View Full Version : Remote Avatar Removal

Attention: Remote avatars are no longer permitted on the board because too many people have been exploiting this as a method of exceeding the board's set boundaries on sizing. Thus, all avatars must now be uploaded to our server. *

Avatar restrictions: *

130 (width) * 160 (height); 25K. If you think that is unreasonable, keep in mind that the default was about 80 * 80; 6K. *

Thanks.

I didn't mean to abuse it. That's how big it was on the site I ripped it off of. :-P It's ok, though. I resized it and uploaded it to this site.

I will kick the ass of anyone else who uses it though! Noob or not! This is why I didn't upload it in the first place.

Did you use photoshop to resize it? It looks kind of pixellated... :|

I've got a new avatar. w00t!

I'll probably going to put the mad-sexy avatar back on soon, but i'll probably have to re-upload it. I know how you ladies miss it. ;)

UPDATE:

If you want to see the one that I took this one off for, go to this address:

And if you are unfortunate enough to use a browser which doesn't support loading gifs, open the page and save it on your hard drive as avatar.gif or something.

Just uploaded me a new Avatar. WeeeEee! Maybe you should limit the size of images in signatures to something like 15k, some of them are pretty big and you don't have to go too far to see that... ^ hint ^ hint. :P

hrm...my intention wasn't to launch an attack against anyone in particular. i've noticed for a long time that people have been exceeding the boundaries, and i finally decided to stop it for one reason: we have a lot of users still using dial-up, and for them it's rather deterring to have to wait so long for a page to fully load. also, keep in mind that it wasn't just physical dimensions that were being exceeded; some of those with seemingly-properly sized avatars were exceeding the alloted file size.

Yep, yours was fine. there was no method of individually turning off avatar uploading per user--I had to completely disable the option.

Your avatar is as accessible now as it was earlier--no more, no less: people can still grab the file name, however, uploading it has not included it in the avatar gallery.

This is no immediate method within phpBB to accommodate this.

Wait a second... How would that stop people taking it? :|

I don't really mind the off-linking-not-working-anymore. I once used to moderate this forum where people would [try] to upload gigantic, 800x600 avatars, and almost always it was some form of pornography. :P

[edit: we've got a pretty generous size for avatars. Some forums I go to are like, miniscule 60x60 things].

We ARE lucky Aren't we? :P

Anyway, my new Avatar is "teh r0X0rz!" :)

There's too much respect for her to do that. :)
