View Full Version : Looking into A mirror

I'd like to find out what other people see when they look into a mirror. I was "floating" down a hallway and passed by a mirror, quickly realizing that it would pose a wonderful opportunity to see what I looked like.

As I was returning to face the mirror directly, I hypothosised that I would not see anything; however, I was wrong. I saw my general features, but stretched out exactly like Alfred E Newman from Mad Magazine.

Since then, one of my reality tests is to look down at either my feet or hands. If I'm dreaming, they're are always similarly distorted.

i dream of looking in mirrors fairly often, especially recently. and, yes, the image is always distorted in some way. once half my face was all swollen and bloated. another time my skin was blue. in yet another dream my hair was much, much longer than it actually is. come to think of it i should really start recognizing this as a dream sign. as of yet, i've only achieved one lucid dream. it was a few weeks ago and haven't been able to have another yet.

I had one LD right before I was going to get my hair cut short, and I was unsure if it would look good or not. so I knew I was dreaming, and decided to cut my hair. it....didn't work too well let's just say...um..like if I would blink, I'd see reflection blink seconds later, there was a delay. You know what I mean? and one other time I looked at my reflection in on a cooler, like a big drink cooler. I looked like my little sister X_X

Im wondering if this mirror this is a girl thing. I have never been into mirrors. But im going to definately try it because i want to see what is going to happen to me. Have any of you ever been invisible to others its way cool.

i'm not sure it's a girl thing - looking into mirrors. i actually read that it's quite uncommon for people to see themselves in mirrors period. but that was just one person's assessment. the difficult thing about researching dreams is all the conflicting information.

I read on one lucid dream website to look into a mirror and try to pass through it. When I passed through it what was infront of it was behind it.

I read the same internet thing about passing though a mirror. That same article said that most people see themselves as distorted. When I looked in a mirror (I've only done it once) I looked exactly the same except when I smiled my image didn't smile as much and it was delayed like yours paperdoll. Also, when I frowned, my image didn't change at all, I looked expressionless.

When I look at my hands they look wavy and psychadellic.

Last night i was dreaming. I found my self at some girls apartment. I was fully lucid and remembered to look at a mirror. I walked down the hall from the living area and turned left into a bathroom. Sure enough it was a mirror. And there i was clear as day. At first my face was normal it looked just like me in a mirror in a wake state. I then started to smile and change my face. The image in the mirror changed at a slower rate then i was moving then started to distort and look not so clear. I didnt find the mirror very exciting.

I didnt remember to try and walk through it maybe next time.

I was more interested in having sex with the girl.

makes sense...I'd think it was weird if you dicided to have sex with the mirror instead

I treid this last night...I too was distorted. I took the opportunity to do a reality check. I too was going down a hallway and past a large square mirror mounted to the wall. The fist time I looked at myself, I looked like a freaked out Whitney Houston...my hair a sticking up and wrangled. My skin color was changing from dark purple to a dark green color. I looked away and then back again (my reality check...it really freaked me out), and I saw myself for split second then the image started melting as being eatin by acid. By the way, I also tried to walk through it and couldn't. I stretched like metalic rubber. I couldn't break through. Has this happened to anyone else? I still can't believe I only read this idea about mirrors yesterday was able to remember it when I was dreaming last night.

I have tried only to walk through walls not mirrors. I have failed as well as suceeded, while lucid. I found that when you are confident and know its possible then you will slip right through the wall. If you test it and have any doubts you will find yourself trying to push through the wall LIKE A physical being and cant. I have not mastered any cool things like walking trhough walls or turning invisible but have had many experiences doing it.

I will try a mirrror when i get a chance.

A mirror, like all glass in my dreams, feels like water when I pass through it. When I look in a dream mirror I usually just see a transparent, shapeless form.

Looking at your appearance through a mirror is one thing, but have any of you frequent lucid dreamers seen yourself from a second point of view, as if looking at yourself from someone elses eyes? If yes, what happened?

wasup
10-12-2003, 05:27 AM
I'v seen myself in second person point of veiw in (at one point) possibly all (3) of my lucid dreams. I think it mostly only happens in low-level lucidity.

liquid
10-12-2003, 07:46 AM
what is low level lucidity?
what is high level lucidity?

wasup
10-12-2003, 07:51 AM
High level lucidity is when you have high control over your dream and at all times (depends on how high) you will be aware that you are dreaming. For example, in one of my dreams I kept on telling someone that it was all a dream, except that I couldn't do almost anything (that's more of a low level lucidity.

At low level lucidity you might not be able to fly or do a lot of things. Also, at certain points you forget that everything is a dream and that all you have to do is wish that you can do something. For example, in my first lucid dream, my senses weren't working, almost everything was impulse decision or I didn't even choose to do it, and everything was gray and I woke up very fast.

That's just a slight description; not very good. I'm sure someone will tell you better.

zwishenzug
10-13-2003, 04:14 AM
I've had that happen many times. It's like you're watching yourself doing thing. A sense of self from a third person point of view if you will. I assume it's common. I think it's the same as when your dream characters change, but a lot less common.

Nearly all my dreams are in third person. I've started to think it has something to do with all the pot I smoke.

last night i smoked a lot with a friend, ive been smoking more often now, maybe this post should be in the other thread, but when i smoke i find i either have a lot more dreams or i just rememeber them better. kind of wierd, but the last to times i slept after smoking i had some wonderful dreams, and about 1 minute after waking up they some how pop back in there. you know how when you dream but you dont know your had a dream until maybe hours into your day, wierd.

I must be the only one in this forum who has never smoked and never will. ...all the lucid dreamers I've met in the past were potheads. why. in another forum I ditched for that reason, all they said was weed this and weed that. this forum is not near as bad but still...what is up with that. :?

liquid
10-13-2003, 12:30 PM
there is a difference between a pot-head and the occasional pot-smoker.

nerve

Second Attention

It's just another substance, get over it. Do you drink coffee, eat sugar? What about nicotine, do you smoke, or drink beer? These are all just substances that are addictive and have some sort of mental or physical boost... don't condemn something you know nothing about...

Plus... we are referring to these substances in reference to dreaming, so, really, get over it... it's not like we're discussing brownie recipes or anything...

Yep I smoke on the occasion, why do it?

It changes your perspective, allows you to see differntly, I think if everyone in the world gave it a shot it would be a more undestanding place.

It also it helps you to see the MANY perspectives that bombard us every day in life, helps you to make desicions as you can separate your thinking say well what if this or whatabout that... now the people that smoke constantly, like every day... that has no point it becomes your normality and you lose that change of perspective.

Anyone taking serious the task of lucidity must try different 'drugs'

the problem with that statement is that [i][b]everything is a drug

everything

if one studies diet, nutrition, and how the body processes foods, they will find that certain 'normal' foods actually have high toxicity levels.

[the whole [color=red]DARE

the truth of the matter is that even the most common and familiar foods are potent, mind altering drugs.

Gluten, for example, is processed by the body into morphine.

So seriously now, WHY NOT TRY HERB Wtf!?!?

They advertise that 1/3 of all ppl who cause traffic accidents have weed in their system. THAT IS SO NOT EVEN FUCKING POSSIBLE.
I don't even know that many stoners. And the fact should be shamed by the fact that 99.999% of all ppl who are in accidents have anphetamines or methanphetamines in their systems.

I don't approve of usa lobbiest science

we should all respect ganja it should be a freedom

and most important, a bowl before bed is good for REM sleep

so prz, no hating on green. it is part of my religion and I take it quite seriously as an intricate part of my enlightenment and lucidity.

I say that everyone, at a certain age, when they are ready, should smoke consistantly for a year or so. the world would be a kinder more neutral and enlightened place.

<other drugs 4 the more advanced :P > peace Ja

While I don't see your point, paperdoll, about "why try it" I do agree that it sucks to talk about pot all the time on a dream forum. I'd only like to hear people's opinions about it in reference to dreaming.

nerve
10-15-2003, 12:45 AM
amen.

but really. I'm never going to try it. there is no point. I can live without it, so why even risk getting addicted?

Serinanth
10-15-2003, 02:45 AM
Because unlike tobacco it does not cause a physical addiction.
If youve a strong will and do not have a habitual nature than you wont get addicted...I do know some people who have those traits and sadly lost themselves... ended up smoking themselves retarded...

And...Because it may help you open your eyes just a little bit more *shrugs* thats just me...

/ranton/

at least they are starting to get the commercials closer to the truth...

I remember the one that went on about how drugs made you mean and angry like a monster... well I guess that was the harder crap, I dont know one pissy uptight pothead, all that I know are laid back..

The new ones where they go on that the smoker does nothing with his life is a bit closer, granted alot of pot heads do end up doing nothing, but all the ones I know are actually doing stuff with their lives.
Hell I smoke on occasion I graduated college in electrical technology and work for the largest semicunductor company in the world, just bought a house with a friend, and never get in trouble with the law.

Is this weed that has been smoked for thousands of years really the evil devlish life destroying drug that the Govenment has lead you to beleive? Simply put, No.. its not..

Oh yeah dont forget if you smoke weed you support terroism....I almost vomited at that comerciall....I want to make up bumperstickers....

"I dont support Terrorism, I grow my own!" and put like a pot leaf next to it..

The newest commercial I totaly agree with though, the bunch of people baking out a car take off and hit a little kid on a bike.. no smoking pot is not harmless and yes it does reduce your reaction time. I know this for a fact because I am never as good at Halo when im stoned, compared to being sober.
I am not quite sure what the governments deal is... if smoking pot is illegal
so should alchohol

... end of story...

Both have adverse effects on the body, one the liver the other the lungs, both on the brain... alchohol, is physically as well as mentaly addiciting, pot is only mentaly addiciting.
I think if pot were regulated like alchohol, things would be much better, the govt wouldent waste BILLIONS of dollars on a so called war when they could focus on improving the country in other ways an age limit could be set into place like alchohol, and the laws in place now for alchohol would work for pot too, get caught driving while under the influence bam, fine, jail time, you shouldent drive stoned... Bring it into work? bam fired...

Its not that difficult... I jsut dont get it..

Look at the plant for christs sake the buds are its flowers, they get sappy and resony but they arent brightly colored, they are sweet though. and smell good.. prehistoric humans start eating them... hey this plant makes me feel good, hell im gona start growing this... they find smoking it works too! and it keeps going, the plant was made for this... for us...

I duno why I get worked up over this... I guess its just all the lies everyone has been fed over the years. Just kinda irks me I guess.

Pot and to a lesser extent shrooms along with my life experience have made me to be the person I am, I am proud to be that person and would not change it.

Besides, If everyone smoked some bud every once in a while the world would be a lot calmer of a place...

*sigh* im just gona shut up now like I said I duno why I get all werked up bout this... guess because I smoke hehe
