View Full Version : Rambling Under Minds Good Topics

I believe the Senseless banter was created for a reason. And recently I have seen a lot of good discussions gone aerie because of thoughtless one word posts and changing of the topic all together. Discussions between two people should be used in private messaging. Don't reply to a post just for the sake of posting. :!:
Some people seem to post in an attempt to have a "mountain" of a post count.

I noticed that too and am myself guilty of that on a few accounts. But I'm using the pm system more and more now. :P

The few generally ruin things for the many. I'm not much on posting, however, I enjoy reading many of the discussions on this forum. It is very frustrating when I am reading an interesting discussion and I have to foward to the third page before I find a response that isn't someone just trying to build up their amount of posts.

The 'rambling' is a problem that many forums encounter. Indeed, it is the evident fate of any thread after a long time, and I even know of some moderators that end up locking threads that are so many pages long (because they are about to enter a peroid where people just start talking about things not related to the topic whatsoever, and are genreally wasting space).
Another thing is post counts. We all like our post counts. The higher your post count, the better it is (in the eyes of most people). While this is not the case for some people, it is an issue for other people that want to be in the Top 10 posters, or some other Top posters list. Some forums I have been to do not provide post counts, because they have ran into problems with people spamming to make it higher.
And another thing is that when the topic changes to another one through genreal chat (ie: A topic about Astral Projection gradually becomes a topic about how life sucks), the new topic might be more intresting than the topic the thread was originally intended for and therefore it inevitably strays.
Although, this does not give anybody an excuse to set a thread "off task". If you see a thread going off topic, just keep to the original topic. Make a new thread, if you want to talk more about the other topic.
Don't reply to a post just for the sake of posting.[/b]
Yeah, I've noticed that. To increase your postcount people should stay in Senseless banter or welcome every darned newbie

I would make the Newbie Forum decrease your post count, just to see who really wants to welcome newbies and who wants their post count higher. :P

That actually would not motivate people to welcome newbies(which is your point), but people wouldn't like to respond much to those threads, wether they are post whores or not. We are all fond of our counts, and I wouldn't like mine to descend because I feel like I would like to make the noobs feel at home, like the regs made me feel when I got here...
They will never do that, but if anything, they should just make them neutral...
P.S. It would also have some serious logistical problems for the newbs:

I was going to include more of you, by the way, but it was just turning out to be too long....
Don't feel excluded or offended....
P.S. I just realized what this thread was originally about, and, although I didn't do it to make my post count higher, I kind of did change the topic, or its mood, a bit. Sorry....
Back on topic: It is hard to stop this kind of thing, this being a perfect example. I know I am not part of the solution, in fact I am very much part of the problem, but it kind of makes this an interesting place. That is why I like this place so much.
P.P.S. If these posts were out of place I don't mind if somebody sends them to senseless banter, or if you want for me to do it myself....I don't want to be disrespectful to anyone...

exactly truthbearer.I see where you are coming from.I too am guilty of doing this on more than one occasion. But so is lowercase, kaniaz,a lost soul, even lucius.I won't say a name, but even our beloved gothic girl has done it.
So I think that although it can be annoying, it is truly part of what makes this an interesting and fun place. That's all I have to say about this.
Oh yeah,

I know....but it gave me a great excuse to parody people in the board, and do one of your little spotlight bits....j/k
P.S. Lowercase, I know that we aren't like that, it is supposed to be an exageration. I just made a parody of certain board members and the sort of conversation that sometimes ensues, but obviously not as bad....

i resent that. and u should check ur facts before making senseless accusations. i think ull find i have a lower post count han anyone here. at a whopping -5278, u should be embarrassed to make such a senselless accusation. name one person with a lower post count. and even before that was my post count, i only replied to posts directed at me, as someone would answering a question. its not my fault im spoken of and referred to more then others. and by the way what a clever pun... a "mountain" of a post count... haha... it would have been funnier if u hadnt put it in quotes tho, if u had let people make the connection on their own...
"i also realize the irony that i have a mole, and i, myself, am a mole."
"no one would... make... that connection..." [/b]
