I told my mom about this, and she said that she does it all the time. But: she naturally sleeps about 3 hours per night, and then if she ever sits still for more than five minutes, she falls asleep. She never makes it thru a TV show. She can sleep sitting up easily, but wakes up easily and says something random before coming to.

It wouldn't be worth it.

ever heard of that sleep cylce people go on where they live off of hour naps? Sounds kinda like that. People report entering REM immediately everytime they sleep and apparently some people like living like this.

How come they are sleeping like that? For LD'ing?

I know you need to have a certain amount of REM, and if you don't get it while you are asleep it will start happening while you are awake. I guess that would be LD but it sounds miserable though.

Not for LDing mostly, but that is a plus. I dont know why youd do that but you have to be pretty insane.

to be pretty insane or to be a highschool student :D
lessons are so boring you can't avoid living on hour naps!

I wouldn't take up polyphasic sleep (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep) unless I were completely sure of my strength with health and had a large amount of free time on my hands. It takes quite a while to develop it seems and seems to be extremely exhausting to get used to.

Thanks, Merlock. That was interesting; I didn't know there was a name for that.
