Sorry if this is a repeat topic, but I've been rereading Keirsey's Please Understand Me II lately, and I started to wonder: does lucid dreaming attract a certain type of personality?

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a personality-type sorting system. This site has a decent test on it. (http://similarminds.com/jung.html)

For some reason, I'm willing to bet that the idea of lucid dreaming attracts a lot of Intuitive Thinkers, or NTs. (I always test as an INTP, myself.) NTs seem to like the idea of tinkering with things, up to and including what their minds can do. On the other hand, I could see the 'ultimate power' thing attracting SPs.

So-- what's your MBTI type?

Such tests, much like all tests related to peoples' mindframes often aren't objective enough.
They really rather ignore agnosticism and objectivism.

For example, one of the questions goes: "I believe in a supernatural source of peace and love."
If you answer positively, it means you believe, if you answer negatively, it means you don't believe, or rather believe that it doesn't exist. There is no "I don't care", which is in itself an objective position of wisdom worth plenty respect.

Interesting-- seems like we're largely composed of NTs and NFs. The two groups seem to gravitate towards each other, despite them both being allegedly rare. (Ns seem-- to my narrow perspective-- to be way overrepresented on the 'net. No idea why that is.)

The test isn't perfect, Merlock. Still, I've yet to come across anything else that seems to identify and explain people and their personalities as well as the MBTI does, so I tend to use it as a frame of reference. I've been described as slightly clueless about the way other people's brains work, so systems like this are very useful, at least for me.

I wouldn't say it's good at identifying and explaining, as you say it is, just like any tests though. I've never yet come across a test that would allow me personally to answer the questions with my answers, constantly having to pick either "whichever fits most" instead of "the exact fitting" answer or just completely ignore the question because all possible answers aren't anywhere near mine.

That's why I stopped at that question I gave in example after going through the previous questions, many of which also were along the lines of having to pick whichever answer fit most, even though it didn't reflect my view.
I presume this is because every test is compiled by someone in particular and no one is aware of all possible mindframes that different people might have.

To me, assuming the complete invalidity of a classification system because one takes issue with how a few of the questions on a test are worded seems a bit pedantic. While the test-maker may not consider every possible response a test-taker could reply with, I don't think they truly need to: The MBTI just happens to be a useful and fairly reasonable classification system. Classification systems are meant to describe the general attributes of something-- if you were to describe your opinion too minutely, classification would be much more difficult.

Your opinion is just as valid as mine, I'm sure. (No hard feelings, hey?) I just happen to find the MBTI to be fairly useful, despite its possible flaws. That does start up the 'why bother classifying people at all?' argument, but I'm going to cop out on that one, as I have to go to bed.

Ack. :content:
