From some faq:
2.12. What is PILD (Punishment Induced Lucid Dream)?
This technique works by punishing yourself every time you fail to realize that you were
dreaming. While going to sleep, tell yourself that you MUST become Lucid this night OR you will
be punished in the morning. Various types of punishment may be a cold shower or maybe an
electric shock. A 9 volt battery against your tongue maybe. This technique should be used in
combination with MILD. The point is to increase your intention, and it works.
Has anyone tried this, or even 'Reward ILD' seems kinda extreme to me, but maybe worth a shot if you are having trouble.
Its kinda retarded. I read that faq (Everyone seems to copy and paste that one faq) and it kinda destroyed the credibility of it since its just stupid, I mean it makes me think of beeing some kinda test-subject in a russian laboratory getting shock-therapy :?

Yeah, I know, there are some other weirds ones on that site.
I don't think it's the best method because it doesn't help with spotting dream symbols or doing reality checks. It's more of the "you better do this or you'll get a detention, then referral, then suspension..."
And when you're forced to do something you'll less likely do it (like if your parents tell you not to do something, it just makes you want to do it more :D )

yeah Je33icaLy88 has a good point here. I don't think PILD is the answer for attaining Lucidity. Our nature is to Rebel naturally, wouldn't you think that would counter-effect attaining Lucidity? You can punish a dog just because he didn't fetch your slippers when you asked him to. Or else eh would never fetch them in the future. No matter how much you punish him. I just think it's not really worth it.
Holy crap, it reminds me about Harry Potter and elf Dobby :D

I think this one may be worth it...
Je33icaLy88 has a great point though.
But I think it would be substantially different because...
1. The punishment is self-induced. Because of this, you are only fighting yourself. Sure, it may be a little stressful on the mind, and you'll probably end up giving up (finally realizing... "so what if i don't lucid dream, i don't HAVE to take a cold shower. i can do whatever i want"), but self-induced punishment [reason goes here]. :D
2. Because of the self-induced punishment, you are fighting for a worthy cause that you want. You want to attain lucidity. You realize you need to work towards that, otherwise you'll suck and fail. When you fail, you'll need to tell yourself not to fail again so that you can only succeed. Rebelling _your parents_ namely is our nature because of how we are brought up in this world. We don't WANT to take out the trash.. What good is it to us? But attaining lucidity, well, we all know the benefits of that...
And stuff.
Stuff..
blah.

Yeah...thats pretty much what I thought, its about getting the right state of mind beforehand, not punishing yourself afterwards.

I agree with the part about punishment being a negative thing... and not much help.
But in its defence it does make you deeply want to have an LD... which is my problem sometimes. It doesn't become important enough
Perhaps reward induced is a nice in-between. Its positive and has the same effect
