    Lucid #248: Zed

I’m at the office at night, talking to my friend “Z” about the game we’re working on. Z says something about how he’s getting a special financial arrangement worked out with his “partner”. Then I realize that he’s talking about his wife, and it seems strange that he said it this way. Then I notice that Z has hair when he normally keeps his head shaved all the time, and now I become lucid.

“Hey Z, I’m dreaming right now,” I say, standing up. I make some comment to him about how now he has hair and he chuckles. I continue: “Was there anything else that you wanted to tell me before I go?”

“Yeah!” he says, and fires up a projector that’s sitting on his desk, pointing it at the wall, and beginning a presentation about video game art design.

Even though she hasn't physically appeared yet, I say to Dreamer, “Hey, this is cool! You’re finally getting to meet [Z]!” I make the motion of draping an arm over Dreamer’s shoulder, thinking this might result in a summon. It feels sort of correct for a second, but then there’s nothing. Instead I imagine that she’s standing behind me. I hear a small shuffle of feet behind me. I decide not to push my luck just yet and instead watch a little more of Z’s presentation.

Z splashes up some cool screenshot with all of these effects that use additive blending. Then the next slide is some text, but it’s too unclear to read. Z starts hitting the side of the projector, trying to fix it. “Here, let me try,” I say. I make a square shape with the thumb and forefinger or each hand and “zoom” it in and out to focus the image. Now it’s sharp but the text is something odd that keeps changing.

I look out the window and notice that dawn is starting to break. My point-of-view moves out through the window, briefly flying over another part of the city before
    the dream ends.

I love that you're experimenting with different summoning techniques! I think it'd be great to have a whole range of summoning styles up our sleeves, to suit any occasion!

I also like that you've been interacting with your DCs more lately, asking them to show you things. I bet you could get some really cool content doing that sometimes!

Heee, you Australian-ified the title! It's funny, I actually read 'Z' as "Zee" in this case, because I used to have a friend with that nickname (I guess it's a catchier name than Zed!)

You're on fire with your LDs lately, keep doing whatever you're doing! (What are you doing?)

Thanks, I'm pleased that a little more variety is occurring to me. I think that's helpful because I have this tendency to get quite obsessed and hung up on one particular technique, which is really unnecessary and kind of limits creativity. The better I can flow, the better things seem to go with dream control.

Interacting with the DCs of people that I know in particular has always been a lucid activity I've had a lot of fun with. (I can think of a purple-haired example right now!) I have a few fragments and images from Z's presentation but I know that I lost a bunch of it too.

Ha ha, totally Australian-ified... That's funny that this is the one case where you don't use "zed", ha!

Thanks! My main practice is to look for the dream throughout the day (including a "look for the dream" inner mantra in those moments.) It's an easy and relaxing practice, which I think has helped me stick with it. On top of that, just having a lot of intent and getting a bunch of Skype-based encouragement, ideas, and help from my DVBFF.

Great catch on the hair change, CL!

Watching that presentation must have been awesome. It's so exciting to enjoy all forms of dream art, creations, projects, etc. I recall about a week ago, I was watching some sort of nld dream movie, where they told a very complicated cool disney-like story. (Too bad I don't recall much of it now).

Loved your idea to use your hands to fix the image.

Thank you, Nyx, I was pleased that I managed to catch that! And Z was pleased to hear that I'd dreamed he'd had a full, luscious head of hair, ha ha...

Your NLD dream movie sounds like a lot of fun! It seems that unless I wake up pretty soon after witnessing the work of art and had a good intent to remember it, I'll lose a lot of this content. I'm hoping that with practice I can carry more and more back with me. Dream recall is just such an important skill, one that helps in so many ways. (And one I have so far to go on!)

Thanks, the hand thing very much reminded me of your tricks for making a triangle shape with your hands to create a Great Pyramid! Do you remember when you were experimenting with this for a bit? As I recall it really worked well!

Yes, I love using the hands tech to help me accomplish dream goals. This tech is so versatile, comes in really handy and seems to produce nice results most of the time. Maybe we finally have a case of positive schema infection by constantly reading about it in each other's entries.

Yay positive schema infection! I think that I get heaps of positive schema infection from reading so many of the dreams here. Seeing how many different ways that you and other people successfully solve problems is a great reminder of how rich the possibilities are. And then sometimes ideas like this come back to you just as you need them!

Nice zoom effect... like a touchscreen. I keep telling myself to try this but I always forget.

Yeah, definitely try it! I think that all of the touch-zooming and pinch-zooming we're all used to from the devices that have taken over our lives in the past 6 or 7 years has permanently changed the way that we think about visuals. All of that stuff just feels so intuitive and natural now that you can even bust it out in a dream without really thinking much about it.
