View Full Version : Beer before bed

Last night I had just one bottle of beer before bed, and sleep through the night getting 8 hours sleep, and when I woke up I remembered having about 5 vivid dreams and the order I had them each in. That was the most dreams I remembered before. I wrote them all down.
Does anyone else find that having small amounts of alchohol before bed improves that night's dream recall?
Maybe it was just a coincidence or based on other factors that I had outstanding recall that night compared to other nights. I'll try another bottle tonight...

well I was pretty wasted last night, I went to a mates 18th best party ever, but recently I had been having a bit of a slump in my dream recall. Last night I remembered 2 dreams and a fair amount of each one

Yeah for some reason a night out on the piss makes me have very strange and vivid dreams, even if they are a little murky... I usually can't remember much when I wake up, but I love the whole feeling just as you're about to pass out... Maybe it's because you think things under the hazy influence of grog before you drift into sleep.. who knows.

As far as I know this is actually not a coincidence.
I read somewhere, can't remember where though, that alcohol consume before sleep sort of puts the REM phase on hold, storing the REM movements and the dreams for later sleep stages, where they all come together and consequently produce way more vivid dreams.
From my own experience I can confirm that I have VERY vivid dreams and can recall them very well after getting wasted ;) Once I had a bottle of wodka and woke up at 8 AM, I could recal everything.
Problem however is that any exercises for inducing LDs while under the influence are harder since you can't concentrate and feel little bit titred (at least in my case).
Nevertheless would be interesting if someone examined the various effects of alcohol on dreaming. I think I'll do that since I often I drink alot anyways
