View Full Version : Why Aren't My Dreamsigns Registering?

Last night, I had a dream with most of my dreamsigns: a person "EF," stairs, changing clothes in front of a mirror, and dogs. But it didn't register and I didn't LD :blue: How frustrating. I think my mind is trying to help in my goal of becoming lucid, but something's not working. Why don't I recognize dreamsigns consistently, especially if there are so many in one dream?

Any advice?

Do you see dream signs a lot? If not, my guess would be that it may take a few of these dreams for your brain to figure it out. If the same thing persists then you might have a reason to worry, but for the time being just let things work themselves out. Just keep doing what your doing and it'll happen..

By the way, do you do reality checks when you experience these dream signs in real life or do you just know what they are? That could make all the difference.

Thanks for the input, Casualtie. I see my dreamsigns frequently, but not with every dream. This dream was odd in that I saw a lot of them at the same time.

The only dreamsigns I normally will RC in waking life are elevators (not in the dream above) and sometimes the mirror. I'll definitely try to be more consistent with as many of these as I can, though!

That sounds like the problem to me. The main point of dream signs is so that you can get yourself in the habit of doing reality checks when you see them; if not it wouldn't be any more effected than trying to remember that if anything ridiculous happens then your obviously dreaming [which we all know isn't a very reliable way to induce lucidity].

You should try to stay consistent with reality checking at the sight of your dream signs, so [if I remember correctly] you can train your subconscious and hopefully pick up it while dreaming; like a bad habit ; )

Thanks. That makes so much sense now! The bizarre things that happen in dreams seem "normal" when they're happening so I'm not prompted to ask myself if I'm dreaming. But in habit of RCing when I see a dreamsign should carry over if I practice it consistently.

Some nights it just doesn't click. I cannot count the number of times dreamsigns have failed to register on me, in fact, it was Tuesday night, in the office in my underwear. One of my prime ones.

Keep up the reality checks and more importantly, the burning desire to LD!

:chuckle: Thanks, Seeker. Will do!

Hiya there, my adopted child. :P (Feels weird to say that to someone older than me).

Now, this is just my opinion, and people will disagree with me. But, I believe you should stop being so concerned about making the dreamsign-lucid connection, and instead try to use dreamsigns as a clue to make you consider your surroundings. And, try to consider the reality of your surroundings more in real life, WITHOUT dreamsigns. RCs are important, but you shouldn;t treat them as a lucid "trigger", but rather, as a cue to contemplate your surroundings and wonder about whether or not you are dreaming. RCs should be a sort of intermediate trigger, the end result should be awareness and genuine wondering and testing.

I feel I may not have explained that very clearly, and on reading it, it sounds ratehr repetitive, but meh. I hop it makes SOME sense.

Don't worry Blue Meanie, what you said makes a lot of sense. Haha "Sex please I'm British." Yup pretty much sums it up.

I agree with you man. I do reality checks through out the day and check multiple things without having to see a dream sign. I think it should be more of a habit like poping you fingers than scratching your head if it itches. Get my drift...? Also, when you do a reality check, try not to automatically think "I'm not dreaming but i should still do a reality check". Try to think that you ARE dreaming and are trying to find reason to believe that you are not. Hopefully this post make sense. :?

I totally agree.

TBM and seaoharrwhy, thank you for the input. I've started incorporating a general environmental reality check --"Am I dreaming? Why do think I'm NOT dreaming?" I'm noticing many small things that I'd previously overlooked -- incorrect signage on the walls at work, paint splatters on the walls, etc. Oh, and I had 2 LDs this weekend :bigteeth:
