I saw this a while back and I thought it might help some of you that have difficulty understanding a universe with more than 3 dimensions(and you might learn to appreciate welding too). But, then again.....:shakehead2:

I usually use the method of limiting ourself to the second dimension and thinking about the possiblities. That is " I consider what will happen if we are living in a two dimensional world. Instead of this universe we will have a flat paper. Then we can think about the next dimension. 8)

If there is a 4th dimension...could there be a 5th?

Ofcourse. But the reply will make this thread very large and borring.

For the M theory, there are 11 dimensions.

All these extra dimensions are microscopic. So we need good knowledge in microphysics to understand them.

Read this wikipedia article if you are really interested. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why_10_dimensions)

Four? Five? Ten? Eleven?

Try at least around twelve googol (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=googol) dimensions or so.

Will explain and demonstrate with diagram later.

I find that stuff pretty interesting. From my background in math and physics, I've only had the chance to work on hyper space stuff a little bit. One of the more interesting things I've studied is the way space and time come together in Relativity.

One of my most vivid memories of Physics 201 was studying particle collisions where a meason (small particle) would whip around an accelorator close to the speed of light, and then decay into 2 photons (light). The trick was proving that a photon didn' t come backwards in time, hit the meason, thereby producing 1 photon to head forward in time at a different angle; or that 2 photons travelling backwards in time collided and formed a meason which travelled backwards in time.

In some schools of thought, Time-Space could be considered the 4th dimension.

Sorry... I'm a bit of a nerd 8) ...

There's a certain scifi book I've read when I was a kid. "Flatland", I believe it was called. A very interesting read. If you ever read it once, you'll never again have any difficulty whatsoever understanding a 4-dimensional world.

The book Flatland was mentioned in another book I once read about hyperspace. So when I saw Flatland in a bookstore I couldn't resist buying it. Really interesting stuff, and I agree:

That link is not coming up for me. Anyone else?
I have looked at other sites and know less than I did before I read them :P

Man I wish I could fully understand this stuff. Seems extremely interesting , I just don't have the pure brain power to grasp it. And I have not finished school yet either hopefully one day it will snap and make more sense to me.

This is, to me the best way to explain the fourth dimension. I am a more visual person. So pictures help
The Four Diagonals:

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7579/hyper33cn.th.gif (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyper33cn.gif)

1-5 Matter

2-6 Consciousness ]

3-7 Energy

4-0 Self-Organization

The fourth dimension is the home of the Complex numbers and Fractal geometry. Unlike the other dimensions, the fourth is the real world in which we live. It is the space time continuum of Man and Nature where there is constant change based on feedback. As Mandelbrot recently discovered the fourth dimension includes not only the first three dimensions, but also the gaps or intervals between them, the fractal dimensions.

Howetzer , im interested to see where you found information pertaining to the explaination of that diagram . Im confused what your trying to say with that diagram , you are postulating that along those particular lines are where such things as matter , conciousness , energy and self-organisation are located in space ?

From my limited amount of understanding of fourth dimension theory , a good way to get your head around it is to try and visualise a 4D object . The above diagram looks similar to the permutations of a 4D object viewed from a particular angle . Not sure what your trying to do by correlating things such as consciousness to a diagonal of an object .

http://members.aol.com/jmtsgibbs/draw4d.htm This is a good link ive found to be quite useful for visualising 4D objects . By viewing the permutations of the Hypercube , through rotating the cube along the 4th axis you can get some kind of visual representation to 4D objects displayed in a 3D representation . I suggest using the stereo method to simulate the hypercube floating in free space , revolving about its 4th axis . To see the object you have to use a cross-eyed method , similar to how u see magic eye pictures . Once you have it in 3D in freespace use the vertical sliders on the left to rotate and observe the permutations , and try to follow in space where each corner is changing to .

I think maybe the permutations of a hypercube is what that diagram you had was trying to show .[/url]

I found that this diagram to show things that are relative such as consciousness, matter and such to be easier to put into perspective for me.

Here Darkmatic, this is the link I used. Thank you for pointing out the space in information. I should have put the link here in the fist place because there is text that pertains to it's understanding.
http://www.fractalwisdom.com/FractalWisdom/fourth.html

I have tried visualizing the four dimensional box alone but could never grasp it. The link you gave, however has much more detail than I have seen before.
