Lucid #242: The Return of the Rabbit

I’m riding in the back of a Suburban with several of my business partners. “PM” is the man behind the wheel and we’re driving slowly around a dirt loop, listening to the soundtrack from the video game that we’re working on. The music for our battle scene concludes and breaks into a slower section.

There’s a new part, a soft solo of a guitar-like stringed instrument that I’ve never heard before. It's beautiful! PM turns back to say, “I thought this part sounded fucking badass.” I enthusiastically agree that the new music sounds “all badass”. PM’s driving very erratically but not very concerned about it. I become semi-lucid, noting that this is probably a dream. I start laughing when he plows right over a stop sign
and now I’m sure that this is a dream. PM is laughing too, and stops the car.

We all get out and there are several of the guys here, PM, “Leroy”, and probably “Z” as well as maybe more. I put my hand on PM’s upper back/shoulder and kind of massage it, wanting to stay really connected to the dream. “Hey man,” I say, “this is a lucid dream. This is the first time that you've been in one of these with me. I’m really happy you’re here!” I feel very happy to have these guys here with me and I enjoy the swell of positive emotions. I tell PM that I’ll do my best to remember the new parts of the song and that I wonder whether he’ll remember them too.

We walk down a dirt path through some trees and night falls quickly. We’re moving through an industrial area by the water and I think that I’d like to summon Dreamer. I look down to see that there are 4 shadows in the group. Must be me, PM, Leroy, and Z? I hold out my left hand, imagining that Dreamer will take hold of it. I feel something vaguely like a hand, then look down again to see a fifth shadow (in a dress!) holding onto my hand.

I look over and Dreamer is standing next to me! Her hair is blond rather than purple now and very short, the bangs bluntly chopped almost in the form of a bowl cut. She’s just wearing a shirt and some kind of pants, though, not a dress. We smile at each other. “Hey guys, this is…” and then attempt to introduce Dreamer several times. I’m mortified that twice in a row I completely goof her waking life name before finally getting it right. I feel awful about this, very embarrassed.

The guys continue ahead and Dreamer and I walk just behind, coming to an abandoned wharf. I recall that we had recent, very specific plans for this dream (to try to heal one another’s sniffles, ha ha…) I ask her whether she remembers and she replies, but I have a hard time understanding her. I move really close to Dreamer’s face, trying to understand her or read her lips or anything, but it’s not working. For a moment I wonder whether there was a kissing task, but no, that wasn’t it, maybe that was someone else’s lucid dare. (Correct, actually -- this was a dare that Dreamer completed a while back!) I quit focusing on her lips and on this mumbling problem, assuming that her speech will sort itself out if I just quit worrying about it.

As we walk further along the water, we talk about how nice it is to just stroll through the dreamworld. I tell her that I’m glad that we’re getting to hang out in such a stable dream and how relaxing this is. I feel peaceful and happy, which reminds me of the patronus task. I tell Dreamer that I want to try the patronus and she moves close to wrap me up in a hug. I extend my right arm and she places her left hand under my wrist, almost to support it. I tell her that I feel super happy in this dream and that I think the patronus is going to be easy! She enthusiastically agrees.

Immediately, pulses of blue energy pour out of my fingers and float to the ground in a big ball. And now scampering along the ground near our feet is my bunny patronus. “Oh, he is cute!” says Dreamer. As he hops around, the bunny turns from a blue, glowy patronus into a real bunny. He hops further along the wharf. Dreamer grabs my hand and pulls me along to follow him. We follow him for a while through an old, crumbling breezeway until
    the dream ends.

Sorry, I know there was a lot of "poolanning" about another kind of patronus, but this dream proves your patronus is definitely a rabbit. You can always turn it into a super-killer-bunny if you need it
Now, I'm super excited to know if you remember that new track for your soundtrack! Do you?

Ha ha, "poolanning", nice one! Yes, I'm inclined to agree! It looks like I'm a "bunny patronus" guy rather than a "giant turd patronus" kind of guy after all, heh heh...

And yes, as you so astutely pointed out, the Legend of the Holy Grail teaches us that a bunny patronus is not to be taken lightly!

I wish I could say that I remembered it better, but my memory of it has grown sooo hazy! I was telling PM about the dream today and how I wish that I could remember the new track better!

Dreams contain so many wonderful things that I just wish we could take back with us.

Including that tune from your dreams in your video game would had been awesome.
      Congrats on this super-dream, anyways!

Amazing dream! You are a very advanced dreamer.
Can you remember the music in your dream? I remember once having a dream in which Tori Amos was singing the most badass song imaginable (a song she has not recorded in waking life), but when I woke up I could not remember the tune. I was very disappointed.

@dreambh - I know, man! I was commiserating with the guys at the office today about the fact that I couldn't bring the tune back with me! If only!

@Delenn - Thanks for the kind words, Delenn! I can remember the unique sound of the stringed instrument that performed the solo, but unfortunately I only have the most vague idea of what the melody was.

Your Tori Amos dream sounds great! Very very similar in fact. Isn't it cool that your head can produce this amazing Tori Amos song on the fly, presumably in an excellent replica of her voice and piano style, and all in real-time? It would be great to be able to grab onto those and bring them back with us from the dream world.

You know, the tune for the classic Beatles' song "Yesterday" came to Paul McCartney in a dream. Fortunately, he managed to get straight to a piano and play it!

I'm so glad we finally got to do the patronus task together!
And dreambh is right, I suppose I will have to concede that your patronus really is a bunny, not a giant turd.
This just means I will have to double my next prankubation efforts!
Did I tell you about the bunny I met on the road trip? I might have spoken about it in that voice recording, I can't remember. I posted a photo in my holiday album on facebook if you wanna see him!
EDIT: LOL, that bunny emoticon seems really inappropriate... Just imagine he's a cute smiling bunny instead!

Haha, that's hilarious that you couldn't remember my name! I told you about the time that happened to me in waking life, right? Not with you, but with my boyfriend at the time! How does that even happen!? Haha, my memory is ridiculous sometimes.

I love hearing original music in dreams! I've heard some really cool stuff in both lucid and non-lucid dreams.
Too bad you couldn't remember it for your game. Maybe you could try asking a lucid dream to play it for you again sometime?

Congrats on another amazing dream, and thanks for summoning me!

      Congrats on the ld!

So cool you got to summon your patronus again and there was consistency in the results. Really fascinating!

Next ld: follow the white rabbit!

Me too, that was a lot of fun! Thanks for the assist!

Oh cool! I did a quick check and failed to find the bunny! I'd love to see it, though, so maybe I'll hit you up later for an assist in finding it! And lol at the pelvic-thrusting bunny smiley. My patronus was definitely not behaving like this bunny!

Ha ha, I do remember that story! That is so funny! I felt really bad about forgetting at the time (and still kind of do.) My excuse has to be that waking life memories just don't always connect the way that they should in dreams. I'm 100% sure that this would never ever happen IWL!

Ooh, great idea! I will put that on my lucid to-do list! It's got to be in there somewhere, right? And if it's not, then I'm sure that the dream can give me something cool again.

Hey!! If you just got to follow that rabbit to its hole and see where it lead, you could be able to complete an advanced task from around 2008!!! Nice one, definitively you encouraged me to perform this patronal task once more to be sure if mine is that erratic eagle once and for all.

What a great experience, all around! Good job on the patronus conjuring- it sounds like a fun task. That would be fun to see where the rabbit leads you- great idea!

Ha ha, no kidding?? I didn't know about that one, Box, nice! Have you been doing Tasks of the Month all the way since 2008? That's really cool. No wonder you've got lucid skillz.

Are you still thinking about doing the patronus task again? I'd love to see what you get this time! I honestly didn't know what my result would be. And I'm not saying that you'll get the poo-tronus that Dreamer tried to bring into my dream world.

Thanks, darknightedlady! It's definitely a fun task. The tasks are consistently so good these days. And I say this as somebody who never comes up with any of them, ha ha...

Agreed! I definitely want to try out that cool rabbit idea! It's fun to follow the dream's lead just a bit while still retaining your lucidity.

Poo-tronus!!!! Nice one. I'd give it a try if I've already done some other goals first. That one of the rabbit, actually was the last one task I followed that year because of back then I had my very first DEILD which started in a huge park, and I was like: I must find a rabbit and follow it to its whole and... Hey... those trees look amazing!! What's that?? A dog the size of a horse!! There's a Hospital at the end of the park... let's see... rabbit... rabbit... to hell with the rabbit!! I want to see what's inside that hospital... and then I completed a task of the previous month that I wanted to do turning on a TV, went crazy with the result but got no wings for that. After that I didn't pay much more attention until recently that I decided to participate again...

Ha ha, it's so funny the way that goal memory works sometimes and those old tasks (which you may have even struggled to remember before) come easily to you once they're no longer wingable. I often catch myself thinking of other people's goals, dares, etc. that I might have read recently in the dream journal section.

Ah well, it's all good practice and all good fun.

It's really cool that you've been here since '08, man, respect! I'm really glad you decided to come back to Task of the Month the past few months!

Thanks!! Well, my entrance wasn't exactly on a red carpet. It was something more like getting in a mosh pit trying to sell hot dogs if you know what I mean. Back in the days I didn't know what was exactly a "social" network Actually, it was the first social network that I was taking part!!! I didn't understand why all my friends were going crazy in the chat rooms when there was so much to learn on the web. It doesn't mean that I wasn't ever in a chat room messing around with other people around the world but it was long ago with something called IRC or anything like that Anyway, it's a step forward and I hope to find some of you in the chat room some day in the future
