Those of you that have been here for a while know about my trials and tribulations while trying to learn how to WILD.
Seems no matter how hard I try, it just doesn’t happen. Well, this morning was no different.
I slept for about 7 hours, got up, got my daughter off to school and my wife out of bed. I’ve been fighting a cold for the last few days, so I thought I would try to catch an extra hour or two of sleep. I crawled back into the nice warm bed.
By myself, just the perfect temperature, and no distractions. The wife was downstairs reading the paper. Nice and quiet. It was now or never, by gosh, this is the morning I am finally going to WILD.
I had my to do list ready and rehearsed in my mind, hmmm,. A little to late in the morning to work on dreamscaping, everyone is already up. Maybe… Yes, I’ll find a mirror and continue my work on dream forms.
Relaxed, oh man so nice, hypnogogic imagery was solid and the dream sequence was starting. I was slowly being drawn in, yes this time it was going to work.
*RING* - what????
*RING* - #%@$!!!!!
Ummm…elloooo?
“Dad”, wha???
“The bus broke down, can you come and take me to school??””
ummm, OK, give me time to get a shower…
I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND IT ALL!!!!!
There are only three conclusions I can come to. I’ll list them in order of increasing likeliness.
1. Seeker is just too stupid to ever figure it out.
Not likely, I’ve got all the good stuff that people have posted here. Anyone should be able to figure it out.
2. In a previous life, Seeker was a serial killer and has a 10,000 ton load of bad Karma he is carrying around. It will be 50 lifetimes before he has repaid his debt and is free to explore using WILD.
Hmm…maybe, but somehow, that doesn’t seem right.
3. The Gods are afraid Seeker will use his power for evil!
Hmmm… that’s got to be it!. But why would they think that? Has not Seeker always been ready to help a friend in need? Is he not polite and honorable? Has he not prayed and wept for friends that were facing difficult times? Why would the Gods be afraid to let Seeker WILD??? Think of all the good he could do!!!
Anyway, those are my thoughts as I start this morning.... :pissed:

You forgot one possibility: You might be on another probability-line than the rest of us. (In other words: you're just unlucky)

well you got to the hypnogogic imagery, that's really close. I think you can do it. er...just try MILD, it's easier. :-P lol...ok ok..I've only done WILD once. yeah and it was unintentional. well just keep at it. I know you can do it soon. and don't fret so much, that only makes it worse.
never FRET!

Hmmm... I get hypnogogic imagery all the time? It wont go away easily too, sometimes i'm in bed looking at the blurry shapes I Have to go to the bathroom... and when i'm there, in the light they're still there, but then instead of iluminating blurs in yellow or purple they're grey green dark blobs... but they do dissapear when I feel i'm going deeper into sleep...
Poor seeker :(!!! Will he ever master the method of WILD? Tune in next week, same channel, same time!

You know, if you just can't do WILD, don't waste energy. I found I sucked at getting it to happen, so I've decided to look at Astral Projection, and I find I do alot better at that instead of WILD's. Maybe it's just not for you, like it was for me (or perhaps the gods decided to pick on you) :D

The thing about a Wild Is the situation needs to be PERFECT. I mean good sleep status (so that you can easily see images) righ tmind set (wont think about anything else) right time (like the bus thing.. Its got to be a period here theres no interuptions.. and yes we all get unexpected interuptions) I've only goten it twice so far and only becasue I met all these things. Also you need to have just the right food/drinks (to keep you satisfied awake yet asleep) keep trying and good luck!!

I'm chilled. Hey, I've failed for three months now, what are a few more times going to hurt.
Glad I can get Lucid without WILD!

I just can't WILD. The only time I ever got Hypnagogic Imagery was completely on accident, and it shook me up so much that I completely woke up. I think my mind and body are too connected.

Trying to set up a perfectly comfortable, distraction-less situation is counter-productive in my opinion. I find I am more likely to WILD when I'm in slightly adverse conditions with a little bit of distraction to keep at least part of my mind fully awake during the entire process. Turn on the t.v. in another room so you can hear it but can't make anything out. That's what works best for me; that or when a conversation is going on somewhere else. Anything that I can hear but can't hear enough to actually make out and thus focus too hard on.

An alarm with a snooze button is great for practicing WILD. I have to press snooze for an hour before I can even get out of bed, so it's a good time to practice WILD multiple times. Unfortunately, it usually takes close to an hour for me to be aware enough to even know what the snooze button has to do with reality. I just have this vague sense the pushing it has something to do with stopping the noise that is bugging me. My eyes are always closed, and I am pretty much dreaming while pushing it. By the time I have any concept of what the snooze button really is, I am too awake to go back to sleep before the next alarm. But that situation makes the snooze button great for WILD practice and LD practice in general because it gives me an opportunity to practice sorting out mental chaos. The snooze button has helped me have a pretty good many WILD's, but I'm not having them every day yet. I am trying to get it in my head that the snooze button is a dream sign. The big problem with all of this is that the vast majority of my lucids happen just before I wake up when I sleep in and have gotten almost all of the sleep my body seeks. The only time I am a morning person is when I have been awake all night and it is morning.
EDIT: Good grief. I just noticed how old this thread is. The majority of it was posted before I was even a member here.

First of all, Universal Mind is right! This thread is from 2004! But since I'm here I might as well reply: Just don't give up. Keep trying. And next time... take you phone off the hook. :)

I know!! I kind of just selected an old thread at random and bumped it up 3 years.
I like the alarm clock idea, because they sometimes create a DILD for me. I will put the alarm on low volume (no snooze), and have the radio as the alarm. That way there is no annoying noise, but there is enough outside noise to raise my mind into that critical HALF DREAMING state. Half awake, half dreaming is what a lucid dream is. I found having somekind of outside stimuli is the best way.

Wow, what an ancient necro!! The best advice I can offer for all those trying to learn WILD is to keep on practicing, it will happen sooner or later :)

It may sound cowardly, but I've given up. If I try, I end up loosing precious sleep, and just be pissed off. I just feel too awake, and its really damn frustrating. A transition period is a stranger to me.
I'm afraid that I still don't understand WILD. Do you make a conscious effort to relax your body, or what? Every time I try to "be" conscious, I think about WILD, and I can open my eyes and be perfectly awake. Like I said before, the only time I made it to HI was completely on accident, and was a result of a racing-mind.
Freggin lame, guys.
