View Full Version : How Do You Guys Do It -_-'

I want to pick up practicing LD'ing again, but I can't find even the slightest sliver of motivation to keep a dream journal. I wake up in the morning (by the alarm usually, for school) around 6:40. I might be able to keep one if I didn't have to wake up so early, but that's not going to happen.

How do you guys find the energy to do it? I've literally been trying for like 3 monthes to get a single entry, and I can't do it. I must have the willpower of a sloth.

Also, as a side note, how badly does everyday stress screw up your LD'ing capability? I live a fairly stressful life due to school work, depression, having to get up early (zzz), slight cases of insomnia, etc etc. Hopefully it doesn't limit my chances to a critical point.

Thanks in advance for responses.

well lol I dont keep a dream journal anymore. Just try and do it for a month and then that should be enough for a decent amount of things. Like seeing what common factor all dreams have and that will lead you to learn whether your dreaming or not. I have no clue about the stress tho, and you could try WILDs.

I don't wake up in the middle of the night to write down dreams either. But I write down anything I can remember when I wake up in the morning. Sometimes if I have a cool dream in the middle of the night, I'll make myself remember keywords, so in the morning I can recall the dream by remembering the keyword, then I can write it down.

Stress can definitely negatively affect dreaming and LD-ing recall. You'll still dream and everything, but your recall may suffer.

I have the same problem as you. I have to get up about 20 minutes earlier actually and I'm usually awoken via alarm clock. It does seem to have a pretty dramatic effect on my dream recall, but I somehow manage to remember my dreams (it usually takes about an hour).

Usually, since I don't have the time to write down my dreams and I'm not waking up in the middle of the night, I just do my best to remember my dreams as detailed as I can, then I come back and type them up over here. I seems to have some effect, because before dreamviews I was about one dream per month at most, and now I'm around one dream every day or two.

Basically, while I'm on my way to school, I look around at stuff and it usually triggers the remember of a dream. Today, I had been awake for three-four plus hours until I finally remember my dream. I don't usually know what triggers it (maybe its a thought, maybe a feeling, maybe a tangible item). You just have to want to remember them, you can't just give up on yourself.

Also, as a side note, how badly does everyday stress screw up your LD'ing capability? I live a fairly stressful life due to school work, depression, having to get up early (zzz), slight cases of insomnia, etc etc. Hopefully it doesn't limit my chances to a critical point.

Again, I have to same obstacles as you. At first it may seem like it messes you up pretty badly, but you eventually get around to remember some dreams. Like I said before, you have to want dreams and you have to work for them. Who knows, maybe I'm not working at my full potential because of the stress I have from my daily life.

Stick with it, keep a record of everything you can remember of your dreams, and eventually you will improve.

You know, sometimes it is beneficial to take a vacation from the grind of journals and reality checks. Give yourself a week or two off and just relax. Enjoy your non-lucid dreams, or nights of non-rememberance.

I'm being serious here, it really does help.

I have found this to be true. I had my first LD after about a month and a half of trying. Then I took about two weeks off from RCs and journaling, and then I had two LDs last night. Give it a try!

I get up just 10 minutes earlier then you, I get 9 hours if I get to sleep in 30 minutes but thats rare, I used to be just like you, stressed out and just couldn't get in the mood, then I just decided one day to just do it, and slept longer then 8 hours on a school day and I felt great in the morning, with lots of dream recall. you might be in athletics though, and it's hard when you got only a few hours of free time, and alot of homework, but you feel so much less stressed.

Although I also agree with seeker I don't believe it takes that much to ld, just a nice recall ability and the want to be lucid.

I use to be to tired to get up and write in the DJ to. When i wake up in the morning it use to look like a mess so i have to take time to try to figure out what is means.
I have a DJ with updates so i use to get it after a while, but i can't say that i ain't tired when writing in it. it's like i continue sleeping while writing :p

you have to ask yourself how much you really want lucidity?

If you cant be bothered to even write basic notes on your dreams the next morning...well I would have my doubts you wanted it that badly.

I usually journal by taking basic notes on my fone. and then write it all up in detail the following night, so dreams are fresh in my mind before bed.

Dream journaling is actually quite easy. I too don't really have the motivation to write them down when I wake up unless it was a really amazing dream and I want to make sure I get down every detail or something. But all I do usually is keep this little notebook and a pen next to my bed and when I wake up I just jot down main keywords of the dream, as many of them as I find necessary. Then whenever I find time or feel motivated I get on my laptop and look at the notebook and type the dream up.

It's pretty astonishing how just writing down those keywords can make you remember most of the dream the whole day. And if not, looking at them will definitely bring it back to you. So that's probably the easiest method if you don't want to take it too seriously, you can even just blindly write down the words in the dark then go back to sleep if you wake up in the middle of the night.
