Old threads are not deleted because they are the heart of the forum, in a sense. Deleting the old stuff makes everything that's "going on" in the present, and it helps to not develop a community or any inside jokes. Because, before you know it, whee, there goes your post and you've only got like ten active threads and really there isn't as much to do.

Also it means the "Search" button, where you can search the expanses of knowledge here, becomes useless and so we would probably wind up answering the same questions over and over again. The real centerpeice of a forum is it's history, IMO.
