We had things arranged on music forum to reduce a person's "prestige" the more they posted. While that plan was ditched years ago, they honored my having initiated the system by letting me keep the title "Blabber-mouthed git", which was one of the highest (or lowest) of the possible titles.

I continue to wear it proudly.

That's a dangerous idea. The abuse would be too hard to keep track of. the closest thing I've seen to this policy is an old crappy html chartoom (alamak.com iirc), where the business model was "if you pay, you become a moderator" and that place was quite a disaster.

You know, I've mentioned before but, I'd actually like to see the "rep" system enacted in this forum. I think it's a standard vBulletin feature (at least it is on some other sites I've been a part of) - though it may be a plug-in - and I'm pretty sure you can name it whatever you want.

Well, with the rep system, your post count combined with your own rep level and your membership duration are run through a formula to determine your level of influence when you rep other members.
