The following is a public-service announcement:

After seeing a mod, with an American flag in his profile, slaughter a simple four letter word several times (including in the subject line) - I could no longer resist...

http://www.google.com/toolbar

Install it. Now, when you're done with your post, just click the green check-mark with the "ABC" above it.

When you see a word in red, click that word. When you're finished and all the words are green, either click post, or click outside of the text and click "Stop Checking".

Can't get much simpler.

This isn't going to make you a better writer. Alas, I fear we'd need to go back in time and murder a bunch of your school teachers in cold-blood for that to become a reality. That said, at least it will make your posts a little less painful for the rest of us.

Here's an example - I'll misspell "exmple"

Download it, install it, use it, love it...

Although this won't necessarily make people better writers, I nonetheless look forward to great progress in understanding only the entirety of existence, simply by not spelling it like "existance."

As a long-term alternative to using Google toolbar, you can just use a Mac. Your browser will automatically check your spelling as you type. There is no step 2!

Pat yourself on the back for owning a Mac.

Say, you want to look up a word KP uses you might not understand? Right-click on it to look it up in your Oxford, either in a drop-down menu...

...or its own application.

True - but it _substantially_ lowers the reading rate. I also find it lowers my retention. Which, considering the content of many posts, is probably a good thing. ;)

if you have the speed...you'll love it!

edit: they cut out the one part I loved. So the quote is: "the thing is bouncing up and down like a jack russel f***ing terrier"

maybe I could use a spell check! terrier? is that right?

"Jack Russell" is capitalized, there's a second "l" in "Russell," and it's "terrorist."

A Jack Russel terrorist would be insane! Instead of distracting them with negotiators, you could just throw a tennis ball and have him chase after it.

According to Word, terrier is a word, but I don't know if it's the one I want (I'm thinking about the dog).

Seeing as how I'm owned by a JRT - I tend to refer to them as a "Jack Russell Terrorist" myself.
The breed was started by the parson John "Jack" Russell in (I believe) the mid-1800s. Bred to be a nearly unstoppable hunting machine. They were bred for fox hunting in the worst possible conditions. They will climb a tree straight up, dig six feet in hard-packed dirt, stay underground for days on end, die there if they have to, but won't leave without their prey... They can out-run and out-cut a full grown male jackrabbit in full sprint. At 15" tall (English JR - American JRs have short legs), mine can clear a six foot fence without touching it with a couple dozen foot run up. He can pull at least six times his weight - with his teeth. Crushing a tennis-ball flat until it explodes in their mouth (on the first bite) is something they do when they're bored. Speaking of "board" [sic] - his favorite chewtoy is turning a 6x6 into splinters.

They are a pretty amazing example of selective breeding...

I never understood why Macs are blindly hated so much? Other than making PC owners feel their system is inferior there's no real reason to hate on a Mac. I have a Mac and its is probably the fastest, most reliable computer I've ever owned- and on top of that it's stylish. No Spyware, No viruses, processing speed dwarfing that of PC in terms of power, and the list goes on and on. I use it for composing music (along with any other real music producer or artist), and I would never bother with a PC again and I've been using a PC since the 386 days. Please list your reasons for hating a Mac other than most people dont have them and cant build them.

Solskye, maybe we can take the Mac thing to a different thread?

It's really important that people have a spellchecker. I really didn't mean to derail this thread. Google toolbar is free and does the job so those who are on a PC should use it.
