View Full Version : What's Your Chinese Zodiac Sign?

Following on from really's starsign post I wanted to find out what everybody was according to the Chinese Zodiac.
I realise that the Chinese Zodiac isn't nearly as popular or well-known as the Western one so here's a link so you can find out what you are. http://www.tuvy.com/entertainment/chinese_horoscope.htm
There's a ton of sites on the web but this is the first hit I got on google that gives both the sign and the predominant element.
Personally, I find it a lot more acurate personality-wise than the Western Zodiac.
I'm far more of a Fire Dragon than I am of a Virgo.

In other words, a stubborn ol' cow.

Hmm, I must say, relative to my sign in that Chinese horoscope, it seems to precisely reflect who I am, unlike the Western one, which never has. Quite curious.

I would have much prefered to just be a plain old duck
I'm a Metal Horse - which might be considered an equivalent of Gemeni in the Western Horoscope (the horse), based on the personality charactersitics. I'm also a Pisces and I've always felt that better fitted me. I guess it depends on each individual.

Earth snake:
Snake people enter a room and there is Music, Music, Joy! Everyone dances! Such high spirit! The Snake is so intense and passionate, just as likely to take out the castanets as to climb mountains of snow. Snake year people are charming and romantic, often planning delightful hideaway surprises. Possessing tremendous wisdom, they are deep, quiet thinkers, calm by nature, but most intense. They often get involved in great causes, bigger than life, and often serve as mentors to the young. To paraphrase Confucius, they have a kind of inner beauty that arises, hovers, then comes to nest. They will have an abundance of good fortune and a long and prosperous life.[/b]
Sounds good, but not right.

Personally I don't believe in anything to do with predicting the future, but I do find systems for interpreting how life works really interesting.
Chinese astrology is more about the different types of personality and how they interact and not so much about prediction.
As for the elements, they're the same ones that are used in accupuncture- once again the point is about how the major forces and principles of life interact- just an extension of the yin/yang concept really.

I'm a metal horse. That's grace, strength, rhythm and nobility. I wouldn't exactly describe myself as noble, graceful or rhythmic - I'm strong but that's physical strength from weight training and I'm guessing this is most likely talking about psychological rather than physical strength - which doesn't describe me well at all.
Another few things it said about me are wrong too; always bursting with enthusiasm, active and productive life, very talented, most resourceful, never have to lose precious time worrying about what might have been, serious and responsible workers and have successful careers, Love life. A few bits were right but it's bound to get lucky sometimes. I wouldn't say I do or don't believe in this sort of stuff - I tend to keep an open mind but I can't help but have some doubts with the amount of mistakes made here.

I think you're right. If there's one thing I've become friendly with, it's the interior of (American) Chinese Restaurants. According to the ink patterns on many a Chinese place-mat and calender, I'm an "Ox" (1973). Personally, I think it's bull. But that's a mystical creature for another time.
The whole elemental attribution thing is new to me, as far as the Chinese Zodiac is concerned. It must be something "new".

Metal horse... the horoscope is just about the very opposite of my personality.
Who would have thought that people born in the same year wouldn't all have exactly the same personality? I'm pretty stunned. <SARCASM> :D

I am a fire tiger and quite accurately described. I don't know if I believe in zodiac signs though, although I always find that I have some connection with my western horroscope (gemini). I guess I need to do more research on zodiology (lol, is that a word? sorry, I'm may be making that up because I can't think of the proper term --very tired) I've heard conflicting reports that horroscopes are really off since the dates have all switched since they were first dessignated to each characteristic.

We never had many Chinese restuarants (or Chinese people for that matter) where I grew up so all this is pretty new to me.
I do know, however from my wife's acupuncture treatments that the whole elements thing is about as old as China itself, which if I'm not mistaken is preeeetty old.
The elements are just another pre-scientific-era device to try and explain the ebb and flow of universal energies.
Once again, it's pretty much just yin and yang subdivided into further more precise categories.

I'm a Wood Dragon.
I'm also a Pisces Dragon, which is the last sign in the Western Zodiac paired with the last sign of the Eastern Zodiac. If you have ever seen that giant book that has all 144 combinations in a combined horoscope format, I am on the very last page!

So does anyone here actually genuinely believe that this zodiac sign thing has any actual relevance to peoples personalities?

I'm a steel/metal ram/sheep... how suiting... I know that in one astrological book or something like that it said I was 'the ram on the roof' [how random does that sound?]
Nah, but I've known this stuff for years, but yeah, I find it funny too since my element, though not matching my horoscopic element [I think I'm water or some junk like that, not too good with the western horoscope] it matches my sign's personality, the Scorpio... it's sad in ways too, the only stubborn ram out of the 60 year cycle and I happen to get it...

From a theoretical standpoint, I recognize that the day you were born could possibly influence your personality, though I don't put much faith in it... especially as the descriptions tend to be so vague that they could apply to anyone.
As far as predicting the future is concerned, I believe it is hogwash. Fun hogwash, mind you... but hogwash nonetheless.

As I said, I don't put much faith in it, but let's take it to a logical extreme. The position of the earth in relation to the sun changes each day, and is pretty much on a repeating yearly cycle. There are certain conditions that change along with the position: the angle Earth's axis is pointing in relation to the sun; possibly differences in gravitational pull/electromagnetic energies; weather; etc. I admit the specifics of these points are a bit outside of my realm of knowledge, but it's pretty clear that certain physical conditions are on a yearly cycle.
Now there is no evidence whatsoever that any of these things can change one's personality, but given that they are present and that we don't know what conditions are important during the formation of consciousness, I would have to say there is still a possibility.
Of course I would also imagine that any effect any of these things had would more or less be drowned under the noise of influence that is typical environment and heredity.

Whoah! volatile! I'm a fire dragon married to a tiger, let me just say that our relationship is... passionate.
She's a wood tiger though, which tones down a lot of the tiger's yang energy, so a fire tiger has just gotta be FIERCE!

Hmm... Apparently I'm a wood ox. How delightful! Let's see if I can dissect this... Sorry about the length. Feel free to skip down.
"Oxen in China are put on a pedestal. So it goes with Oxen people. Oxen are bright, peace-loving, often easy-going and trusting. But, on the other hand, they can also be stubborn, methodical, and fiercely competitive, with, shudder, fierce tempers to boot. "
That's more or less true. However, as far as fierce temper, I'm more passive aggressive. It takes a lot to get me riled up enough to do something.
"Oxen are natural born mentors and life is filled with examples of people who have gone on to great success because of them. "
I guess we'll see.
"Mentally and physically alert to the point of genius, many Oxen belong to Mensa."
I kind of laugh. I'd consider myself reasonably smart, but no genius. As for "alert"... he he... Depends on the kind of day I'm having.
"They can create the most imposing structures, magnificent sculpture, and homes. They respond like poets to the beauties of nature and of solitude. Oxen are unique, they are The Flower that bursts through the crack of cement."
I do enjoy writing, including poetry, and I do love nature.
"Bird's Nest Soup and Bean Curd are among the keys to good health!!"
Um, okay.
"Great fun these Wood Oxen, with their marvelous sense of humor that patches up just about everything in their path, winning chuckling friends along the way. Like typical oxen, they are open-minded, with a "laissez-faire" philosophy towards others."
*lifts head up* I have my moments.
"They conduct their own lives with a strong moral code and receive and deserve admiration and trust for their integrity."
Finally! Someone gets me!
"Practical all the way, Wood Oxen never make rash decisions and are always considerate of the needs of others."
Fairly accurate.
"Another story is money! Finances are not too stable because of that old devil Credit! Why, they would buy a dinosaur if they were just offered one with a dollar down and a dollar a week."
I fear credit cards.
"Not only that, they lend money to friends, not a good idea! Despite a volatile financial life, their careers are pretty successful. Since they are generally such quick learners, all they have to do is control their impulsive spending and try saving for a change. "
Yes... but I still loan money to friends. I also enjoy buying things for friends.
"When it comes to moonlight and roses, Wood Oxen have it made. Because they are such good communicators, they know that nothing chills a romance like a cold shoulder. They talk over differences right away, never letting trifles build up into resentments."
Ha ha... no. Though I try really hard to not hold grudges.
"Wood Oxen are very devoted to their family and family life is rich with treasure."
Yes.
So that's me... the wood ox.
EDIT: That's kind of funny. I have a twin, and my two older brothers are both "Water Dogs". We're all very different.

Tiger people are sympathetic, kind, emotional, and sensitive. At movies, they can cry their eyes out! Despite their kindness, they can be extremely short-tempered. The rage of Tigers is terrible to behold but it also gives them the adrenaline needed for the sublimest of bravery. The Tiger is also a deep thinker and can make the most astonishing intellectual connections, with great mental agility. On the negative side, they tend to be suspicious and a bit self-centered, OK selfish, and indecisive. Above everything, however, the Tiger stands as a supreme emblem of protection over human life, admirable always.
Soup and Oolong Tea are among the keys to good health.
Look no further than the Wood Tiger for true friendship. This compassionate human being is always ready to lend his or her shoulder for friends to lean on. Friends show a reciprocal spirit. When the Wood Tiger needs it, friendship and support are always there and indirectly help the Tiger's successful ascent up the career ladder. Once there, this Tiger experiences such prosperity, it's almost like winning the lottery, except it's earned good fortune. Wood Tigers are very creative in finding ways to make life exciting, never lacking inspiration to change what can be changed and to forge ahead with native wit and charm. When it comes to Love, the male Wood Tiger has to fight his fantasy of becoming a playboy. When he experiences that familiar lust-in-his-heart tickle, he has to give in instead to his ingrained gentility. When it's time for a Wood Tiger to marry, he nearly always attracts a very beautiful wife. Also gentle, the female Wood Tiger is very generous with love and kisses and is always good to her husband. Wood Tigers in general have a very fulfilling and happy family life, with no regrets.
