbor Freight and a Taco Bell there. One of my friends suggests that we may be on the wrong floor, so we walk toward the nearest elevator.

We step into a large elevator and look at the control panel. The buttons are not very helpful, as the numbers and letters appear to be in Chinese. We look at each other puzzled for a moment, then decide to take “pot luck” and press a button. The door closes and the elevator feels like it's moving quickly. After a brief moment, the elevator stops and we almost fall against the wall from the inertia. The doors open and we are on the same floor, right in front of Taco Bell. Disgusted, I press a couple more buttons, and the elevator starts moving again without closing the doors. We can see several floors go by, and I spot the May's Surplus store as we're moving. I frantically hit a bunch of buttons, but the elevator just speeds up. It finally stops what seems like 5-6 floors away from where we want to be. Deciding that we're getting nowhere, I suggest that we take the stairs.

We walk up a large spiral staircase which leads us out through the roof and up about 3 stories into the sky. There is an exit door at the top of the stairs which leads nowhere. My friends turn around and walk back down the stairs, but I decide to go out the door and climb down the exterior of the stairwell. The stairs and framework are built from steel tubing and beams, so I can see my friends walking down the stairs as I climb down the exterior of the structure. When we get to the bottom and find ourselves standing in the parking lot. I look at my friends with a confused expression for a moment, then walk back into the mall.

When we re-enter the mall, we immediately find the May's entrance. Right at the entrance, there is a display case full of grenades and smoke bombs. On the other side are pallets of banged up ammo cans on sale for $2 each. The nicer ones are $5 each and there are really big ones for $15. We walk in a little further and see display racks full of camouflage wear. This front part of the store is small, but there is an entryway at the back that leads into the larger part of the store.

There is a security checkpoint at a entryway leading to the rest of the store where we go through a TSA-like security screening .While being screened, the security officer asked me to lift my shirt to show the belt line. I lifted my shirt and they told me to turn around and walk over to a table. When I get to the table, the officer told me to turn around and he patted me down, starting at the cuffs of my pants. When he got to my butt, he spent a little extra time patting down that region. He stops and calls another officer over to check me. The second officer comes over and pats my butt for a bit, then says to the other officer, “This one should be checked thoroughly.” Before I know it, there are 4 security officers standing around me, staring at my butt. I turn around and say, “Did you find anything you like?” I give a naughty smile, then turn and walk away.

I catch up to my friends and we continue walking. The entrance that led into the rest of the store actually leads back into the mall again. However, this wing of the mall is in Canada, as there are ICE checkpoints all over the place. We walk down the wing for a bit, then find a store that doesn't have a regular open or glass storefront. Instead, it has a single steel door with a sign above it. The sign is in a foreign language, so I'm not sure what it is. I open the door and wake up.

    5. An Incredible Kiss in the Parking Garage (ToTM)

I am entering a large parking garage through a doorway from an airport. The warm humid air stinks of car exhaust and tire smoke. The sound of the buzzing ballasts in the putrid yellow high-pressure sodium light fixtures drown out my footsteps. The walls are dingy gray and there are many rusty pipes along the ceiling. I walk down the main aisle and approach the railing on the ramp where I can see the levels above and below the level I am walking on.

There is a guy walking on the lower level who is looking under and between cars as he walks toward the ramp. He has medium-length dark hair and is wearing a black leather jacket over a white t-shirt, black jeans, and black boots. He is carrying a large pistol, and has another pistol in a side holster. Before he spots me, I quickly move away from the railing and walk briskly up the ramp and toward the central stairway and elevator shaft.

As I approach the elevator, I see a guy who appears to have been shot in the leg. He is tying a t-shirt around his wounded leg and gives me a distressed look as I approach. He has long dirty-blond hair and blue eyes, and is wearing a long-sleeve gray striped shirt, torn blue jeans, and black shoes. There is some blood on the ground, and what looks to be the bullet he was shot with. There are several brown cloth shopping bags and a light gray case sitting on the ground. The case has a broken latch and is partially open, revealing that it is full of bright green pills. I ask him, “Are you OK?” As he is cleaning off his hands in a water fountain, he replies, “I am being hunted and it is not safe to stay here.” I say, “I think I saw your hunter on the way over here and he's walking up the ramp to this level right now.” I ask, “Are you OK to walk?” He replies, “My leg is OK, but I could use some help.” I ask, “Would you like me to help you carry anything?” He replies, “Sure, if you could grab the case, it is more important than any of these bags.” I pick up the case, holding it closed to keep any the pills from falling out. He picks up a couple of the bags and puts them into a trash can, then picks up the rest of the bags and walks with me to the stairs.

We walk down the stairs for a couple of floors, then decide to try the elevator. We walk around to the elevator and press the down button. The door opens immediately, and when we get in, the door closes quickly behind us. The control panel has only one button, so I push it. The elevator is making no noise and I cannot feel any movement at all. I can see my blurry reflection in the door, so I move closer and see that I have really large ears and a third eye in the middle of my forehead. I immediately become lucid and take a brief moment to stabilize by rubbing my hands together while looking up at the ceiling of the elevator. The ceiling is a typical medium fake wood-grain laminate with some brass panels in the corners. There are three white porcelain pull-chain sockets, two of which have a clear light bulb in them. The third socket has the broken remains of a bulb. There is a rusty metal fan grille with a logo plate that looks like it's in Russian, having an inverted 'N' and some other letters on it. I look down again and see that my reflection is gone and the control panel has hundreds of buttons on it now.

Realizing that I am dreaming now, I really want to strike up a half-intelligent conversation with the DC I just met. I look at the guy and ask, “What's your name?” He replies, “I'm Joe.” I put out my hand and say, “I'm Jim, glad I can help you out.” He gives me a firm handshake and says, “Thank you.” While giving Joe a good looking over, I say, “I love your hair, it's my favorite color.” He says, “Thanks, I like yours as well.” I ask, “Wouldn't it be awesome if we could trade hair for a day?” Joe looks at me for a moment, slightly puzzled, then asks, “Does it seem like this elevator is not going anywhere?” I reply, “I'm not sure. I haven't felt it move yet.” I look at the control panel and now there are no buttons at all. Becoming impatient with the elevator, I grab the door and force it open, only to discover that we are on the same level of the garage. I say, “Shit! Let's go back to the stairs. At least they seem to work properly in here.” We walk around the elevator and start heading down the stairs.

There is a female attendant standing behind a podium on the first landing of the stairs. She is collecting a cash payment for a ticket to access the last section of the stairway. A couple of rough-looking guards are checking ticket stubs as people pass through. Some people in front of us pay, receive a ticket and walk through. Both Joe and I pull out some cash and pay the attendant, but before we receive our tickets, I see the hunter walking toward the other side of the elevator shaft on the floor below. Joe's back is toward the hunter, and I am facing his direction. The hunter is looking the opposite direction as he approaches the elevator area.

I grab Joe and move in close to him to avoid being seen, saying softly, “Don't move and don't look to your left, the hunter is right there below us.” He looks at me with an absolutely terrified look. I say, “Just play along and blend in, or he will see us. Let's act like we're just some random tourists and kiss on the stairway.” The expression on his face changes from terrified, to a blank stare, then to a 'come and get me' grin. I drop the case on the ground, throw my arms around him, and start kissing him. He puts his arms around me and kisses me back very intently. His hands slowly massage their way up my back, then he grabs a handful of my hair and pulls me in slightly closer. I close my eyes and run my hands up his back, then grab his hair and pull him even deeper into the kiss. I could feel his heart pounding together with mine as our tongues got together and we kiss even more intensely. After a moment, I open my eyes and see that we are standing in an entirely white space with nothing and nobody around. I close my eyes again, and this was the dream's exit.
