View Full Version : Punching
i dont know how often any of you dream about punching anybody, but does anybody ever have a dream where you are trying to punch somebody and for some reason you just cant move your fist fast enough. i occasionally have a dream where my brother is punching me, and when i try to hit him back, my arm just slows down, no matter how hard i try.

That's fucked up dude. I just had a dream like that. I was trying to punch my ex's ex(who she used to still like, while we were dating), and she just left me for some other dude, so I thought it was kind of weird it was her ex... but still... all I wanted was to kick his ass(they were in bed together), and I couldn't. I was pissed... I'm sure there's a psychological meaning behind this.

Hmm, my fighting dreams are all good. I sometimes fight my brother just like in real life and stuff. I had one the today that I just relized I had a second ago and it had to do with my brother spazzing out when I broke his string or something. Whatever, I think I beat him up or something...
i wish i could have dreams where i actually HIT people, its very frustrating.

I have many fight dreams, but they often escalate to weapons pretty quickly. Rarely have I been able to actually make contact at the speed I intended without doing the actual movement in my bed and waking myself up. Many times it's like I'm underwater or in sand or something. I know exactly what you mean -it's frustrating!! (I think that's why I usually resort to weapons or telekinesis -moving things with my mind instead of using my fists/legs to fight -hey... maybe it has something to do with the mind trying to orient the physical body and the dream body? If I sleep in strange positions, sometimes my limbs feel hindered in my dreams, like if I have one hand under my head, or if I clasp hands together on my chest... hmmm :undecided:

I've had that "underwater feeling" in dreams many times; I'm sure it's common.
It's definitely not an absolute limitation though, because I've had plenty of normal-speed fights in dreams.
When in doubt, use a gun. ;)

Yep. I get that underwater feeling whenever I have to either run away from something, or chase after something. It's very annoying.

I hope I have a dream like this and become mildly lucid, so that I can punch someone(her new bf or her ex, I don't care, they represent the same threat), or at least will myself to do to some harm, just so I can feel good about it. Better to beat some ass in my dreams rather than in real life(legal repercussions). Both those dicks deserve it

I've been there! My most frightening dreams have probably been "underwater feeling" dreams.
Another strange feeling I've had when trying to run very fast is weightlessness... it's as if I'm on the moon and every step I take shoots me a couple feet off the ground. It slows me down so much that I have to "run" hand-over-hand like I'm climbing a ladder. It's difficult to describe: I pull myself forward across the ground very quickly with my hands while my legs sort of dangle in the air behind me as I go.
That doesn't happen in scary dreams though, just ones where I'm trying to get somewhere very fast.

I had one of the COOLEST DREAMS this week. There was this girl who (in real life) runs super fast and she did in my dream and she asked if we thought it was good. Me and another kid started running. He was advancing in front of me pretty fast. We were both already going super fast but I was taking small steps. I started doing this weird thing... This is how I would describe it... It was kind of like going little steps and having to push through air or something. I did that and I fricken ZOOOOOMED past the other kid and I loved it. I love my dreams in which I feel like I have infinite stanima.

YES! Another Kevin Smith fan!!!
You made my day! :-D
As for the punching mattter; why you can't speed your fists to dramatical injury speed (that sounds wrong), could be for many reasons.
You say your brother was hitting you and you wanted to act in self-defense? Possibly this was your true subconscious mind willing you to slow down before actually hitting because you don't truly want to hit him. In real life, we may think about it in the back of our head that we don't want to hit someone, but are already in the middle of, however, in dreams, our subconscious can manipulate time, thus, slowing it down for you to fully realise the "reality" of the situation.
Also, it may be in correlation to why you can't typically run in dreams. Why you can't run is probably because of the matter that in your dreams, phsycial entity and properties and typically non-existant, and that you have an endless amount of time in this dream state. This two together will stop you from typically running. What I mean by this is that your body does a lot of things while you run, and when you try to run in your dream, your brain won't allow you to because the (I believe) parential lobes of your brain are on a much, much, lower wavelength than any other time. Ergo, you will not be able to run because your brain won't allow you to, because it knows you don't need to. Also, your brain knows you don't need to because you are in a subconscious/unconscious state. There is no need to run, there is no adreneline in dreams, etc. (Persay.. that's a controversial line right there, I know, but level with me for a sec) And since the major parts of your brain that operate your body are on a low standy-by, it will stop you from running in this state, especially during REM sleep.
I believe that basically sums it all up..
Hope I was enlightening,

I sort of agree... but I don't hit women, even in my dreams. The connotations of that are too fucked up for me to even want to think about. I'm not a brute or anything, I'm just pissed off. Though... I thought about lighting all her stuff on fire... but I didn't do that either...

dont worry about those other dudes second...the girl your meant to be with only wants you.....being gelouse requires too much energy that should be spent doing other more important things....if a girl cheats cut your loses.

I have those "underwater punching" dreams too. It has something to do with being unable to express your frustrations or anger towards that person. I also have dreams where I'm trying to call someone and I keep dialing the wrong numbers over and over again. And dreams where someone is trying to "get" me and I have all these doors I have to lock to keep them out. I used to have these dreams all the time, but since I've started meditating and working out some of my issues, they have kind of disappeared.

Underwater fist/flying/running dreams plague me far too often... As for calling people on the phone in dreams, I'm usually too afraid to, because I fear I might be calling people in the real world, and that would be impolite to do at 3am...
