View Full Version : I Recall Having Dreams Where I Was Flying

Hi everyone.

I remember that I when I was younger had several dreams where I was able to fly. They were not lucid because I remember that I seriously beleived that I would be able to fly in real life after having woken up. I don't remember my exact age at the time of the dreams, but I assume it was at a point where logic hadn't totally destroyed my wish of being able to fly.

I even recall how I managed to fly in the dreams. And this is what my question is really about. But i'll just breifly explain how I flew.


The first dream:
I remember I was outside in my old schoolyard. I was playing by a large tree that was in the center of the yard and then all of the sudden I levitated a bit. It wasn't much but that was the first dream where it happened.

In subsequent dreams I remember that I discovered a connection between the altitude that I could levitate in, and how relaxed I was in the dream. So in order to get up real high I had to relax a lot. I later gained vertical control as well, but it was nothing like superman'ish zooming about. Just levitation with control, kind of similar to a hot air balloon.

The question:
Now that I am older and I recently discovered lucid dreaming I was wondering if you think I might be able to use "my old flying technique" in order to acheive what appears to be difficult to many? (I have yet to have my first LD)

Bonus question:
I have noticed that when I am about to fall asleep I tend to have sort of a brief "spasm" or whatever you might call it. It almost feels like an electrical shock, just without the electricity and pain... I have noticed that my girlfriend seems do do the same thing. I would like to know if this is normal, and in general get some more information about it.

(I have yet to have my first LD)[/b]Hi Martin Shadow Welcome to the forum. In regards to using your old technique Yes this would be a very good idea to do. Relaxation is usually the best way that I am able to maintain and stabilize my Lucid flight. The more comfortable you feel the easier it is to do when you are more coherent in the dream world. So as they say if it's not broke don't fix it. Do what feels natural to you. because what works for someone else may not necessarily work for you.

Hypnic Jerk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnic_jerk)- Sensation of falling, and then "jerking" awake just as one drifts to sleep. It is a normal sensation experienced by many people. This is normal don't sweat this. :goodjob2:

Answer to first question... Of course you can! :D lying in lucid dreams is 99% about belief in yourself. If you believe your method will work, then it will.

Bonus question. This is totally normal and happens to most people. My personal opinion is that it is either an artifact of going into sleep paralasys, or a brief relaxing of sleep paralysis. People that actively practice the WILD technique experience this often and of longer duration.

Wow thanks both of you for the fast reply's.

And nice to know a "flying technique" beforehand so that i hopefully can go straight to work with my first goal when i get into my first LD's.

Also thank you for clarifying the Hypnic Jerk phenomenon. I'll look into that and everything else whenever i get some time.

Quite a few of my dreamings I'm flying, I remember how I fly and how easy it was that when I woke up I feel like I could really do it. One time I was flying I thought hey I can't fly and I relized I was in a dream and went lucid, then I just fly around more anyways lol. Anywyas you could probaly use the same techquie on how you fly in a non-lucid dream too. As for the weird feeling thing, I sometimes do that, if I was almost alseep and then I'm thinking about something like walking down the stairs and I miss a step, then it feels like I miss a step and then it feels like I actually then and I jump 3 feet up in the air and then I'm awake agian. Maybe everyone has differnt feelings they feel when falling asleep.
