I love Marvel... in fact I had no D.C. Comics at all, none would interest me. Recently though I have discovered Preacher.... Oh my freakin' God!!! :o So for now my pick is D.C. I think all of Marvels' characters kick ass, but The Saint of Killers would just annihilate whoever stands on his way.

Ooh. Tough question. As far as characters are concerned, I lean more toward Marvel. As far as companies go, though, I go for DC. Marvel tends to not get their stuff out on time. Also, Marvel will not fill reorders for an issue.

What that means is this: As a comic shoppe, you order, say, ten issues of Spider Man. You get ten issues and put them on the rack. They sell out in two days. Because of Marvel's policy, you cannot reorder, thus you a: are missing out on sales, and b: pissing off a lot of fans. I understand why they're doing this. They want to increase the collector value of their books. That's nice and all, but comics are meant to be read. That's sorta the point. And if an avid reader of your book can't get a copy of your book consistantly, you lose a customer.

That's probably a little deeper than you intended to go with this, but I used to work for a comic shoppe. A lot of the time, I had to deal with the comic companies directly, so that would influence my choice in the matter. I even got the chance to have dinner with some of the Marvel reps. :) Anyway, I think Marvel would be much better if they got their stuff out in a timely manner and allowed for reorders. Marvel has grown a lot over the past few years, with titles like Alias and Nick Fury. The stories are far more mature then they were ten years ago.

So I suppose Marvel wins out for me in this. Aside from those two companies, I favor CrossGen. They put out quality books (great artwork AND storyline) and they do so consistently. Right now I'm dirt poor, so I can only keep up with one of their titles: Sojourn. It is amazing work. I highly reccommend it.

By the way: Preacher is one hell of a book. Heh. No pun intended.

DC definately.

I became burned out on Marvel by the way they always seemed to focus on mutant books and characters.

Oh yeah!!!!! Manga owns the American stuff. That's all I buy anymore...

But it used to be DC, since that's all could ever find lurkering in my cousin's room and I am a BIG Batman fan....I've read Marvel, but there are too many superheros to my liking and that makes it harder to associate with the characters.
