A lot of people died in dreams and lived to tell it.
But no one died in a dream and as a result died in real life and lived to tell it

If i was in a dream and i fell off a cliff and hit the bottom and dies within the dream there is no possible way that my physical body could die as a result of a cliff fall that was created by my imagination, sure it may seem pretty real and you may feel the feelings but at the end of the day without your body being physically harmed whilst sleeping i doubt you would not wake up. Remember, its all your imagination :)

I die in dreams ALL the time. I'm pretty sure I'm still alive.
Am I still alive? :/

I can quite firmly say that you don't die in real life if you die in a dream.

How many healthy people have you heard of that died in their sleep?
I've died before.

I think what he meant was actually falling off the cliff in a dream without waking up before you fall. most people wake up just before they hit the ground from falling off the cliff. So what happens if you don't wake up and actually hit the ground?

I've died completely and had the dream continue after my death.

I died once in my dreams. Was shot in the head. It scared me so much that I woke up in sleep paralysis and thought I really was dead! I couldn't move or scream for what seemed like forever and must have only been a minute or less. When I finally could open my eyes I was extremely happy to find I wasn't dead! It was years later that I read about sleep paralysis and realized that is what I experienced.

I have jumped off one of the highest cliff's I have ever imagined and fell and fell and fell and then hit the ground and became one with the ground and then it went into 3rd person perspective and showed my body falling again and exploding upon impact so I am pretty sure that could count as death, but I am still here.
This seriously sounds to me like you think we live in the Matrix.

I wonder why so many people truly believe this, it's kinda stupid.
If someone died in their dream, how could they live to tell about it? :/

I think the myth was created because people tend to wake up before they die in a dream, and therefore assumed it was the mind's way of protecting the body from harm, e.g. death
