    Chimpanzee Terror

I had a mini nightmare last night. I don't have nightmares very often. And when I do they are often sort of similar.

In the dream I had gone outside from what was supposed to be my house. I heard my cat meowing. It sounded like she was in distress. The sound came from the roof. I looked up-- and suddenly this huge chimpanzee leans over the edge of the roof and looks right at me.

I was so startled and freaked out that I tried to scream, but all I could do is breathe heavy. I also wanted to run, but I was frozen in place. The terror lasted about 15-20 seconds before I woke up.

I have had other dreams very similar to this. Often it is a bigfoot that comes out of the woods and stares at me. I'm always frozen with terror and trying to scream but all I can manage to do is just breathe hard.

Did you have your nightmare snowpants on?

Just out of curiosity, are you afraid of chimps/monkeys/apes IWL? Or is it only a recurring nightmare in your dreams?

It seems to be just a dream thing. I have no problems with monkeys etc in real life. I'm not sure what causes these little dream terrors. They are usually right as I am going to sleep or waking up, so maybe there is some real sleep paralysis going on, along with that scary feeling. Not sure.

I was just curious because I have a similar recurring dream, though the theme being in a body of water with big waves crashing on me, drowning, and being unable to come up for air. (It is not something that, IWL scares me at all (in fact I love the water.))

What do you suppose causes these recurring nightmares of things we do not consciously find scary?

That's a good question. I hadn't really given it a lot of thought before. I suppose it is scary for things that we normally like to suddenly be threatening. There is the betrayal factor. It makes for a good nightmare.
