View Full Version : I still say...

the dorky phrases that were once "in", no longer cool to say, yet I can't seem to break the habit are:

- chill out (<<-- might still be cool though, I can't tell)
- oopsie daisies
- bad ass
- asap (I actually say it as a word, not the individual letters)

that's all I can think of at the moment...what about y'all? (<<-- which doesn't count btw, because it's part of a dialect :P )

All of those except oopsie daisies are still used by yours truly, which means they are still cool.

i still say "chill out" and "bad ass." i never really said "asap" much as a word or letters.

i still say things are "awesome" and, occasionally, "rad." usually when i say something's rad, though, i mean it's cool in a very old-school '80s type of way.

what does it mean if i sometimes say "y'all," even though i'm not and never have been part of the culture that produced that dialect? i blame spanish and latin for making me say it. they both have separate words for singular you and plural you. "y'all" is just the american/english version of "ustedes" or "vos."

I use "sweet" all the time, and I don't think that "awesome" will ever go out of style... unless someone constantly says it with the Bill and Ted accent.

Ebonics has forever tainted my lexicon. The public school system I survived
was very urban and gang heavy.

I also overuse retarted ( misspelled intentionally )
and I use the f word about four million f*****g times a day. Classy, huh ?

bad-ass is still in. However you really needa ditch A-sap. That's really corny. I have a bad habit of not being creative enough with insults. Probably because the people around me are so uncreative, but "retarded" and "gay" are WAY overrused by me and by others around me. it's hard to have good insults that don't also incorporate profanity. :(

I think "choice" and "cherry" have a chance for a comeback. They were not as often heard, yet whenever I hear "choice" I can still see the image of my college illustration teacher saying it.

"ooh... look at that little highlight - they way you just popped it right in there and brought it to life! That's just so choice."

:shakehead2:

edit:
Oh yeah, i just used "oh, snap" in chat -- is that one still on the cool list?

i still say "cool"

and i use "Blasphemer" a lot... for whatever reason... i don't even know how it got into my head

and the pretty normal, almost meaningless words like "fuck", "shit", "dick", "asshole" (<-- maybe the only word i use to curse)

and i use dots alot...

yeah......................

OpheliaBlue

haha I still say trippy

"choice" is pretty bad Joe, so is "oh, snap" (no chance of comeback I'm afraid :P )

phoen- "cool" is not out of style yet, silly.

I say lots of weird things. My friends say I'm like a cross between Mr. Burns and Weebl. Some things I say that are out of style include:

CURSES!
bummer.
titty biscuits!
like kage, I still use 'like' a lot. Can't help it.
mellow, I like saying mellow.
fellows / gentlemen / fellas / gents / ladies. I like to address groups in an archaic fashion.
I used to say trippy but I don't like the term as much anymore. now I try to improvise more and make up words like TRIPPADELIC! or TRIPTASTIC!

and being a masshole, I can't go one day without saying WICKED!!

there's so much more but nothing is really coming to mind.. I like to bust out old timey expressions as a spur-the-moment type thing but I can't pin down any right now.. thats just how my brain works (minimally).

i always want to use old-timey expressions like "Tally ho," calling a friend "Bob, old biscuit," "chap," stuff like that. but i never think of them in situations where i can actually use them in greeting someone or whatever.

also, i think people should say "Blimey" more, but, again, i never remember in appropriate situations. i always just end up saying "Oh shit" or whatever.

remember ''da bomb'' and ''dumb slap''?

i say "bollocks!'' a lot.
i also make up my own terms every once in a awhile, such as ''that bleeds'' instead of sucks, or ''that sucks severely''.
i also say ''gag me'' a lot. i thought i made that up , but i saw they used to say something like that in the 80s.
trippy, freaky, and hot are faves, too.
i also say ''lovely'' instead of ''cool'' sometimes.

I say "lovely" all the time, though not in place of "cool." Sometimes I wonder if my cat thinks her name is Lovely :content:

I'm coming to the defense of " oh, snap " . If I say that in a group of people I
just met, and one laughs at the phrase, I already know something about that person.
It's hard to explain, but I do it all the time.
I usually have alot in common with that person, dude or chick. :?: :?: :?:

I admit I still occasionally, and accidently use the word "awesome"

Luckily, none of the first four mentioned are used by me... except for chill in the right context (which is not "chill out" anymore).

Only the person can really say which slang words are still cool to say or not, because it changes based on demographics. For instance, how many of you use the words Chiller (like a person), sketch (like... there are cops around), cutty (like under a 40 foot bridge sitting between the rafters or something), shady (like to describe the guy that will rip you off) or gerped (like... when something is not looking the way it should due to drugs, sdpecifically mushrooms)? Those are just a few slang words I can think of that are still cool to say from where I sort of grew up.
