    1. The Tickle-Worm Dream

      by , 08-23-2017 at 03:37 PM
07-27-2017 -- The Tickle-Worm. Dream starts out with me working as some sort of courier. I have stopped by a law office to pick up files to deliver somewhere, and they are a small pile of papers and a check that I have to take and place in an envelope (possibly re-useable) supplied for it. As I slide them in, the person there is telling me that there is no special hurry, and that I can take this and the one other package I currently have in either order, and I add in the instructions that I know are coming ... as long as I do not pick up any more on the way. This needs to get to their delivery spot quite quickly.

Don't have any clue just how the scene reaches this next point, but I find myself in a hotel room somewhere with my dad. I have a small wooden box, slightly decorated, that I think may have been based on a box from a Harry Potter fan-fic I was reading last night, that in the fic was a sort of magical mail box. In the dream, it holds an unusual creature that I have somehow received ... a Tickle-Worm. The Tickle-Worm is a worm. It starts out looking mostly like a regular worm, with a slightly larger 'head' area that actually has a bit of a face, and is perhaps about 8 inches long. It springs out of its box, and is supposed to kind of half curl up in my hand and sleep there, as I go to sleep.

The problem is, it seems to be curious and into exploring. As I go to lay down, it springs out of my hand and across the room, where it starts crawling around a book case, knocking books to the floor, and annoying my dad, who is trying to sleep. He's kind of upset about the thing making noise. That part I don't mind too much, but I do find it kind of irksome that it is knocking all of the Danny Dunn books off the shelves. I approach the bookcase, thinking I am going to have to kind of chase it around to try and catch it, but as I get close, it springs off the bookcase into my hand.

I'm walking back toward the bed, hoping I can now get a little sleep, but as I draw near, it springs off again, flying into a slightly open chest filled with boxes of colorful breakfast cereals, again doing some exploring. The next thing I know, I am in some sort of classroom or scientific lab speaking with a female teacher or scientist, asking about the Tickle-Worm, and she is explaining where they are found. She shows me a large, octagonal aquarium filled with water and seaweed, but no fishes.

This thing is probably about ten feet around, and perhaps four feet high, but weighs little enough that she can pick it up. Anyway, she picks it up and shows me a piece of seaweed that is long and wide and flat and thick (probably about four feet long, six inches wide, and about an inch thick) that is a slightly brownish green and now hanging from it is a tapeworm-like Tickle-Worm. Seems they start in sea water, but when removed, are perfectly fine.

[I do not think I have ever heard the term Tickle-Worm before this dream, but looking it up on the internet, it seems it may be something created by a band I have never heard of, in a song that I also have never heard. How it came to be in my dream, I have less than no clue.]
    2. Sanderson and the Balloon Convention, Bathing at the Hornet, and Hiding from Mom

      by , 05-30-2013 at 05:55 PM
05-27-2013 -- I'm in a room somewhere with a guy who is asking me to make him some floaty fliers, a balloon design I sort of adapted from somebody else's design. At first I think the guy wants me to teach him how to make the (extremely simple) design, but no, he wants me to make him a bunch of them. For free. I try to ask him why he doesn't just want to learn to make it, and he explains that he is out of black balloons. And there is now a shortage on them, so they cost too much. So he wants me to use mine, instead. Problem is, I have no balloons with me. But I point out we are in a big room with lots of bags of balloons, including several black bags. But he says they all belong to someone rich, who would charge him for them. I'm starting to get very mad at the guy, but suddenly find myself wondering if the big professionals feel the same way about me, and my limitations of money and skill ....

Anyway, the place seems to be slowly turning into a convention hotel or something, and it is starting to feel like I am at Twist and Shout, though it almost feels like it expanded out of a basic alley meeting. Another guy walks in, and starts to twist something, trying to demonstrate a technique or something, in almost a jam room sort of setting, but there is a young lady there who is being really obnoxious about it not being in the program, and there not being any announcement about it, and how was she supposed to know about it. She doesn't seem to understand it is not a class or something, but just a quick spur-of-the-moment thing.

Andrew McDonald shows up and starts doing something, then I think Greg Schuerman is there, as well. Soon Laura Caldwell shows up, and more and more people are gathering, even though it is still two hours before the official class is supposed to take place. Soon a grumpy security guard walks in, and everybody fears he is going to tell us to get out until time for the class, but he tells us the group has rented the room for the entire week, and we can use it whenever we want to. So somebody decides they might as well set up a bounce house there. I think Mark Byrne is also setting up for a show or presentation or something.

Time seems to jump, and it is now two hours later, and they are starting up a business meeting or something, but I am trying to do some writing, putting this dream into my notebook as it is happening (yet not managing to go lucid, even though I obviously know I am dreaming in at least one sense) and the meeting is kind of distracting me, so I walk outside. But it turns out to be even more noisy and distracting there, because Don Caldwell and Billy Damon are putting on some sort of show. They explain they are sort of ADD, and don't do all that well with the business meeting portion of the convention, so they are waiting until that finishes, and things get a little more interesting, before they go in. That ought to be about ... say ... now. So they head back inside, and I decide to follow.

As I walk in, Don (or possibly Mark) is giving some sort of demonstration where he is pretending to be a plane, and several members from the audience are supposed to be his landing strip, unfortunately, they keep running away when he flies at them! It's a very strange thing. Meanwhile, I have this strange feeling of anticipation, and somehow know something I have no way of knowing. Deep underground, far beneath us, is the inescapable prison of Hathor, which recently had it's first ever breakout. The long-trapped hero has been slowly making his way toward the Panarch's Palace, and will be joining us shortly ... then things will really start to happen. Somehow this balloon convention is turning into some sort of Brandon Sanderson novel.

05-27-2013 -- Hints of some kind of office work, maybe at Hewitt, or maybe at a new, slightly twisted version of the Hornet newspaper. First bit is, as usual, not all there and rather limited. Anyway, we seem to be moving desks and computers and things to a new room, and we're pushing desks and computer parts and things together in some weird angles, joining them all together, but we really don;t know if they are likely to work like that. Somehow I manage to knock over a glass of orange juice that is sitting there, but manage to grab it so fast that only a couple of drops manage to spill. We are so busy with moving everything that there is no time to clean everything up properly, but we just drop an old newspaper on the tiny bit of spilled juice, and hope it will absorb it.

The computers are now all hooked up, and two lovely women are working with me here. One, I think, is Chloe from Smallville. The other might be a slightly younger version of BC. Somehow though it mostly seems to be the Hornet at the moment, there is also a hint of the 3M Dental warehouse. For some reason there is a tub in the middle of the office, and I am kind of embarrassed about stripping down and climbing in, but a few seconds later I am trying to coax either or both of the lovely women into the tub with me. No luck at the moment, because they both have work to get done, but indications are good for both of them at some later time, so I am still fairly happy. Problem is, as I move around in the tub, which I seem to have over-filled, water is splashing over the side, and I am hoping it doesn't do any damage. Luckily, it seems to room was designed for it, so it all seems to be good.

[At this point, things shift slightly, and this may be a different dream, but it seems to fit, so I am not sure.] I step out of the shower, instead of a bath, and find myself in mom's bathroom in the Hickory house. I am thinking about using the toilet, but these days it is always broken, damaged, and jammed up in my dreams, so I am worried to do so. The good news is mom knows this, too, and has bought some gadget to attach to the toilet that is supposed to keep it working better. The bad news is, it doesn't seem to be up to the job, and is bubbling wildly like it is about to explode.

So I just exit the bathroom wrapped in a towel, into mom and dad's bedroom. Dad is laying there asleep, but mom is not there. It is late at night, and mom has been really unstable recently (all the dreams of her beating up on me) so I am afraid she is going to yell at me for taking a shower so late, and I just want to get out of there. I sneak out of their room, but am horrified to see mom is sitting in my room. Thankfully she has fallen asleep, so I quietly sneak down the hall and into the living room, where I find the couch is still warm, and I realize Melody must have just left again, after napping there. I realize mom was in my room hoping to catch Melody when she came in so late, but she fell asleep, and never heard Melody, since she decided to just nap on the sofa. I curl up in the warm spot she left and drift off to sleep, myself.
    3. Possible New Entrance to Mammoth Cave and Other Bits

      by , 10-17-2012 at 07:16 PM
10-17-2012 -- [AAUUGGHH!! Bought some apple juice but forgot to drink before bed. Woke this morning with an interesting seeming dream, but couldn't remember more than half of it. Finally drank apple juice, then spent four hours trying to get back to sleep only to manage about one more hour, and a rather lousy dream during it! ]

I'm pretty sure this started with a bit where I was at home at the Hickory house with my family, everything decorated for Christmas. Especially remember lots of silver wrapping and/or decorations. But that's all I can remember.

Led somehow to something about the Hornet Newspaper and perhaps the college, but no details available. Soon I found myself traveling with Dale to Disney World or something. I think we were in the park, but there's nothing there. No details. Soon we are outside, and are going to drive somewhere. Dale has this weird rig set up which is something like a pick-up pulling a camper, pulling a boat, and the camper is sort of flipping down to seal Kevin inside for the drive.

I think there is something that kind of resembles Knott's Jungle Island, except it quickly turns to some sort of Polynesian themed resort that happens to be in the middle of Mammoth National Park. Some guy is walking next to the tennis court, planning to get something from his cellar (which is oddly under a palm tree by the court) but when he goes down the ladder to the cellar, he doesn't come up again.

His wife or girl friend is starting to worry, and glances into the cellar, but a recent earthquake or such has cracked the foundation and leads into a new cave entrance. He's gone in and gotten lost, and his wife is freaking out about how he could have gotten lost in what must obviously be a very small cave if it has never been found before.

I am trying to explain to her that they've discovered that almost all the caves in the world are almost certainly connected if you get deep enough into them, and if you could find ways through flooded and collapsed passages, and she doesn't believe me. "How unlikely is that?!?" [In truth I take it too far. There is a very good chance that almost all caves in the part of Kentucky where Mammoth is located, the entire area under the Central Kentucky Karst, could be connected through passageways that people haven't yet found, but very unlikely that they go beyond that karst region.]

I'm trying to explain how Mammoth became the largest mapped cave in the world because of all the connections found between Mammoth, Morrison, Salt Cave, Crystal Cave and so on, but she just doesn't believe me. Thankfully there is an information desk at the hotel, and I am asking them to help me explain. Among other things they have a very thick guidebook that is actually the three Roger Brucker books bound into one larger volume, and I am trying to get the info desk person to read about some of the connections listed in the second book, Beyond Mammoth Cave.

Soon I find myself at an airport with B & C and some others. B & C are heading somewhere, and lots of us have come to see them off. Almost everybody else has already said goodbye and wandered off, but I figure I might as well stay with them to the gate. But B seemed opposed to this idea, so I wander off on my own and start out of the airport, only to find I still need to go through security.

I make it through the security check point to find myself on a deck area that doesn't start out as one, but seems to turn into an aircraft carrier or something. I see what first seems to be low-flying odd planes shooting by, but soon turns into almost a sort of centrifuge test thing to check on pilot stresses, g-forces and the rest. This thing seems to have four capsules on four arms swinging in a circle with only one above the water at any one time.

Soon there are two of them, one on each side of the ship, and as one is loading up soldiers to train and test, the other is letting them out. The ones being loaded up are all young, fit and the picture of health. The ones being released are in bad shape. Old, out of shape, either fat or skin and bones. Parts of one seem to be an actual skeleton, while others are missing limbs. Whatever they are training for, the training seems incredibly rough!

      ---

Bonus, since it is not worth posting on it's own. I am sitting in a bedroom at a table, playing with my computer. I am playing some sort of game that involves collecting small blue gems that kind of look like the shatter pattern of a bullet through glass, or maybe making them. As time goes on, it is certainly making them, except it turns to making them out of a play doh-like or gum-like substance in real life, while sitting in front of the computer.

Whatever this stuff I am making is now in purple as well as blue, and it is something that I am taking to help me remember dreams. But a few of the bits have fallen off the back of the desk onto the floor, and I decide I should collect them. To try and climb under the space under the table, I have to move a box fan, but there still isn't room, so I have to try and shift my bed and a large (but low) bookcase as well. A lot of work. When I get under the table, I find several bits of the 'stuff' that has fallen, including a couple that have been down here for months and are covered in dust. I decide I'm not going to try and swallow those, and throw them away.

As I come back out from under the desk, Rosemary is bugging me to clean my room ... I just did, woman! I need to go to the bathroom, but as I am walking up to it, there is a handyman walking out. He has a sign on the door showing he is working on the toilet, so it is not available. I figure I will use the other restroom, but when I walk to the door of it, is is nothing but a huge hole in the floor. For some reason they seem to have removed the entire bathroom.

Walking back to ask Rosemary about this, I find the dogs have been stuck inside, and in the last two minutes they have virtually covered the floor in dog poop. Yuck! Nothing but problems and fails in this dream!
