View Full Version : What shows are you/were you addicted to???

You know, like the kind of shows that you need to cancel an outing with friends for and stuff... :D Okay it doesn't have to be that bad.

What I was addicted to in the summer before I was torn away from my TV and whisked away to Russia:

- So You Think You Can Dance
- Hell's Kitchen

Show I would be addicted to if I had BBC:
- IT Crowd. Seen it all online.

Show that I watched the crap out of on DVD:
- Black Books

What I REALLY want to watch but can't seem to be around the TV at the right time:
- FAMILY GUY!

Just off the top of me head. :D Okay your turn.

I'm addicted to absolutely no show. I don't even own a TV. I haven't since I moved out of my parents' house 3 years ago.

Favorite shows from back when I couldn't miss them were pretty much only the Star Trek ones and Dragonball Z when it first came on Cartoon Network.

Hehehe I know, I don't watch anything now. It's something you stop missing if you don't have it. Sort of like soda, I think.

Sorry, Mes. I editted my reply while you were posting.

Anyway, the day I moved out, I didn't miss it and I haven't missed it a single day since. Before I moved out, the only shows I watched were Spongebob when my brothers watched it and Smallville since it was like a whole family thing to watch each episode. Oh yeah, and X-Files was good.

Dexter:aphiusiscrazy:
The series is based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.
Only thing worthy since Sopranos ended.

There are altogether too many in my case. Monday nights I have Chuck, Heroes, and Journeyman, which I just finished watching. Tuesday nights there's NCIS, Wednesday night is Bionic Woman, and quite possibly Pushing Up Daisies, which though I haven't seen yet, I hear is great. Thursday night has Smallville, which I must not miss.

I like to catch Scrubs, Family Guy, and Survivorman reruns if I can, too. And Psych, which comes on USA, I'm going to have to start watching online, since we downgraded our satellite TV and no longer get USA.

I don't watch many shows addictively. I like to watch a few differen't channels depending on whats on. Mainly discovery channel, A&E, AMC, history channel, MSNBC, or spike tv. I like futurama and family guy too... I only have basic cable in my room so I don't get the fancy stuff.

This hour has 22 minutes and the Rick Mercer report, two canadian political satires that have me in stitches every time I watch them. I get really cranky if I miss them... I used to watch every single episode of Who's line is it anyway (the american version) back when it used to air on normal channels, that show was god's theatre. Also, anytime the Montreal Canadians or Allouettes are playing, you can bet the TV will be tuned to the sports channel.

Infinity, never heard of that! Wait it's different from "Dexter's Laboratory" or whatever isn't it?

MoS, holy crap that's a lot. Makes me miss my TVs. I liked the commercial breaks too because I could get up and get something to munch on. :P

Michael omg I love spike tv!! I can never remember what channel it's on though, so I have to stumble on it by accident.

Sparty warty, whose line!!! I loooove that show, especially Colin and Ryan hehehe.

Heroes has my heart.

Lost had my heart for a while, but, I dunno, it just kinda lost the Alice in Wonderland feeling, a little while ago.

I love Who's Line, though. It's awesome to see comedians improv like that. Very impressive.

And Dexter's lab! HAHA Hell yeah. It's been a long time since I've seen that, but it was always one of the best on Cartoon Network. That mock-German accent is hilarious.

*Petition to bring back 90s Nickelodeon!*

I am addicted to Heroes. I mean, I bought a freaking sword from the show!

I used to be addicted to 24, until they put it at the same time as Heroes. I still love it, though. Jack Bauer > you. As for other shows, I'm addicted to Naruto and Bleach. I'm almost finished with Trigun.

I also work in the evenings and there are some channels I don't have, so I end up watching most/all of my shows on the computer. It's okay, but it always has better quality on the TV. Meh.

Hmmm, Lets see here:
================
*SG-1 (still only on season 6... don't ask)
*X-files (Sad that its over)
*Scrubs (still waiting for season 6 down here damit!)
*IT Crowd (only two seasons so far but loving it)
*The Simpsons (why has no one mentioned this yet?)
*Stark Raving Mad (at least it would've been if they hadn't bloody cancelled it)

And next month DSTV gets an anime channel so heavens knows how that will affect my TV addiction.

Mes Tarrant

Faja, you like lost? Really? Never would have guessed.... :P

O, hahahaha, so that was a German accent?? Whodda thought.

Emerald, IT Crowd, YES!!!! :D And I think no one's mentioned the simpsons simply because it's like ALWAYS on. It's something you watch when your favorite show isn't on.

Adam

Okay here goes:

- Lost
- Scrubs
- Heroes (Started watching this weekend, upto episode 17!!!)
- Simpsons
- Southpark
- Peep Show

On a side note Spongebob Squarepants is AWESOME :D

I think thats about it, they are all just DVD watching or re-runs as really don't have the time to get addicted to scheduled TV programs.

Heroes = the greatest show on television, as of now. :)

And it's on NBC, monday nights at 9:00 EST.

....and Spongebob is the devil. I urge any parent not to let their kid get hooked on that shit. I know parents used to say that "tv rots your brain," back when we were all kids, but now, it's actually true.

To adults, it's just funny, but that's because we are old enough not to let something that influential turn is into mindless idiots.

Haha one of my friends looks like that (well not yellow or square or spongy but just the eyes and look and the way he talks sometimes) and whenever he says something bad we call him gay, and he probably is.

Here's my list:

- HEROES (Incidentally, Mes, don't start watching on NBC now, cos they're 4 episodes into the 2nd season, you won't know what's going on. Watch them on tvlinks like Adam said or do a search on ovguide.com) It is the best series I've ever seen, although Lost was quite good until tvlinks's links for that stopped working :(

- That's it.

I did watch the odd episode of the apprentice, and I'm addicted to Match of the Day, if you can call that a series :P (football highlights from the week)

Oh, I did watch all of Friends on video that I borrowed from a friend.

To be honest, I really don't watch a lot of TV, I don't know why..

Yeah, the original draft for the show was for it to be targeted at homosexuals, but it got changed when they realized that wasn't exactly "PC". Unfortunately, Spongebob himself kept the originally intended personality. So while it's not exactly blatantly advertised, yes, Spongebob is intentionally gay. And sometimes they'll slip in some - pretty subtle but obvious if you're looking for it - innuendo, most of which flies over kids' heads, but not all. It's been awhile since I bothered to watch it, so I can't remember anything specific, but watch for it next time you see it. I can't argue that the show is funny, but I certainly wouldn't let my kids watch it.

Yes! I love that and it's British counter-part (by the same name). Ryan Stiles is on both series.

There's not many I really go out of my way for these days. Mostly just older stuff like I love The King of Queens, Friends. I used to love the arrogant humor of Archie Bunker in All in the Family.

One show that I miss sooooo much (damn you, Shrek for ruining it by taking Eddie Murphy away from the project) was The PJs. If any of you have never seen the series (and I'm guessing probably none of you have), it only ran for one season but it was the funniest, awesomest claymation (probably puppeteering) show you'll ever see. Pot jokes abound, clever wit and humor make it literally the best thing since sliced bread.

I wish so much they'd release it on DVD. Damn, why won't they? It's a good thing I had the foresight to record the entire series on VHS but some of the episodes were with very poor antenna reception. I didn't have cable at the time. Damn you people, release it on DVD. I've been begging for, what? 10 years now? Damn it.

And finally, one show that I expected to be really stupid but that turned out to be pretty "special and heart-warming" was Stan Lee's Who wants to be a Superhero. I usually hate reality shows but that one was actually pretty cool. I've been waiting for season 2 and for the TV movie they promised but...

Oh, and Mythbusters, How'd They do That, and NINJA WARRIOR. Hell yeah, Ninja Warrior is cool. I had a dream about winning Ninja Warrior just last night :D

Dammit, and X-Play. Mmmmmm... Morgan Webb :dreaming:

Yeah those photos are amazing, they're the best part of the whole show. It's great how you can take someone who looks like a scarecrow and make her up and plaster her face on the cover of a magazine. There's one model from this season that I'm thinking of in particular.. I don't remember her name.. but she's the only one with long brown hair.. you know who I'm talking about?

That would be Heather. She has Aspergers Syndrome, which is a form of autism. So I think it's really cool that she's on the show. My favorite photographers on the show are Tracy Bayne, George Holz and Andrew Eccles. Holz and Eccles do mainly celebrities, so their websites are amazing! Oh, and Nigel Barker is my husband... once I make him divorce his wife.... :drools:

WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT AHHHHHH HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE NIGEL=HOTNESSSSSSSSSS

and so far her having autism, well a form of it, is just affecting how she interacts with her roomates. its making her a stronger person because she's not letting it interfere with her modeling. so i think it's amazing. there was one point where she was really upset and crying because they were talking about her behind her back. but she still did really well on her shoot.

Same here! I always got mad, though, when those kids had trouble putting together the puzzle in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.... It's 3 freaking pieces! One of my Boss' Nephews was on that show about 13-15 years ago. I was watching Nickelodeon GAS (Games and Sports) one weekend day and saw a kid I recognised. "Hey, that looks like a younger version of T." I asked the next day and my friend/boss said he didn't know anything about it. So I asked his Sister if her Son, T, was ever on that show and she got all excited, saying "They're still airing that episode?!"

I thought that was pretty cool.

Bwahahaha... how is that Disney "twisting and corrupting" the stories though if the originals were already so evil? :P

Anyway, according to whom is the little red riding hood a sexual reference? I wonder if all these things are just interpretations to make the story more interesting. Like Alice in Wonderland. It's more interesting if she's on drugs or whatever.

I meant corrupting (i.e. censoring) the original subject matter.

The little red riding hood does make a lot of sense from a sexual point of view... I mean come on, "little girl", "big bad wolf" :P.

Grey's Anatomy rules my world. I rented the entire first season last year and watched it in about five days. I don't think I've cried so much in my life. Plus I was RIGHT in the middle of a breakup, so that probably didn't help matters either. It was a week of drinking wine and crying and pj's. It was awesome. There was one episode that was a 2 parter and Christina Ricci starred in it....oh my god. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thought I was gonna barf because I was so nervous. It was sooooooo good.

And Lost is another favourite. I am living for the next season to start, in January I think. My ex and I rented all the seasons and basically stopped existing for two months. We locked ourselves in at home and did nothing but watch Lost. It's so good.

And I love The Office, ANTM (duh - I'm a girl).

I watch Heroes but I've actually been pretty annoyed the entire time I've watched it. The first season ended up being cool, but now this season is off to such a slow start it's just...bleh. My boyfriend and I just keep watching it because we've watched so much, so we keep hoping that it'll get better, but meh. I have more bad things to say about it than good. I guess I just like the concept behind the show. I just wish that some of the acting would improve, and that they'd drop a few of the story lines. I think if there isn't a huge improvement soon, we'll probably stop watching.

Aaannnddd.....the OC. Can't help it. It's not even a really great show or anything, but I just have to watch it. I can't stop. I'm in the middle of the 3rd or 4th season right now.

I can't believe I forgot Peep Show.

While I'm at it, Lead Balloon is reasonable. At first I thought it was just Jack Dee ripping Extras (a show I love almost as much as the Office - Ricky Gervais is a comedic genius) but the second series has really grown on me.
Also, I suppose, 8 Out of 10 Cats. Anything with Jimmy Carr in is fine by me, the man's comic delivery is sublime. He can tell absolutely appaling jokes and they still come out sounding racy, witty and hilarious.
Oh, and QI. Though not so much nowadays. Best episodes are the ones with Sean Locke and Jimmy Carr, worst are any that feature Joe Brand (who has lost comic appeal, unfortunately :P).

I...I watch too much television. :(
