View Full Version : The PEST?

Has anybody had any experience with the PEST (Programmable Electronic State Tester)? Basically it's a beeper that randomly goes off during the day with vibrations and/or beeping. Then you press a button and it does something. The theory being that if it goes off enough during the day, you'll start having it built into your dream world, and when you press it, it won't work/do somethind weird/etc. But like most of LaBerge's stuff, it's ridiculously priced/hard to find. Has anybody worked with it before? If there are any EE types, wouldn't that be something relatively simple to put together with an Altera EPROM kind of deal?

I have never heard of it before, but it should be relatively easy to build one.

Some ideas might be an RC circuit build around a 555 timer. Each time it goes off, you press a button to charge the capacitor to a random voltage.

If you own a pager, you could write a computer program to page it at random intervals.

If you own a cell phone, you could write a program to call you at different times during the day.

I find it to be just as effective to pick events that I do at random times during the day such as bathroom breaks or answering the telephone and to do reality checks when those events occur.

the pest was reputed to be succsessfull in its time, maybe it was... but since then i have heard many people say that it was more of a hinderence then help-and its not being sold by the lucidity instatute anymore which might go to say somthing9or maybe they couldnt be bothered with all the money coming in from the novas), as for beepers or mobiles-they wake you up and are hard to place on your body where you wont roll over onto it, i read a topic on ld4all about a vibrating watch that a person purchased over the net, but apparently no big success from that either.
i prefure the old fashion way, it just takes your brain to lucid dream.

Yeah that's what I do...

Only problem is that during the night I never hear it beep (hence, I don't do the RCs)

but it does keep LDing on my mind :D

i remember once having a normal dream where i had won the lottery, i was so happy and i thought 'wouldnt it suck if this was a dream, better do a reality check" back then the watch RC was the best one i knew and hadnt failed me yet...anyway it did this time, most likely because i wanted it too, but now i only use the hold nose RC because it is the ultimatly reliable RC of them all.
just hold your nose and breeeeaaath

That's interesting, the digital watch RC never fails me, but I always try to make the time change. I guess for you- just like you said- it didn't change because you were wishing it were real.

The hold nose RC.. never heard of it... I should try it sometime!
