Any of you who have known me for the past 2 years probably remember Orpheus, my beta fish, who kicked the bucket last year

Well, I just got a new one, and since y'all helped me come up with a cool name for the last one, I was hoping y'all could help again with my new one:

Hey, my mum had one of those, but he died when she moved house. She called it 'Sushi'. I always thought that was an excellently ironic name for a fish, especially as she has a cat...:P
RIP Sushi...

The kanji for fish is: 魚 and it's read as "sakana" (I think?)
Osiris is the Egyptian god of the dead and ruler of the Underworld. What a crappy job that must be. :undecided:
And my vote remains for Leviathan. :D

I still say Happi. Its such a cute name and it has an interesting and fitting mythological story to it. Osiris is to common and creepy for a fish. youll be happy with happi ;).. then again you could always go with Seven.

Fish: рыба pronounced something akin to "ryba" except the ы is a letter more like the "oo" if you were trying to say "foot" in the back of your throat.

Then, every time he has a birthday, you can sing:
When the moon is in the 7th house and Jupiter aligns with Mars!!!
Then blah blah blah.
Blah blah.
THIS IS THE DAWNING OF THE AGE (say number of years here) OF AQUARIUS! AGE (here too) OF AQUARIUS! AQUARIUS!!!! AQUARIUS!!!

HECK yeah!! I remember that opera, I sang "Song to the Moon" from it in college.
Anyway, I was hesitant to give this fish a female name, considering that he\'s a he. But I\'ve been watching this one, and I don\'t think he bats for the same team as the other betas.
So Rusalka is perfect, I love it!

haha definitely not, I just took that picture before I moved him to Orpheus\'s old gallon size bowl. I\'m going out today to get some more pretty rocks and marbles for it.

Yeah! The Russians triumph again!
But actually, I hadn't heard of the Rusalka. I've heard about the myth of the Vodinoi, though, who is the guardian over all the lakes, rivers, etc. He's also known for pulling people under the water and then those people have to serve him. He can sometimes take on the image of a horse but also the image of a naked old man with green slime in his hair.
I'll have to look into the Rusalka. Is that the name of the opera?
*waves to happy fishy* :okbyenow:

oh it's not a Russian opera, it's sung in czech, composed by Antonin Dvorák (pronounced duh VOR zhack), who based the story on czech fairy tales
however the term Rusalka was probably russian, and the original story may have been russian, before the librettist took it and translated it into czech, but I'm not sure (still researching that)
edit: there is a less popular opera written by russian composer, Alexander Dargomyzhsky, also titled 'Rusalka' (Русалка), though it was translated INTO Russian from an English play version of the story
rusalki also appear in May Night (Майская ночь) by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, who adapted the libretto from Nikolai Gogol’s story "Майская ночь,или Утопленница" (Majskaja noč', ili Utoplennica" = "May Night, or The Drowned Maiden").
so I suppose the 'Rusalka' legend is possibly known throughout all slavic cultures...but in which country it originated I do not know...Russian would be my best guess

Yeah, Leviathan is cool, but he costs like 50 mp to summon. Also that is a tough fish's name and this fish is obviously a sissy. I'd name him Skippy or Slappy or something... Magikarp...
Eh? What's that? You already named him..? There's still time to change it to Skippy!
