Of course everyone is going to say writing things down is the best way to do it. I am going to say the same thing, but I want to go into a detailed explanation of a good way to write it down. Just writing your dreams down is not enough. You should do a complete analysis of your dream. I am going to create a few easy steps for you to have a detailed look at your dream. I am not saying you should always or have to do this. I am just making a suggestion that will hopefully benefit you in dream recall. I recommend two separate journals separating steps 2 and 3 from 5 for organization.
1) If you cannot think of your dream look around the area you are in. look for something you think is familiar from your dream. If you see a connection or sense something when you see an object focus on that object and think all of the things that are related to it and it should hopefully create a memory of what you have dreamed.
2) Think of the main ideas about your dream you can remember and write them down. Don't write it like a book. Do it in the - form
I.E.
- There was a clown
- I ate popcorn
- My sister pulled my pants down
- I rode a big elephant
When you remember all of them put them what you think is the right order of events when each idea happened. Basically order them by the time it happened in the dream. This should create smaller details to come back to you. If it does not think about what happened right before you went to sleep. Think about what happened when you almost closed your eyes and then start thinking about your dream from there.
3) Write your dream down like a story right after that. Do not look at what you wrote down. This needs to come from your memory. Include your actions, thoughts and feelings. Only add the things you know you did. Do not try to add anything you think might of not happened or you will cheat yourself of your real dream. You can discern the difference yourself by thinking is that what happened or is it what I want to have happened.
4) Cross examine your idea and written portion. Look for similiarities and differences. If you have any differences you should recheck your writing. Fix things that don't agree and just don't seem right.
5) Write a final draft of your dream. Look at your (hopefully) corrected notes and make a real written portion of your dream.
6) Read over everything carefully looking for any last mistakes.
Voila. You have made your first dream entry with these 6 easy steps. I hope this has helped and made you chose a different method that would work you. Once again I do not say you have to do this, but you should just consider it. I do not guarantee results, but I think it should at least give you a better understand of yourself and how you dream.
