Lucid #256: The Swim to Sin City

I’m standing at my kitchen again, looking out into the darkened back yard. This is so familiar… I remember that my last lucid dream began the same way. I perform a nose pinch reality check and now I’m lucid.

I phase through the exterior door to a nighttime scene in my back yard. The pool is here, but it’s been drained dry. I phase through the pool fence and stand at the edge. I recall (incorrectly) that OpheliaBlue is attempting to complete a dare to go swimming. I think, hey, maybe I’ll swim in a lucid tonight, she will too, and it’ll be badass synchronicity tomorrow.

I raise my hands from waist to shoulder height, knowing that the pool will fill back up with water. It does, and I’m super pleased. I try to play it cool and not be so shocked when dream control comes through. I dive into the water, happily swimming about and noting that the water feels quite real. After a bit, my vision fades, and I’m in the void. A few more seconds of swimming, then that sensation fades, and I start rubbing my hands together, determined to come into a new dream scene…

… I emerge back in the kitchen, then phase back through to the outside. Through the pool fence, back into the pool, and more swimming. After diving down a bit, my vision goes dark. I try not to worry about this, though, and just swim forward as hard as I can. I go for a while before the swimming sensation dims a bit. Soon I feel some kind of hard surface and find myself…

… standing on a table in a Las Vegas casino, next to some kind of big, blocky control box. To my left, there’s a man sitting at a slot machine. He pulls the handle and I decide to make his day and get him a jackpot. Quarters start pouring out of the machine and the man dances with excitement. A man in a suit (a casino employee, I guess) points at me, looking annoyed, then points at the big control box that I’m standing next to. I have strange thoughts where I contemplate whether my dream powers actually affected this control box and not the slot machine directly.

My lucidity’s starting to fade a bit, and then I see a young boy in the lobby ahead, throwing up into a trash can. There’s a frazzled-looking man attending to him, and the man shouts that he’s not the boy’s father and who left this kid here? This additional distraction
costs me my lucidity. I jump down off of the table to go help out. I spend a while wrapped up in the dream plot of trying to find this kid’s parents until the dream ends.

Wow! Cool way to get lucid: "Oh, I usually get lucid here so +1"
And congrats on your excellent dream control through all the dream, including your famous "void mastery"

CL, great dream control! Sounds like a great experience, especially swimming in the pool. I also think it's interesting that your desire to help other people caused you to lose lucidity. Hopefully you found that kid's parents

@Bharmo - Thanks, man! I was quite fortunate that these kitchen dreams were back to back! You know, it's funny... your comment reminded me that my first two lucid dreams ever also featured major portions in my kitchen. I suppose it would suit me just fine if this became my new launching site!

@ThreeCat - Thanks, I appreciate the compliment, ThreeCat! I go through ups and downs in dream control, so I always appreciate when things seem to mostly work out the way that I hope they will.

Yeah, it was interesting that this distracted me enough that I forgot about my lucidity. It seems like I can concentrate on being lucid and then one other thing, max. If I get involved with one other thing, it seems that it may be a little harder to hang on! More practice (and maybe a continuous mantra!) will hopefully help with that!

That was a great idea! Giving a dream figure a gift. @ the annoyed dream figure.

More praise on the dream control and recognising your recurring location!

It's so cute that you wanted to make that guy's day.

I wonder what Ophelia dreamt of that night... did you ask?

@Tihiti - Ha ha, thanks, and agreed on the annoyed dream figure! Don't forget who this casino realy belongs to, pal!

@Dreamer - Thanks so much! There's just something about impressing DCs that I just can't resist, ha ha...

You know, I checked with Ophelia and no, unfortunately she didn't have any water-themed dreams! She did try to incubate one the next night but I don't think that anything came of it.

Well done recognizing the dream as the same location of your previous ld! This reminded me of those to do experiments where one learns to recognize DS from past dream experiences and in-dream incubations. The swimming void back to the pool experience was like a version of the groundhog day movie.

Loved the ka-ching part at the casino! Awesomely done!

You're right, Nyx! Considering that the kitchen scene (which I Groundhog Day'd myself back into) was already a repeat from the previous LD, it does seem very helpful for cementing that as a dreamsign / LD starting point. If that becomes my new lucid start point, fine by me! Close to a door and a refrigerator full of food!

And thanks! I enjoyed giving out the big payday, ha ha...

Sweet swim to sin city!! Some of my favorite lucid transitions have been from the water!! Congrats on the lucid and the jackpot! Commotions and controversies have pulled my lucidity from me before as well...

Oh you've had those lucid transition from water too? I hadn't remembered that! I always wonder whether this is something I've read and just forgotten or if it's in a chunk of your DJ that I've never read.

Thanks, I find that I can get really pulled into these stories once they start throwing a lot of different elements at me, particularly ones involving immediacy, urgency, emotion, danger, etc. A couple of those at once and if I'm not careful I'm back riding the train-tracks of the dream plot.

Yes A number of times that I have used Sensei's closed eye teleport I will imagine my ideal beach but often find myself floating in the ocean instead. The ocean/water starting point led to my grassy sea lucid where it felt like I was exploring my childhood "eyes" when everything was more fascinating and brought me back to a time when I could have fun creating a whole world under a bush. Water also led to my alien beach lucid and I hold both of those LD's very dear to my heart. It makes me wonder about the significance of water in my psyche.

      So true!
