    Lucid #249: Long Shot

    I’m hanging out with Dreamer in a sparsely-decorated apartment. She’s wearing a dark jumper with the hood pulled up over her head. We’re joking around and coming up with silly games and dares. Dreamer comes up with a really really crazy one that gets us laughing. Warning: It is pretty gross!

    ... I become lucid. I feel sleepy and out if it, and I tell Dreamer that I’m really happy to have become lucid so soon after going to sleep, but that I feel really groggy. We both stand up and Dreamer is super tall, easily 7 feet. We talk for a bit, my brain moving slowly during the conversation. Her accent is entirely American during the conversation, which strikes me as one of those strange details that I figure will work itself out.

    I finally remember my intent to do the “play a musical instrument that doesn’t exist in waking life” task and ask Dreamer if she has an instrument for me. She says, “Well, I have this violin!” She produces a violin from out of nowhere and somehow plays a few notes with no bow. Now she plucks 3 notes pizzicato.

    I tell her that this is cool but that we need to have an instrument that doesn’t exist in waking life. I know that I should be able to flow into the task from here but I feel really slow-witted. I get a little confused what to do next, and Dreamer walks up to me (still enormously tall) and wraps me in a hug. Since I don’t know what to do anyway, I just stay still for a moment and enjoy this. After a bit, I get the sensation of falling asleep, and …

    … I emerge in a false awakening in the same room. Dreamer isn’t here, but I have a vision of her sitting on the edge of a table with a model train set on it. In this mental image she’s wearing the same trackies and dark jumper from the previous part of the dream, but now she seems to be her normal height. I wander around the apartment, eventually finding the table, but Dreamer isn’t there. The     dream ends fairly quickly after that.

      LOL, this dream is so hilariously gross! I'd probably go there though, I'm not one to turn down an embarrassing challenge! (Speaking of which, I owe you an atrocity photo still, don't I!?)

      I love that you've taken on all these Australian terms - I see jumper and trackies appearing regularly now, on top of heaps, sunnies, zed, and whatever else you might've picked up along the way. Now you just have to stop dropping the 'i' from aluminium and you're all set...

      My accent is usually spot on in your dreams, isn't it? It's funny that I had an American accent this time.
      That reminds me of something I was meaning to tell you about anotherdreamboat! I'll message you after this.

      Man, you got sooo close to completing the instrument task! Next time you will get it for sure!

      I hate that groggy feeling in dreams! You feel completely confused, tired, and out of it. I've had it both in LDs and NLDs.

      Congrats on the lucid! I hope that the task goes better for you next time!

      @Dreamer - Ha ha, I know, it was totally gross! I'm sad to say that this dream pimple's real-life counterpart has faded without incident so the opportunity for this sync-up has passed. And yeah, it's definitely atrocity time! And you've had heaps of time to think of some terrifying new challenge, so I may be in trouble.

      That's really funny about "aluminium" by the way! Z and I were just discussing aluminium this morning because... why was that? Oh right. LOL. We were discussing the pros and cons of shaving one's pits and how this relates to aluminium-based deodorants.

      Thanks for getting me so far along on the instrument task! If I'd only rolled with what you gave me, I know that we'd have gotten it. I should post this one, you're right... this was actually decently close!

      @Krista - Thanks! And yeah, I'm with you on the grogginess! I don't know if it's actual tiredness or what it is, but it's certainly aggravating. One of these days I'll have to try going to sleep within the dream, attempting to WILD teleport to some new location. See whether I can reset things that way. Basically, I'm just curious whether it's all in my head or if this is truly some strange brain state that makes certain types of thought more challenging than usual in LDs.

      Wow, you really are on fire these days, congrats!

      I have to admit that your dare was so gross I only read half of what was written there.

      Not easy to produce a new instrument, but you were definitely in the right direction. An interesting part with the slow thinking and feeling tired. There have been lds where I have felt super sluggish and indeed very tired. Makes you wonder if it's one of those simulated or real things.

      Thanks, Nyx, I appreciate that! Ha ha, if it helps any, nothing gross actually materializes in the 2nd paragraph. It's mostly about defensive measures after that first bit. :chucle:

      So that's happened to you as well with sluggishness, huh? I'm really contemplating now whether it's simulated or real as well. I'm going to go forward assuming that it's at least partly simulated, since that gives me a shot at fixing it!
