If it could be tweaked to arouse you during REM we've got ourselves a lucid dream machine. Should be far less intrusive than a Nova Dreamer and I've heard it should sell for about GBP 100.00. I think I'll e-mail them and suggest it. :lol:

I will have to look through the New Scientist magazine to look for some images, sounds cool, but the site doesnt have any pictures :( (lol).

I was thinking about building my own Dream Machine about 6 months ago, this might inspire me to start building it.

Found a cool site that explains how to make them etc.

You would still need goggles of some kind so that it would flash lights in your eyes :(

Thats a cool idea. I would love to design a dream machine to use 'during sleep' with a pair of goggles with flashing lights etc. I was thinking about electronics at fitst but its not one of my strong areas :( i didnt do very well in electronics in school (lol).

The one i was thinking about sits next to your bed, you use it for meditation an hour before sleep - it spins around with different colours (from red, green, yellow, purple etc) and it projects them onto the walls (kind of like a light ball you get from shops).

You could listen to relaxing music while looking at the machine.

I've posted about this before. I had to tweak the code a bit to increase sensitivity. After all that work only got to sleep once with it on because it was too intrusive. Would really love a brainwave detector with small electric shock to arouse you. No flashing lights or face mounted eye detectors etc. A simple head mounted device would be easier to sleep with. Maybe one day I'll get around to it. At the moment the WBTB method seems to work better than all these gadgets. :roll:

it wouldn't need goggles, it measures when you are in a light phase of your sleep, say medium-theta, then it wakes you up then. Cool concept.

dectomax - could you possibly share your new kvasar software or explain how you tweaked it? i never got it to work right, it picked up eye flutters, but not the subtle rem movement, and toying with the trimmer didn't help much at all... i even changed the positionning of the ir sensor and it didn't do much (except for breaking my pins)...

also, did you use the s4810 or the sharp/honeywell sensors?

and related to the clock, it seems more and more people are interested in alternative REM detection... I'd be a bit afraid of small shocks delivered to the brain area, over long periods of time this may have nasty side effects. Though EEG/EDA are (it would seem) good ways of detecting REM.

If anyone knows electronics and wants to help we're trying to build a mask (or glove using vibrations) using EDA (or GSR as it's more commonly known). We figure once we know if EDA is more reliable than IR sensors, the functionality of the mask can be changed and adapted and developped on, but we need to start with the basics, right?... Anyway, go to the research forum for that and maybe together we can figure something out (my electronics skills being limited)
