View Full Version : Sleeping positions: do they correlate to recall?

Hey, guys. This is my first post.

I've read a lot about lucid dreaming in the past, and started to get pretty good recall. Life soon stepped in, however, and I lost it over a very stressful year. I'm trying again over summer break.

I've noticed in the past that I only seem to remember dreams when I sleep on my back. If I sleep in fetal position, or on my stomach, or anything like that, I don't think I really am able to recall my dreams upon waking.

Is this a common observation?

(Unfortunately, I am the most comfortable in fetal postion, and have trouble falling asleep on my back... I always end up ultimately just curling up on my side. This really makes recall difficult for me, lol.)

Welcome to the forum :)

I found another thread about this same question (http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13202&highlight=sleeping+position), if you're interested.

Personally, I do think my sleeping position affects my recall. Almost every night when I climb into bed and lay in a position, I remember a dream from the night before - I think it's because I'm in the same position as when I was dreaming it.

Also it's been noted by a lot of members that as soon as they move positions after waking up from a dream, they forget it. So you should lay still for a few seconds and not move after waking up to improve your recall.

I have noticed the same thing, btowntkd. My sleeping position has everything to do with the kind of dreams I have, if I can recall them, or if I have an LD. If I sleep on my back, I am usually a bit uncomfortable, and tend to fall asleep very slowly....As if I sleep on my stomach, I am so comfy that I usually fall asleep right away. So, I agree with you...Position (for me) affects everything.

Yeah but what effects does ''uncomfortable'' or ''comfortable'' sleeping positions have for you in DREAMS / dream recall? :P

I don''t really seem to get affected no matter how I sleep, but i'll try to use the Dream Yogi Style I once read.. which is annoying as hell to fall asleep with.. but who knows, it might work :P

I find that if I lucid dream/OBE/do anything, it happens most effectively when I lay flat on my back. :)

I would have to agree. The back is the best position for dream recall. About 90% of the time I wake up from a dream on my back.

That is interesting what burns said about not moving after waking from a dream. Now that I think about it, that seems to be true. I will have to remember to try it.
