GREENVILLE, Maine - Thumper, a black Labrador retriever, is getting credit for saving a Greenville man when a fire swept through his home.

Roland Cote said his wife and their 7-year-old grandson were away when the blaze started early Sunday in a converted two-story garage. He said Thumper grabbed him by the arm to wake him, leaving just enough time for him to dial 911 before fleeing the fast-moving fire.

While the dog is the hero, a cat is the bad guy in this story.

Cote said the fire marshal investigator believes the blaze was started when Princess, the family cat, tipped over a kerosene lantern. Cote says he and his pets escaped safely, but he says Princess did get her tail singed by the flames.

humpf, I bet Thumper dropped the lantern so that Princess will be blamed and he gets to be a hero...

It's the cats fault that they use a kerosene lantern? Poor cat, doesn't even know what's going on and then get's blamed for setting the house on fire.

How could they know it was the cat that tipped over the lamp, and not the dog? :eh: Sounds prejudice to me!

Glad everyone was unhurt though.

The news never lies. They know everything.

Don't they?

I guess it was high up... still, I blame the human for the carelessness.

My thoughts exactly. Everyone who has cats should know not to let them near an open flame. Actually I know someone else whose house burned down because of a candle and a cat.

(Once I saw that my big fat orange cat's whiskers were all singed off on one side--I figured out that he was trying to eat something off the stove as it was cooking.)

ROFL so true!

Burns, I would think that you would not be so quick to always take the cat's side anymore, now that you have Red. :shakehead:

haah, I could see him doing that though! I mean, if the cats actually let him get close enough to them to frame them :P

I seriously doubt that will ever happen, after seeing Titus' reaction!
