Hey I was just wondering about all of the words with a "naut" ending. All I know is astronaut, psychonaut and oneironaut. All of the words with "naut" at the end are usually something cool so I was just wondering if there are any other words besides those three. If this should be in senseless banter feel free to move it.

Nautical

Actually, the ending "-naut" means "explorer.

Astronaut="star explorer"

Aquanaut (speaks for itself), argonaut (someone looking for something dangerous yet rewarding), aeronaut (air sailor), and obviously cosmonaut, oneironaut, astronaut, etc.

Thanks Tweak. I have a new favorite word.

Phenomenaut (http://www.phenomenauts.com/), Juggernaut (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/juggernaut), Argonaut (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argonauts)

"Naut" actually means sailor, thus its similarity to the english word, nautical. Astronaut is "Star Sailor".

Anyway, most of these -naut words are just lazy constructions. I'm very glad English isn't like German or Esperanto et al where you can stick a whole words together to make a new one. Sure, you can, but there are so many other ways to invent a word. I love this language :)

Alright thanks everyone. Actually right after I posted I found a list of all the nauts, but aeronaut wasn't on there, but that one is my favorite.

Actually, -naut means sailor. In most cases it's meant as explorer/goer (ie, space-goer, space-explorer - space-sailor) though.

So yeah, rectal-sailor. :roll:

Hey I just noticed you live 1 hour away from me Xaqaria. Cool.

I think I'm a little more than an hour away from the dream realm, but maybe you're right; I am getting tired.

Just north of Rutland. Looks like you are not too far away either.
