    1. Jules in Bangladesh

      by , 12-01-2015 at 07:39 PM
There's a party full of drunk and pretty people I've gotten caught up in; it's being held in the honor of someone I don't really know, and when a group splits off for the private party, I go with them. The door closes behind me and Jules. Jules is dead sober - I'm not - and he doesn't look amused.

I'm talking to him about the person I've been trying to meet up with, a guy who's meant to be part of this group of party people somewhere; I'd first met him in a cell in Bangladesh, where I'd been trying to track down a particular object. I'm trying to stir Jules' memory of that time, but he just nods, goes yeah, yeah - he's annoyed.

He says, "Was I shot?" in a tone that suggests this happens frequently, and is probably my fault.

"In the left arm," I tell him.

He looks at the fingers of that arm, and I see a mental image of the neck of a stringed instrument. The implication is that getting shot affected his ability to play. Jules says, less annoyed now, "I do remember that one."
    2. Tithe to hell

Two women are speaking. One of them, the only human in this dream, has made a deal to trade places with someone. But it's being explained to her now that the person she's traded places with was fated to die at a certain age; they were to be what's referred to as the tithe to hell. That's now her job. At 24, she's already past that age.

The woman explaining this to her sounds amused at her situation, but she resents the tithe to hell itself - doesn't like having to submit to someplace else's authority. The human picks up on this resentment, and makes a suggestion. She believes that as a human, she can access the place they refer to as hell in a way that this woman can't; there's something stored there that allows that place to hold authority here. If she could reach it, there'd be no need for the tithe. It's unlikely to work, but still an intriguing offer.

Scene change. The human's standing at the back of a line passing through a small gate in a rock tunnel. The other people here are goblin-like creatures, and she's wearing the same type of clothes as theirs for a disguise, along with an eyepatch - the eyepatch is important because the people here all bear wounds proudly. Although the guard at the gate is familiar with most of the people passing through, talking like they're old friends, he apparently isn't bothered by a stranger's presence; he waves her through without a second look.

Listening to a song with the line, "I ran away from my vows."
    3. Old wounds

There's a woman who's been unknowingly designated to play the role of Mary. (A reference to Mary Vetsera and/or Mary Kelly - the point is that she was remembered for her death, and that a certain amount of time has passed since, so it's time for events to repeat themselves.) She'd been running from a stranger with a knife, found a friend of hers to help her, and they've wound up barricading themselves inside a room. Due to a struggle at the door, the stranger's knife wound up on the floor inside the room with them. But the stranger wasn't the threat here - he was trying to help her. I'm in the POV of the thing possessing her friend, though possession in this case means only a certain amount of influence over his thoughts - he's the one fated to kill her.

There's a man, a servant, who I made immortal a long time ago. He came to resent me, so I sent him away to the household of a woman I'm close with. From her letters, I believe that's worked out well for them both. I'm staying with her at the moment, and he's showing me something I hadn't realized before - the wounds he had when I made him immortal never healed. The pain is very minor, but it never goes away.
    4. cuts and gashes

I was in my kitchen showing my mom two new tattoos I had got on my arms. I realize I have deep cuts, burns and glass deep in my flesh. Some of my skin was peeling back off the wounds, exposing my muscles and tendons, blood was squirting from cuts in my hands, and I could see shattered bones protruding from my elbow. I asked my mother if I should go to the hospital, and she said, "No, you'll be fine", and folded some of the skin over to cover my injuries and pulled some colorful shards of glass out of my skin. By this time, I could feel the sensation of burning and stinging up my arms. I end up going to the hospital, and walk into the check in room, and I see a lot of people sitting waiting. I approach the glass window that is shielding the nurse from the waiting room, and show her my hand that is still squirting blood and ask her if I can see a doctor. She gives me a blank stare and says, "You should go home and let it bleed out." At this point, I am kind of shocked that the woman refused to help me, so I lifted my sleeves to show her the rest of my cuts. I say " I need a doctor, I need stitches." and the room erupts with applause and cheer.

Here I am woken up by my little sister, and I vaguely feel the stinging and burning I felt in the dream.
